Someone previously mentioned the television show about the little girl with schizophrenia. I think it was called, Born Schizophrenic-The Story of Janny. It was an excellent program and very accurate. (I cried for the parents when their young son also began to show signs that he was hallucinating.)

When I saw that show I sobbed like an infant. I have a five year old that often acts out because in his words, "The other kids in his head that no one else can hear" tell him to.

I feel for her parents, and for her, as she did nothing to bring the condition on (not that any other schizophrenic does or asks for it).

Which is driving me totally insane for a few reasons. I already provided numerous links earlier about false arguments blaming video games & violence.

The thorn in my side for this particular article and others is the only thing I've read in several pieces is "it has been said that he played"... WHO said???

Until (IF) they can identify the person who observed it first hand and can provide an indisputable link between his actions & video games I'm chalking this up to another fantasy rumor that remarkably resembles a pitchfork looking for something to blame (video games).

No disrespect but have these scientific studies been conducted on males with conduct disorders, schizophreniform, schizotypal, manic-depression, autistic, asperger's, etc.....? Or have they (and this is what I assume) been done on mentally healthy people that can differentiate between reality and fiction? I have read scientific research studies on healthy individuals regarding the classic "Bobo Doll" experiment and it showed violent behaviour occurs if one views others doing violence. Anyone else in the Mental Health/Psychiatric vocation that wants to comment about the "Bobo Doll" research?

Unless of course the reason he could/should not be left alone was due to feel pain due to congenital analgesia and/or Aspergers... not because he was violent.

I am thinking maybe Mom didn't think he was violent. She didn't have a clue. jmo

BBM This hurts because it is so true and I am guilty of this. I can not name one victim of the Columbine shooting. The names of the murderers (won't say their names) have been ingrained into my brain. I would recognize them right away.

I also agree with this whole post and I personally am going to work harder to remember the victims of these crimes and not give the killers the attention they so crave.

I agree with your entire post. I am guilty of not remembering also. This makes me SO sad. I am going to do my best not to add to this monsters notoriety. Instead, I am going to do something (in my own small way) to remember the victims.

I also read that NL was shot in her bed with the rifle, is that true?

Hard to know for certain considering how the reporting's been, but the Hartford Courant reported this:

During a search of Lanza's mother's home, police found her body in her bed. She had been shot twice in the head. Authorities have not determined the time between when Adam Lanza killed his mother and left for Sandy Hook Elementary.

During the ME presser, he noted that they will autopsy the mother tomorrow (Sunday.)

Seeing how the shooter was 20, he may have made a choice not to have a relationship with his father; we just don't know.

she is darling! sweet eyes and pretty smile. I love how children always have the right hair color to go w/ their skin

then we get older and (some of us) make unflattering hair color mistakes, ranging from uh oh to just plain wrong!

but children always look at home in their skin w/ just the right hair color. I smiled when I saw that she has a purple name to go w/ her red hair

Her middle name is my youngest daughters name. One of the 6 year old victims shares a birthday with my son. This hurts on so many levels. The pictures make it hurt more, but I need to see these little angels like so many others did, so that I can remember them happy, vibrant, and alive.

I understand, but this was a family??? Maybe not. Just can't imagine totally being abandoned father and brother. jmo
Something very scary or very unpleasant likely happened to cause this. It is possible that dad initially moved out because his presence made the behaviors escalate in his son.

This article provides new information on what happened inside. Not sure how accurate it is but I tend to always think the local newspapers are more accurate than the MSM. They have more contacts and trusted connections. I'm biased though, since I started my career as a small town newspaper reporter.

Warning: The description is unsettling.

What does this article help in any way?

Some of the surviving children are have a very difficult time dealing. How can they? One family posted a note on their door not to ring the doorbell. When the doorbell rings their son thinks it is the bad man.

This is heartbreaking. What a horrific way to live.Last year I saw a show about childhood schizophrenia, wish I remember more about it,but I believe there is a treatment facility somewhere here in the US that is having alot of success. Does anyone else remember seeing this show. Could have been like on 20/20.

Childhood schizophrenia is very rare. It appears to me this guy had enough issues without having schizophrenia.

What does this article help in any way?

It gives us a little better idea of the actions/thought process of the monster. MOO. I understand some feel it doesn't matter. I feel the opposite. Insert additional MOO.

One thing I do not understand is why Nl's husband or son have not expressed any remorse for what happened to her. That is his x wife and is RL's mother. Am I the only one that thinks that is strange. If this is off limits just delete my post. But I think there should be some sadness for the loss of a mother. jmo

I would have to think that they are in shock right now.

From the Daily Mail:

"Little Olivia Engel, was killed on Friday - a day that began with excitement as the six-year-old looked forward to making a gingerbread house after school."

My God, this broke my heart.

I am way way way behind in reading, but I wanted to share this. Two of the little girls, who's names are listed one after the other in the list, have the same birthdays as my best friend from school, and myself. They were the same exact days apart in age as my friend and I, according to their birth years.

RIP sweet girls, boys and ladies. :rose:

It seems to me the mother was just kind of deserted as far as taking care of the younger brother. Seems they all just went away and said okay mom you deal with it. I don't know that for sure just an observation. jmo

The father may well have spent most of the years of his marriage trying to get his son the mental health care he needed and the mother may have blocked that. It happens all the time.

He may have been ASKED to leave the marriage, in fact, I believe I read language to that effect in that he did not WANT the divorce. Maybe he was asked to leave so that the mother could continue to live in denial of her son's problems. H may have insisted on paying more than required in child support in the hopes that his exwife might someday relent and use that money to get adequate help for their son.

I only wish she had.

I didn't see your links as I'm just joining the thread.

But really, I don't care what the studies say. Because the combination of violence, *advertiser censored*, brutality etc.........WITH A MENTALLY UNSTABLE PERSON is different than your everyday 'average' person.........at minimum.

I'm not blaming video games either. I'm pointing out a piece of the puzzle.

There is no ONE thing to blame. It's many things.

Ugh! All of this makes me so angry. I feel anger at the mom, really, how can you let that go on under your roof?! I know I shouldn't judge.... but a mentally ill and volatile person should not be allowed to play violent video games and sit on the computer all day every day... he should have been institutionalized. I wonder if that is one of the reasons they got a divorce. So. angry.

BBM - I've wondered if plans to hospitalize AL may have been in the works and may have been a stressor/trigger to this whole ugly mess. JMO

No offense taken. I think most of us a very angry that this ever occurred.
