Thank you for clarifying this point. I do think it's a bit of stretch (though I didn't watch the show to hear her comments) to assume because he took out the payroll-deduction policies on his dependents he must've been thinking about cashing in.

I didn't see this show, either, but my thoughts are his employer provided an employer- paid life insurance benefit on his life and then offered voluntary life insurance coverage (which would have been a lower benefit) for his spouse and child and the voluntary coverage was paid through payroll deduction.

The insurance company providing the benefits on the group life policy, whoever that insurance company is, has underwriting rules in place to protect them from becoming an unwitting party to pre-meditated murder. They would have required that there was life insurance in place on his life.

If they did not have underwriting rules that required life insurance on his life, then the insurance company may end up facing an ugly lawsuit.

I feel like from everything I've seen and read SW was happy and loved her husband. It is one thing to suspect an affair and quite another to have it realized as fact. She may have had some doubts about their relationship, but I don't feel like she went home that night and told him she was leaving him. For one thing, I'm sure she was tired and NU said she had not been feeling well. That doesn't seem like a great time to start that kind of conversation. Whatever went down that night, I think it was him who started it and not her.

I agree. I imagine her wanting to peek in on her babies and go to bed. (I think her babies weren't there though.) If you think about it, it would be easier to deal with the kids when the wife isn't around. And then deal with her when the kids are no longer around. Otherwise....idk, the way he says it went down doesn't make a lick of sense.

I am so sorry for your loss. My friend lost her 16-year-old son just over a month ago. It was not unexpected; he'd been in decline for years from a heart issue and DMD and was under hospice care for final three weeks. Since he passed, she has described the waves/rushes of emotion that overtake her when she least expects it. Peace.

Thank you. I feel so bad for the families. Those first couple of months you're mostly running on adrenaline. You keep yourself busy and occupied by planning the funeral, preparing for guests, filling out paperwork, etc. You're raw, but you're basically functioning. There are lots of people around to help out. Six months later, around about the time everyone else is getting back to THEIR lives, the other shoe drops and the REAL grief settles in. The kind that makes you not want to get out of bed in the morning. The kind that squeezes your heart every time you walk into a store or restaurant that you often visited with the deceased. It's very isolating and lonely. Your emotions are no longer all over the place, you're actually feeling numb: no joy, no excitement, no hope. It's a bad place to be in. I do hope that the family has a good support system and can work together with each other through this. Her poor brother, especially. I recognize his anger and frustration. I actually held onto that anger myself for about a year. Anger was better than sadness; it motivated me and made me FEEL something, no matter how unhealthy it was. I don't even know these people but I am very concerned for them. :-(

If he regularly started his days at that work site, then the fact that he was at that location (as tracked by his cellphone) would not raise suspicion.
I think it might depending on the time he was there. The neighbor said he typically didn't leave that early for work. Which is why seeing the truck backed into the driveway and him leaving was odd.

I think that he had his phone. He would not have had time to go back and pick it up and we know he had it later that day at work.
No, I think he was stupid for disposing the bodies at his place of work, and giving out advice for how to do it the smart way. Rule 1. Leave your phone at home.

It was absolutely jaw dropping, that interview. I've been following true crime for a long long time. THAT was incredible. He may as well have been dancing a jig. Holding a sign.

I couldn't even finish watching the interview. It was repulsive.

Yes, mothers kill their children. No, I don't know Shanann personally. But if nothing else, that interview alone would make me dismiss CW's "version" of events completely and totally.

I am so very sorry for your loss. And I understand completely on so many levels. And I am also very concerned for the family. Breaks my heart. :( I am sending love and light and hugs to you and definitely to the family of this senseless tragedy.

Wait, that was acting? lmao. It definitely wasn't acting "so well" IMO. I knew he was guilty well before he confessed. He is an AWFUL liar. He won't be getting an oscar for that performance, instead he will be getting a boyfriend named bubba and an orange jumpsuit to parade around in his solitary cell for the rest of his life (which will hopefully be taken with the death penalty. Nervous giggle my tush, this man is a MONSTER. And a bad actor to boot. And PS just because your wife may or may not overspend is not a reason to murder her and your children. Just sayin'. MOO.
When I say "act" I mean...look it: He went to work and his wife's friend came about 5 hours later and called the police to say they were missing. At that time, pretending that he had nothing to do with it, maybe he wasn't completely panicked yet. They hadn't been gone that long and she does get around a lot. Plus, she supposedly said she was going to a friend's that day who may have picked them up. That's what I mean by being a good actor. Basically, just a man who thinks everyone is jumping to conclusions.

Also, if we all murdered our spouses for over-spending, we would all be single. I didn't say that murder was the answer. Obviously it is not. And I'm not a Chris Watts' supporter.

I have a question about the oil in the tanks. I read that the neighbors saw (or maybe it was on camera IDR) CW putting bags into his truck. If the kids were in the bags (sorry :( ), would evidence be preserved or would the oil eat through the bags?

