Did Nancy Lanz live in fear? Why many mothers of the mentally ill do.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...47e322-4aca-11e2-a6a6-aabac85e8036_story.html

By 2010 the number of public psychiatric beds in the United States had dropped to levels last seen in the 1850s — about 14 per 100,000 people. Since 1955, the peak of psychiatric hospitalization, 95 percent of the nation’s public hospital beds for people with acute and chronic severe mental illness have been eliminated.

We don’t know whether Axxx had a mental problem, but other major symptoms of serious illnesses include a lack of self-awareness, a loss of empathy and the emergence of dissociation, or the cutting off of emotions — three characteristics that friends and neighbors have used to describe Axxx.

Here is the Chicago Sun Times article and six and a half minute Raw Audio posted last Saturday December 15th.

Suspect’s aunt: ‘Why would anybody do this?’
BY LAUREN FITZPATRICK Staff Reporter lfitzpatrick@suntimes.com December 15, 2012 12:58PM

Unless I have completely overlooked it, there is nothing in the article nor on the Raw Audio that says anything nor infers anything about survivalist stuff.

i.b.nora thank you so much for finding this.(when Iwas searching earlier, each time I find the raw audio, I kept hitting the Sun Times pay wall; appreciate you finding a useable link)

The article is ambiguous as to who hosted the games. It could be read that the person interviewed hosted the games or NL hosted the games. It is definitely not clear at all.

What I found most peculiar about the LAN parties is how could the shooter who seemingly was "into" computers (based on the detailed LAN parties descriptions & yearbook photo) have absolutely zero online presence...

He may have had an online presence, but didn't use his real name and used multiple online names.

Thanks for sharing this wfgodot.

This is the second article that I've read mentioning that Nancy " was from gun culture" and that guns were part of "her upbringing."

I highlight this because, if accurate, it dispels the notion that Nancy recently got into guns and makes an examination of Peter Lanza's potential gun ownership as well as any gun-related family activities that they may have enjoyed while Peter and Nancy were married. Potentially the family owned firearms that may have been in Peter's name and Nancy might have had a license.

I highlight this because since Peter Lanza has been given a pass by the media and Nancy has been portrayed as becoming a gun person since the separation/divorce we don't know the facts of the role of firearms in the life of the Lanza family.

<<The basement of the Lanza home was fully carpeted and had artwork, including a picture of a horse, on the walls. There was a computer, a flat-screen television, couches and an elaborate setup for video games. Nancy Lanza kept her guns in what appeared to be a secure case in another part of the basement, Ford said.<<

So i guess the reporting about the basement being covered in posters of guns and the shooter living in the basement are another of the countless examples of completely inaccurate reporting we continue to see in this tragedy...

Hey HastingsChi, you talked earlier about the father being left out of a lot of the reporting.

Have you found any possible answers to this yet?

:waitasec: Why does this mean he wasn't living in his mother's basement??? Carpeted, paintings on the walls, TV, computer, couches- he could've been sleeping on the couches.

He may have had an online presence, but didn't use his real name and used multiple online names.

Where did you read that he used multiple online names? What names did he use? None of the sites/boards that I check for such information have come up with nothing and they've been searching deep. The only thing I'm aware of was the 4 Chan posting that has since been debunked.

LinasK the house that the victim/mother of the shooter lived in is huge; not a smaller house where one would have to sleep on a couch due to lack of bedrooms.

Hi jellybeanz. Unfortunately I have not uncovered answers to help us understand why Peter Lanza is being omitted from reporting. It's quite odd...

That's irrelevant. Many immature young guys-computer geeks do live in their mother's basements rather than move out and get an apartment of their own. That way they have privacy, but don't have to pay rent and don't have to go far for food and to get their laundry done.

Notice that I posted that he MAY have had an internet presence.

I didn't read that he was using multiple screen names anywhere. This is just logical. Many people use multiple screen names when they don't want others to be able to easily find their internet activity by googling.

Since he wasn't very verbally communicative, he likely wasn't posting on forum or boards. He may have minimally posted on gamer sites.

Thanks for clarifying; yes you're correct in your logic. What I'm stating is that folks who have uncovered the most obscure user names and postings in countless cases have come up empty in their search for info on this shooter. And these folks are best in class when it comes to finding info.

Newtown schools superintendent Janet Robinson told The Associated Press on Friday that consolidating the first grade classes at Sandy Hook Elementary School is part of the process of preparing for the students' return Jan. 3 to a refurbished middle school in Monroe. She said most of the classes will remain intact, except the first grade where 20 students were killed. She said one of the three classes has a single remaining student.

Reading this made me very sad. :( Going to the kitchen now for some comfort food.

IMO AL didn't have much of an on-line persona. He played his games - I read somewhere yesterday that his game of choice was Call of Duty and that even though there was an X-Box in the basement - it had been hardly used. So that tells me he played Call of Duty online. He probably played for hours on end - I'm talking 8, 10, 12 hours in one stretch. Then he would stop - log off - eat, sleep - and then right back on to the game. I don't believe he "browsed the net" or read in any forums, newsights, etc. He might have researched or followed the Aurora shooter and shooting - but that's about it.

He was very smart. If he had put a keystroke recorder on his mother's computer - then when she was gone - he could check and see everything she had written, every site she had looked at, etc.

I'm wondering if with NL's mini-vaca from Tues thru Thurs - it could be that he had only just recently installed the recorder and this was his first chance at seeing just what dear ole mom was up to. He found that she had been looking at centers or facilities, and maybe even got emails of hers to some of these places.

That certainly would have set him off and he just laid in wait, seething and planning, raging - until she got home. Then he "let loose".

JMHO

Oh wow, I can't even imagine what that poor one student is going through. I wonder if they were out sick that day, or saw the horror. Either way OMG, I'd pull my kid for the remaining of the year. I can't imagine.

Could this possibly be the child that played dead?
