New York State is implementing a statewide #Coronavirus testing protocol. There is an order of priority for testing, defined below (1 through 5):

''Three family members living in an upscale Los Angeles suburb — less than 10 miles from the posh homes of celebs such as Drake, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West — contracted the novel coronavirus, apparently during a ski trip to Italy, according to new reports.

Pam Angel told KCBS-TV that her husband and one of her adult sons are in self-quarantine, but her other son who has underlying health issues is being treated at a local hospital.

“He can’t talk without coughing,” Angel told the station. “He feels like he has a pallet of bricks on his chest, he’s not eating.”

The trio, who live in Tarzana, only about 10 miles from Calabasas — home to Kardashian and West, Drake, Will Smith and Katie Holmes — started feeling sick on a ski trip to Italy, Angel said.

Upon their return home, they tested positive at LAX.''

Thanks for posting this @Tbone144. I forgot if you said you started with the WHO guidelines for making hand sanitiser? The batch sizes based on WHO guidelines were large so Popular Science magazine scaled the recipe down for consumer use.

Here is the link to the PS article as it might help you and it also provides a link back to the WHO information which is also quite helpful.

I plan to mix up a couple of batches tomorrow using aloe vera gel based on the PS article and I will report back on how it goes. I was also going to play around with adding glycerin and vit e to cut down on the drying aspects of the alcohol.

WHO link:

That one is quite helpful as I have glycerin in the lab that I can play with, I can add 1% aloe gel so I can claim it in my formulation.

I like the WHO one better. Popular mechanics has the gel one which I don’t see listed in the WHO document. WHO has ethanol and Isopropyl formulations.

You can cover hard to clean things like keyboards and remote controls with Press and Seal Plastic wrap. Then you can keep that clean.
Yes, and good gracious, my TV remotes needed a good cleaning.

I found them pretty hard to clean well because they have those rubber buttons so close together that it was hard to clean them good around all the buttons.

Tip: Make sure your TV is off when cleaning the remotes or you may find your ordered a movie you didnt intend to order, or you may end up on an adult-only channel while your kids are in the room . :)

Hospital visitors swipe hand sanitiser

Hand sanitising gel is being stolen by visitors to a hospital on a daily basis as demand for the product grows amid the spread of coronavirus.

Bosses at Northampton General Hospital said sanitising gel had been disappearing from the ends of ward beds "every single day" this week.

Coronavirus latest news: Second UK death linked to disease as 163 test positive

What are people thinking taking hand sanitizer that is helping protect their loved ones? I think this is going to become a widespread problem.

Another death in CA, possibly due to coronavirus

Authorities in Santa Clara County on Thursday announced that a Sunnyvale man might be California’s second death connected to the coronavirus.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said a 72-year-old man who had been on a cruise where others contracted the coronavirus was found unresponsive Thursday at his home and officers performed CPR. He later died.

“It was later learned the patient had recently been on a cruise with two passengers were suspected of having COVID-19,” the agency said in a statement.

“We don’t yet know if the patient had COVID-19,” said Phan Ngo, chief of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The officers, who did not perform mouth to mouth resuscitation, were quarantined at home, he said.

UPDATE: There are now 33 confirmed cases of #Coronavirus in NYS — 11 new positive tests since yesterday.

All new cases are connected to the original New Rochelle case.

As we do more tests, the number of positive cases will rise, as we are seeing.

Re BBM

We have seen this so many times now where a cluster is tied to either one person or a certain place like the congregation in South Korea.

When its a single source like that, I wonder what is unique about the person spreading it to so many. Im wondering if in certain individuals, they become a main spreader because of something unique about that person's genes or something. Or is it that everyone gets it the same and can spread it the same as anyone else?

Maybe we are only hearing about these clusters because of the way the officials do better contact tracing when they have finally isolated a known cause of the sickness.

"Authorities described the outbreak as a "super-spreading event," as the lone woman transmitted the infection to an unusually high number of people,"

I spent an hour this morning talking to a relative who lives near California Ground 0. Unlike me, she keeps a clean house and is a frequent hand-washer. Unfortunately, her husband is much older, but fortunately, since she is fond of him, he is not minimizing the situation. Instead, once he identifies a problem, he tends to focus on what can be done to combat it, so that is a good thing. So, as a couple, they are working on protocols to control their exposure, while not totally destroying their quality of life.

We spent much of the hour discussing strategies and trading tips to minimize our exposure. I told her about the New York Times article about how to avoid touching your face and sent her the link.

How to Stop Touching Your Face

I am feeling less unsettled since we've done well on our own preparations. I have a fair amount of wipes but plan to stick to bleach water until/unless I get sick when the wipes will be handy. I am doing much better on handwashing, which is a handy habit at any age. I am also getting better about not touching my face when I am in public.

At this point, my main concern is my family of choice. I have three close friends in the "friends help you move, real friends help you move the body" sense. Two of them are older than me. Both have multiple companion animals. One still has two old horses that will need care if she can't provide it. My current goal is to stay healthy enough to help them if they get sick. And, of course, take care of my partner if he gets sick.

And folks, I just got back and found out that my post that directed people to the tornado thread was taken very badly. I can’t say I understand it, as I didn’t see the post I replied to attached to a longer conversation. I must have missed a few things. But I see posts like mine frequently on WS and they are usually meant well, so...

I have no idea what happened. But there are a lot of people hurting out there. A FB friend lost his cousin, cousin's spouse and baby in that tornado. :(

Researchers capture the first pictures showing 'the real appearance' of the new coronavirus using cutting-edge microscope technology

The images were captured in a lab in southern Chinaafter experts had used frozen electron microscope analysis technology to inactivate a strain of the virus.

'[
The technology] preserves the biological specimen or the virus to show its state of being when it was alive. It is the most authentic result.

I love people who take care of animals.

We are currently at an eye appt for my mom which is mandatory to prevent blindness. We were all screened coming in to the medical complex and again at the vitreo retinal specialist's office. Of course people can lie but I am pleased that they are doing this in Gainesville, FL. BTW, they are even screening for travel to cities, like Tampa, that currently have covid 19 cases. They show a map.

Cameroon confirms second case

Cameroon said Friday it has confirmed its first two cases of the novel coronavirus, a French national who arrived in the capital Yaounde in February and a Cameroonian who came in contact with him.

Cameroon is the first central African country to register a case of the deadly virus, and one of five sub-Saharan nations.