Hi all, impossible to keep up with the (8?)threads and still keep my job. :(
Just wanted to ask (I apologize if already spoken about), If & when they plan on releasing the autopsy results?
Thank you all.
Keep sleuthing! :D

They have not given a specific date yet. The next court date is not until November, in the meantime you can check the link below for any updates, the coroners report should be uploaded here (to the link) when it is available....

NCIS agents vow to solve "unsolvable" cold case and restore a sailor's honor

Pete Hughes: What was key to us is we gotta be able to demonstrate to anybody and everybody, if he dumps that body -- in the oil tanks, where'd the body go?

And NCIS' forensic team had the answer.

Jim Grebas: Experts were able to explain the oil is so caustic, seawater, microorganisms, it'd simply -- just eat into the clothing, flesh.

Megan Rose: ...The corrosive effect would've essentially disintegrated Muns' body and it would have been flushed out to sea.

Pete Hughes: It was evidence that there was no evidence. …That was key, because what they were gonna say is, " show us the body...."

Thank you very much! Much appreciated!

Curious indeed. The co-worker may have been a fling, a one (or several) night stand. Why refer to the mistress as a girlfriend? To me, a girlfriend is more intimate as it implies a relationship.

This reminds me of a conversation we had in Mollie's thread over what time you consider to be "evening" and "late evening." LOL

It is interesting that you consider "girlfriend" more intimate, because I think just the opposite. No particular reason, just the word I'm used to using, I guess. I don't think it really matters much.

I have also wondered if it was just a fling. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the affidavit says, "A two day investigation revealed that Chris was actively involved in an affair with a co-worker..." The words "actively" and "affair" indicate that it was not just a fling, but an ongoing relationship.

He claimed to See NA on the doorbell, I assumed on the phone. We have a ring doorbell and I get motion alerts aswell as alerts from it ringing

That's another issue. So, he saw Nichole at the door and he spoke to her through the app. I wonder why he didn't make something up. He could have, right? Oh, so & so picked them up to go to the mall. Or, she wasn't feeling good so I am at the hospital with her now. We'll call you later. If his plan was to go home after work and clean up, he could have lied. Maybe all of that was part of the plan. He just didn't expect that he would confess.

Curious to know why you refer to the mistress as a girlfriend, instead of a mistress, as nobody else has used the word girlfriend yet? It implies a much more innocent circumstance than an affair. And you seem bent on championing CW’s innocence.
I keep seeing posts like these that don't seem to be responding to anyone. That's because I've put people on my Ignore list.

Let them do their thing, there's no point arguing, you're not going to change anyone or anything. DFTT.

I am new here, so I don't really know how to post so if I am doing it wrong I apologize... but I have been lurking for a while now...I have a lot to say about this case. Sorry in advance for the long post... I will start here where I knew he was guilty before he confessed...

It was the uncut video from Denver 7, Right around the 1 min marker the reporter asks him "what happened" look at the smirk on his face and the smile that is bubbling up in side of him. He appears to be unable to contain his happiness, almost as if he is gleeful and happy with himself for what he has done, which seems to be present through out this entire interview. He thinks its funny. He thinks he got away with it.

Then the 2 things the really stood out to me after around the 3:16 marker where he is talking about the girls and being with out them that night he repeats the statement "I needed that, I needed that" and then say something about having the house to himself. Who TF says that they "needed that" repeatedly when talking about his wife and daughters going missing??? (Someone who wanted them gone and someone who is guilty!!) You really "needed that" makes no sense why he would even say that!! Unless he was happy they were gone and was simply speaking the truth that he really "needed that" meaning he needed to kill them all so he could finally have peace and quiet and be alone!! I think he has hated them for a very long time and resented all of them and I think it felt good to him when he killed them. Look at his joy in all of this interview, he can hardly contain himself!!

Then after that telling statement(s) he is asked about Shanann and what happened when she came home and he slips and if you listen carefully he says "She barely let me..." and then catches himself and says "she barely made it into bed". She barely let you what Chris???!!! Barely let you touch her??? What did she barely let you do???? Did he rape her? What did Shanann barely let him do???

I am waiting for the forensic evidence to come out on this because it would not at all surprise me if he raped her. Charges can be added to the 9 he has now, and as this case progresses I have an awful feeling it is going to get worse before it gets better.

The wording of the motions from defense regarding evidence on the state of Colorado website, (yes I have read them all....) as well as the first court appearance he made on the 16th where defense requested that the DNA touch evidence be sealed was denied...why are they asking for this to be sealed and why are they asking for not only the necks and fingers to be checked but other areas of the girls that could not be mentioned specifically, IE their nether regions. Did he molest them? The excuse the defense attorney gave to seal the touch DNA was to eliminate public scrutiny...if they were strangled that’s already in the warrant-less arrest affidavit, which they knew was going to be unsealed that following Monday. The judge denied the motion so I will be interested to see those forensic testing results.

