CW was born in NC.
I've read both Oklahoma and North Carolina, strangely enough, in various reports. @Serena Angelique
The writer of the "book" (as @MassGuy calls it!) says he was born in Oklahoma and moved to North Carolina, and some of the UK MSM papers also went with Oklahoma early on.

"Chris Watts, from Oklahoma, is accused of throttling his daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, before hiding their bodies along with that of their mum Shanann in oil tanks."
Pregnant wife took sinister pic days before she was 'killed by husband'

But this Oklahoma news station says: "Chris Lee Watts was born and raised in North Carolina, according to public records."

So I don't know for sure. @PommyMommy do you have a definitive source?!

I know it. And you know, so many of us here have said we hope she didn't see him kill those babies or we hope she didn't see her babies dead. But, I also hope those precious little girls didn't witness their daddy kill their mommy. It's horrifying to think about any which way you look at it. :(
MOO
Yes, I keep thinking about that too. I also had a horrible thought that maybe one of the girls witnessed CW murdering her sister. I hope not. I hope to goodness they didn't suffer for too long and that they were not still alive before being dumped in crude oil. I can't type "dad" anymore. No "dad" deserves to be called a dad after what CW did.

I mean, it is not- I want a divorce/ I am done with you/
I am leaving forever/ I have another woman/ etc

It was 'separation was discussed' in an emotional conversation. Heck... that isn't even being described as a fight/argument.

Why in the world would she kill the girls... when there is the possibility at least of getting back together?

Could you link the source please? I want to match the time of events and light source to his confession and if viewed from moniter or phone
And numerous people have stated that people do not go blue. They may get circumoral cyanosis which is a blue tinge around the lips and mouth, which would not be visible on a baby monitor.

Thinking it over... has there EVER been a case where the woman immediately kills her child/children just after a 'separation' was MENTIONED?
I think there has been, but not without a lot of screaming, pleading and calling of 911.

I can't think of any cases where the father sees this happen, then kills the mother and his only remaining offspring (that we know of) and then hides all the bodies. Except of course the cases where all of that turned out to be big fat lies.

So imo “he’ll hath no fury like a woman scorned” still could deem equal as a motive to a few thousand a month to a man that imo was in a relationship and could have moved in and shared expenses with AP or got a small efficiency apt instead of spending his life in jail
In my opinion that saying from a mythological fable, has been proven wrong again and again because men murder their partners, wives and families time and time again.
And you suppose that the AP would want to move in with him. That is an assumption on your part unless you have knowledge that we don't.

So if SW killed the children for revenge against CW asking for a divorce or telling her he loves someone else or finding out about an affair, then she was obviously very angry. If she was that angry, it seems she would probably be screaming and yelling and being very loud. Wouldn't that have woken up the girls? Wouldn't it be possible at least one of the girls would hear that and come into the room or even cried for Mommy or Daddy from their beds?

Or are we supposed to believe she was calm while talking to him and he goes downstairs and she calmly and quietly just walks into the kids rooms and kills them? And if she killed them (for revenge or because she was a bad mother or whatever other silly reason) what was going to be her next step? Kill CW? Kill herself? If she just killed her children in an "I'll show him" way , which would be premeditation, then what?

Not to mention if what the VI says is true about CW telling SW he wanted a separation many times or the story about SW's mom's coworker saying they were separating, then it obviously wouldn't have been a big shocker with this "emotional conversation". No matter which side of the family you believe, it wasn't new information so why would she just decide that night after a long trip and flight at 4am to then kill her children because of this separation. Common sense tells me no way any of this happened.

You seem to start with a baseline premise of assuming the thing negated by Occam's Razor (assume the most obvious answer first). I am honestly confused by this. It takes so much mental gymnastics to go along with CW's (last, after changing his tale several times) version of events. Are you hoping to start with the assumption that his tale is truthful? I get that in trial CW is innocent until proven guilty, but SW is also accorded that presumption -- and she is not on trial, and will not be, because she is inarguably a murder victim. I ask respectfully, why do you WANT to believe a confessed murderer's account in which his defense is to blame his murder victim? I feel no compunction to do so. I will go with the logic of lights out in a bedroom where a child is sleeping until someone proves to me they were on. I don't need to prove they were off. It's simply logical.

Great post!

It seems pretty clear that he stood there on the porch of his home the day after he alleges he saw his wife strangle his kids to death, and he transported them for miles and disposed of their bodies, and lied through his teeth about when he last saw them and not knowing where they were, not because he has some compulsive lying issue - which everyone who knew him would've known - but because he was trying to conceal their murders and his part in it.

