I plan to continue to mask up in health care facilities or at a doctor's office. Yesterday I went to see my podiatrist- she told me she has several patients who have had Covid. She requires masking in her office. It is a small office with a small waiting room.
DH is donating blood this morning. He received an email earlier indicating that masks are not required at the facility.

Americans have two options for a new omicron-specific Covid booster shot: Pfizer or Moderna. Which one should you get?

The short answer: It mostly depends on what you’re eligible for.

Pfizer’s booster is cleared for anyone 12 and older, while Moderna’s booster is for people 18 and older. To get either one, you’ll need to be at least two months removed from completing a primary vaccine series or receiving any other Covid shot.

Beyond those eligibility guidelines, the new boosters aren’t that different from each other. Both shots are bivalent, meaning they target omicron’s BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants alongside the original Covid strain...

I think the flu will be a problem this year: in the past couple years because of the pandemic we were wearing masks: Not many people are wearing masks now so colds and the flu will be a problem ( in addition to continuing cases of Covid)

I agree. My brother is in public school this year (after being homeschooled for 5 years) and he’s already brought TWO colds home and the school year just started!

I managed to avoid the first cold, but I got hit with the second one and I hate it.

This is off topic but there was/is a member who was really active in this thread earlier when Covid was really rocking. She and her husband have a second home in Fort Meyers. They drive down from Michigan, I think (could be wrong) for winters. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I’ve thought about this member several times over the past couple of days, especially as pictures from the area are released.

Yes @MsArk it does ring a bell, but the only name I’m coming up with is ilovewings. But I don’t think that’s it. I remember that her husband did not take covid seriously. I hope she checks in. It’s possible she’s still in Michigan, of course, but her house might be damaged. I’ll keep thinking.

It's ilovewings who has posted on the hurricane forum. They don't know yet what the damage to their unit might be, but it's doubtful that they will go to FL this winter.

In the early days of Covid, staffers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sought to give Americans guidance about maintaining some semblance of normalcy during a once-in-a-century pandemic that had upended daily life.

One recommendation? Play basketball with your friends — online.

There was one big problem: The nation’s top public health professionals failed to consult their very colleagues who’d be responsible for communicating this advice to the public...

At least 7.6 million people have received an updated Covid booster since the start of September, according to data released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number represents around 3.6% of people currently eligible to receive the shots in the U.S.

The data does not include people who received updated Pfizer-BioNTech boosters in Idaho and Texas, the CDC said, so it is likely an underestimate.

The CDC signed off on updated versions of Pfizer’s and Moderna’s booster shots on Sept. 1, and pharmacies and other vaccination sites began administering the new shots around Labor Day weekend. The bivalent shots target both the original coronavirus strain and the currently circulating omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.

Dr. Scott Roberts, a Yale Medicine infectious disease specialist, said the relatively low booster uptake was "demoralizing."...

Thanks for replying @ilovewings. For once my memory was right even though I doubted it! :) I hope your condo is OK. This must be extremely stressful for you. Hugs!

Thanks for your kind thoughts----- it is stressful, but not nearly as stressful as it is for all those people in Fort Myers
Suffering from being homeless and hospitals without water and power

We just found out the status of our condominium -- There are 7 buildings- each building has 8 2-story units. We are told the first floor units are totally destroyed: Of the 7 buildings, some of them may have to be condemned. If restoration occurs, the first floor units will have to be torn down to the studs. We are told that our 2nd floor unit was pretty much spared--My husband's car is obviously a loss since it floated away somewhere, never to be seen again. The pictures of the area are just awful to look it- it is hard to believe. We are told there will not be power until at least Oct 9- Don't know about how long it will take to get water. We are just grateful we are not there, and our hearts break for all those people suffering. I imagine lots of people are still shell-shocked.