This man is utterly SICK. He needed to mention the "EMOTIONAL CONVERSATION" because that was going to be his excuse for her leaving him and taking the girls and “disappearing”. He did not at all expect NU to show up at the house and call the police for a wellness check, she messed up his entire plan. According to the arrest warrant, the cops had already found Shananns body before he confessed and they continue to interview him and gave him enough rope to hang himself with. When the interview tapes come out I’m sure we will see the unemotional, over confident, physocpath come out to play.

I have literally read every shred of details and watched every report regarding this case from day one. He is guilty as sin. If a husband walks in and sees his wife enraged killing his beloved babies, he would simply whack her in the head/subdue her and start to save the kids and call 911, even if he killed her why didn't he call 911??!!! Why lie again and again and again and again???!!!!

Why put those poor babies, HIS babies in those awful oil tanks and disrespect their hearts and souls that way!!! At least he buried his wife. HE KILLED THOSE KIDS. NO ONE ELSE!!

A MAN THAT WALKS IN ON HIS WIFE KILLING HIS BABIES, DOESN'T KILL HER AND AVOID CALLING 911 AND TRYING TO HELP HIS BABIES!! AN INNOCENT MAN DOESN'T PACK ALL THE BODIES IN HIS TRUCK AND DRIVE AN HOUR AND DUMP HIS OWN BELOVED BABIES (THAT HIS AWFUL WIFE KILLED) IN NASTY CRUDE OIL AND THEN GIVE HIS AWFUL MURDERESS WIFE A BURIAL AND NOT DEFILE HER BODY IN THE OIL TANKS THE WAY HE DID HIS LITTLE ONES. THEN LIE HIS TUSH OFF TO EVERYONE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM!! THIS CLOWN IS JUST TRYING TO AVOID THE DEATH PENALTY!!! HE IS NOT A GOOD LIAR. AND ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THIS NONSENSE HE IS SPEWING NEEDS TO HAVE THEIR HEADS CHECKED!! HE IS NOT EVEN SMART ENOUGH TO BE CONVINCING.

Outside of being a psychopath, he’s a moron. And he was moron enough that he though he could fool multiple LE agencies, the CBI & the FBI. This monster was delusional enough to think he could get away with this. To all of you folks out there that say this wasn’t premeditated, just read the complaint including the 5 charges of 1rst degree murder, the DA is a no BS guy and he would not have charged CW with murder in the 1st, 5 times ( one for each victim, then an additional 2 counts for the girls for being killed by a position of trust with them being under the age of 12). If the DA didn’t have the evidence to charge him for the girls not just 1 count of 1rst degree murder but 2 counts of 1rst degree murder, he would have charged him with manslaughter or 2nd murder if there was any evidence to support that Shanann killed her babies. You must remember that the DA is building their case as we speak and it’s a continuing investigation that is very dynamic and faceted, and we don’t have all the information yet, but to think or suggest the information that will be coming out will exonerate CW is absolutely absurd and simply preposterous.

Shannan was well aware of his infidelity and left HIM for 6 weeks!! Why would she be enraged with a separation??? She already separated from him, she was probably planning to leave him and moving back to NC with the girls which is why she was there in the first place. I really do not believe for one moment there was an “emotional conversation” about him leaving her when she got home at 1:48am. He was trying to sell that garbage story, during the initial stage of the investigation to add proof to the story he was trying to facilitate of her taking off with the girls and justify why they were missing. His whole plan went awry when NU showed up and got the police involved with the wellness check. Now he is just grasping at anything to try to get him out of this situation because clearly his brilliant scheme did not work.

I finally signed up on WS because there were 2 or 3 posters on here I wanted to IGNORE because they were really making me angry with this whole blame the victim crap and then the one saying how handsome CW is and that SW's baby wasn't his!! Who cares what this man looks like he is a MONSTER!! I literally wanted to cuss these people out!!

I was glad to see the Mods to step in like they have been and shut the disgusting victim shaming down!! It is clearly stated that this site is VICTIM FRIENDLY!!! It is one thing to be play "devils advocate" and another to be a jerk trying to get a rise out of people. This is a tragedy that CW ALONE created!!!

I am so thankful for that ignore button, no more having to yell at my computer!! I will continue to IGNORE anyone that is delusional enough to think this psychotic *advertiser censored**clown didn't kill those babies and blames SW for it. I'm all set with that garbage.

Anyway, I have all the links saved so if any of you need any resource info, I have all the interviews, the areal views of the site where they were found, the news reports, all the court docs, everything saved and I will be happy to share the links. I pretty much have every piece of information that is out there, when I say I have followed this closely, that is putting it mildly.

Sorry for this long post. It has been brewing in me since this has happened, it hits close to home... my family also had a tragedy that resulted in a double homicide by whom we thought was a loving husband and 12 years later we are all still searching for answers as the killer smugly rots away in jail, unfortunately he avoided the death penalty by lying his tush off just like CW and his smirk haunts me and reminds me of CW. And those dead & empty eyes...the whole thing...Its truly sick. Anyway... All of this is JMO. My heart goes out to all of the families involved. Everyday they are in my prayers.

Welcome, Juniper Peony. You hit the nail on the head.
I have a feeling we are going to be shocked by what we hear if this goes to trial. :-O
