It’s confusing- it’s one ship, the Grand Princess, but 2 sets of passengers.
I think what confused me most is the article saying those 3 possibly exposed people had helped at the senior center in previous weeks, while I thought those exposed and possibly exposed had been on the cruise ship in the last 2-4 weeks. I'm glad the senior center closed for the time being and contact tracking is making headway.

My understanding is that a ship of infected people were evacuated, the ship docked at a new port and it was not cleaned properly before another 3000 people boarded the ship. Isn't that what happened, that the ship sailed and was called back to port because a guest on the previous cruise was deadly ill?

Another cruise with a COVID- 19 passenger

MSC Opera cruise in Greece in Temporary Quarantine due to a passenger testing positive

I think all cruises need to be grounded until we can get a grip on this virus.
Countries can’t be doing rescue missions to get these citizens back, then the emergency workers who are being exposed to the virus, and on and on it goes. Plus all the crew.
Just stop all cruises.

The 25-year-old, from Llandudno, North Wales, described how the illness progressed, going from feeling like a cold to seeing him end up in hospital.
On day seven of his experience, after a brief recovery from what he thought was a cold, Reed describes feeling like he has flu, writing: “The symptoms hit me this afternoon like a train and, unless there’s an overnight miracle, I will not be going to work tomorrow.”

He goes on to describe how the illness worsened, despite him fighting it with hot toddies, with the occasional day of feeling better.

On the 12th day, Reed writes: “I have never been this ill in my life” and says he felt like he was suffocating, prompting the decision to go to hospital where he was prescribed antibiotics for pneumonia.

'It hit me like a train': First Brit to contract coronavirus describes symptoms

After my son arrived in Australia, passing through 5 airports in late January - two weeks later he said that he'd never been so sick in his life. When I asked about it a week later, he said it's just allergies, then he said that everyone at work is sick. On the phone his cough is raspy and he's non-stop sniffling. He's 24 years old and has been sick for about a month. I teased that perhaps he's patient zero.

The phrase "never been so sick in my life" stands out.

Apparently, from what I’m reading, some passengers on the previous cruise (where the passenger later passed away) stayed on for a “back to back” cruise. So, they could possibly have the virus AND spread it to the most recent trips cruise.

Very careless, regardless of how it spread. This should not have happened. People should have known better.

i dont think it grows on trees its a small shrub type plant

but we have plenty of other trees with flowers that look like lavender that release crazy amount of pollen

bottle brushes and things like that

Thank you. Allergies to all those native plants can wreak havoc for newcomers! Either way, it sounds like Australia has good leadership, and that the virus can be contained over time in Australia. I'm actually thankful that my son is in such a safe socialistic environment.

Oh no...

One of my oldest friends is a nurse in Washington. One of the COVID19 patients was treated at a branch of her hospital (but not the branch where she works).

She’s not that worried and feels like this will abate in a couple months. I just talked to her today.

In a twist of bad irony my hubby and I saw 2 back to back commercials for Princess Cruises on ESPN tonight

We knew this was coming.

It’s a whole nother ballgame when it finally arrives.

I’ve been feeling for you guys in California, Washington, Oregon, ETC the past few days.

@gitana1 , how have you been doing the past few days? Are you going about your regularly scheduled activities, etc?

I appreciate hearing what everybody is doing, or not doing.

This reminds me, Dr. Nancy and Dr. Tedros have said (paraphrasing) this isn’t a one size shoe fits all. Responses and approaches may be different based on your area.

I’m not. I did some stockpiling and I am glued to this. I have to catch up on work. I’ve been staying at home and trying to get work down here which isn’t easy for me.

I have NOT looked at our retirement statements, and will not. That could do me in faster than perhaps contracting Covid19...

I have to say this site helped me early on to realise what was coming, deciding to get out of stocks, into bonds, then when bonds went down 2% we put it into cash. Thanks Websleuths!

I don't think that was the case with this particular ship? I thought at least one passenger on an earlier cruise ( Feb 1-15, something like that) contracted the virus somehow but wasn't DX'd until after he and his fellow passengers disembarked, and he ended up passing away. That ship was already on it's way home from the next cruise, but some of the passengers had stayed on, doing back to back cruises. It's those passengers who may have been exposed. I dunno- but it does certainly highlight the next to impossible job of tracing and containing the outbreaks :(
