How does massive testing, isolation, and follow up give people immunity?
It doesn't but it can snuff it out because herd immunity is achieved with those who do get it. In very simple terms, which its not because it's very complex, the virus thinks its run out of host because we begin isolating populations that have it.

Coronavirus live news: EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier tests positive
Thu 19 Mar 2020 12.41 GMT
Here is a summary of the latest global coronavirus news.
Iran has reported 149 more deaths from Covid-19 and more 1,000 new cases. Daily death tolls in Iran have started increasing by more than 100 since Tuesday, and continue to grow by larger increments every day.
  • The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, has tested positive for Covid-19. The diagnosed is expected to hold up already delayed trade talks between the EU and the UK.
  • The UK government has ruled out banning people from leaving or entering London. It also played down the prospect of shutting down the transport network in the capital, despite the closure of dozens of Underground stations.
  • The first deaths from the virus have been reported in Russia and Costa Rica. The first confirmed cases have been reported in Bermuda and Mauritius together with measures to block flights to those islands.
  • France appears poised to extend a two-week lockdown. Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said people ignoring the measures were “idiots”.
  • The number of confirmed cases in Germany has risen to 12,853, with the number of deaths reaching 34. Politicians, police and prominent figures appealed to Germans to ‘stay at home’, or risk the introduction of curfews as in France
  • China on reported no new cases of Covid-19 being acquired inside the country for the first time since the outbreak began. It recorded a rise in infections from abroad, but no new cases in Hubei province. The lockdown of Wuhan may be lifted once there are no new cases for 14 days, the state-backed China Daily reported.
  • New Zealand and Australia closed their borders to foreigners. The bans apply to all non-residents and non-citizens. New Zealand’s comes into effect on Thursday at midnight, Australia’s on Friday at 9pm.
  • Japan’s deputy prime minister has said that the Tokyo Olympics are “cursed”, as speculation mounts that the Games will have to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido has lifted its state of emergency, less than three weeks after its governor, Naomichi Suzuki, asked residents to remain indoors after a spike in the number of local cases of the virus.
  • Between 400 and 500 foreigners are stranded in Panama after a “tribal” festival and music event ended with many of them being quarantined at the concert site near the Caribbean beach of Playa Chiquita, an organiser said on Wednesday.

How does massive testing, isolation, and follow up give people immunity?
It doesn't give people immunity. It prevents those who don't have symptoms from spreading it around. There are people who don't have symptoms, but have the virus. If you could identify them and isolate them, they wouldn't be running around infecting others.
But in US we don't have enough tests for even symptomatic people, let alone asymptomatic.

UK....this is nuts

Paramedics attending people who could be infected with the coronavirus were told only one person in each team of two could wear a face mask, with the other instructed to stand two metres away from the patient if “clinically appropriate”.

That is beyond ridiculous, these are the very people who should should all be wearing masks. They're risking their lives just being at work.

Many people had the virus, never realizing their common cold really wasn’t so common, imo. I try to keep perspective—most will not require hospitalization, and we know there is no treatment for the virus itself.

99% of patients killed by coronavirus in Italy had existing illnesses, study finds

Research into 355 deaths found that only three of the victims, 0.8 per cent, had been clear of illnesses before they were infected.

Nearly half of them - 48.5 per cent - already had three or even more health conditions before they were diagnosed with Covid-19.

Some 76.1 per cent of the patients who died of Covid-19 had previously had problems with high arterial blood pressure, the study found.

More than a third - 35.5 per cent - had diabetes, while 33.0 per cent had suffered from ischemic heart disease.

Why do they think it’s about me? It’s a civic duty,” she says. “If I have a mask on, and if—touch wood—I’m infected, I could cut the chain off where I am. That could save a lot of people.”
Imagine considering civic duty in today's world.
Why Face Masks Are Encouraged in Asia, but Shunned in the U.S.
@time
US doesn't have enough masks. We don't even have enough for medical professionals, let alone the population. I never believed authorities when they claimed masks don't help, but the fact is, if you can't buy them, you can't wear them.

Great Dane therapy dog greets seniors through windows during coronavirus pandemic

Tonka the Great Dane cheers up senior center residents during coronavirus safety containment

Tonka, a Great Dane, is a certified therapy dog with The Dog Alliance in Cedar Park (Texas). He’s been doing therapy work for less than a year, and he and his handler make regular visits.

But in these tough times of no-touch and social distancing, the senior center facility unfortunately can’t accept visits for their residents, even from family and friends (and Tonka), due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Tonka and his trainer are closing the gap with increased outdoor visits. Leigh loves the interaction, even if it’s through a window.

“Can we visit? Certainly, it’s a safe space with a window as a barrier just walking around the outside,” Leigh said. “We’re so excited to be able to just make them smile today.”

Bloody Hell! Surgery masks have been nearly impossible to acquire in our veterinary practice, forcing us to reuse them. But, we are working on animals and willingly submit to the greater need of having face masks in the human medical system. But to leave emergency service providers without masks in such dangerous situations is criminal.