Not one person who knew him discussed a compulsion to lie. Compulsive liars aren't stealth. Everyone who knows them catches them in their lies because they do it so often and it's so ridiculous.

I feel one needs to stretch super hard to find any reason for his guilty behavior the day after the murders other than what IMO is the obvious - he was trying to cover up what had happened.

Hm. I am not looking for a reason. I think his reason was he wanted freedom. No kids, no debt.

What I am wondering is about him. What was he like? Did he lie all of the time?

I see a very prominent liar who is in the news daily and people believe the lies or dismiss them. Is that what CW was like and people dismissed them or was he a swell guy like the friend said—-( the man who had the birthday party.)

They are professionals so they have to go by the demands of their professions.

If we could not discuss what we see in CW, what would the conversation be? Over and over that he is a monster?

I want to hear a out his life. What was he like?

As a teacher, I cared about my students . It is sad if I hear about their drug issues or even some who have died of heroin od. So far, no murderers but a couple of rapists.

I wonder what it is in children’s lives that impacted them . Why some make it, though not without issues that cause pain.

There is no way that he did not have things in his background that are red flags
Yes, I agree. My point was to the videos of the victim that have been cherry-picked and used to paint a picture that she is the monster.

I wish we knew more about CW's earlier life as well. We've had a few drips and dribbles such as NASCAR training school, shop class, etc. but not much interpersonal information.

I don’t think he exhibited signs of being a compulsive liar any more than he exhibited signs of violence. If he’d been lying all his life you think he’d be better at it. No — either he had latent tendancies he supressed for years or something happened and he snapped. Wonder if the AP gave him an ultimatum. I do think he killed the kids when he snapped — do NOT think SW hurt them one bit.

Compulsive liars lie. Their lies are not good. They often are ludicrous but no one challenges them. You never heard him talking about anything and wondered if it was true?

I sure don't. I've seen both as well.

It's the mantra now. No death penalty. Let them live out their lives in prison. Have any of you seen the privileges and all the perks these lifers get in prison? It's a reward for a lot of them. The ONLY thing they fear is their own mortality. Those who commit murders as atrocious as this have no conscience, so it is no deterrent to give them LIFE when they gave their victims DEATH. Another well known "untruth" is that it is "cheaper" to keep them for 50-60 years in prison than it is to give them the death penalty. The prison system gets paid per prisoner to keep them alive. I have two "retired" relatives who worked for years in the prison system. Most prisoners eventually lead a rather acceptable life in prison. No work, free everything. There are exceptions, but it's rare. Watch some yt videos of what really goes on behind prison doors, it will appall you. It sure did me. MOO, JMO.

Years ago, for some reason I saw a documentary on Richard Specht who killed the nurses in Chicago. I could not finish watching it. It was beyond disgusting. It looked like he had an operation to have breasts, That could not be possible could it? This was years ago.

And he was dealing out some stuff with some kind of money thing. Maybe cigarettes. It looked like he was having a great time.

I go with, “ If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.” But even Robert Blake appaently did the crime.

Me, I could not tolerate being caged.

What money no alimony was guaranteed or proven yet and freedom would be divorce. He was all ready in a relationship. And if he was leaving her for another woman what do you think her reaction would be? IMO anger and revenge is is also a great motive
But what evidence do we have that she was angry or wanted revenge? The people who stated she talked about separation did not indicate that she was angry. Instead it seemed as if she was coming to terms with it if she was willing to discuss it in the first place. If they were to get a divorce, I think he would have known full well he would have lost the house and would have to leave the life he was used to. He would have been burdened for at least 18 years with child support. Three children would be quite a bit, although I don't know what the percentage is in Colorado. I would think it would be at least 600 a month, which is what his car payment was said to be. That would be a huge weight unless he thought there would be another women by his side, who had a high paying job and some money behind her. Even then maybe he thought it would be much easier to just eliminate the whole problem. That seems a pretty good motive to me, rather than a women who by all accounts was a successful, motivated person who loved her children. She seemed the more active, concerned parent, while he was more passive one who let her take the lead. Maybe it was he who was resentful. There were signs that he was distant and detached weeks before the murder. Yet no one has mentioned any history of resentment or that she was in any way vengeful. What signs or evidence is there that she could have been in any way capable of murdering her children? We have plenty that points to him, but what is there of her? After all this time I still have not seen a realistic explanation for this scenario. Jmo
