NYC

NYC's syndromic surveillance is as close to real time as you can get. It shows recent sharp increases in: 1. emergency department visits and hospital admissions for influenza like illness; and 2. pneumonia admissions. Despite declines in flu isolates... https://t.co/0QTzCTbBWo Denis Nash on Twitter

GEORGIA....I feel his pain...

The entire Georgia legislature has been exposed and is self-isolating. Yet the Governor refuses to ban gatherings and close restaurants and bars!
Ga. lawmakers urged to self-quarantine after senator’s positive coronavirus test
I wonder how many of these leaders refuse to close bars and restaurants because they, themselves, are lushes and heavy drinkers?
A high ranking DC politician told me some years back that you can't spend much time
in DC unless you're an alcoholic.
And having spent some time there, observing,
I'd say he was right.

I’m totally with you. At the very least, the My Pillow guy could get this rolling in a day. He does all his manufacturing in giant MN warehouse, complete with a zillion sewing machines & sergers. He could cut up some of those Giza Dream Sheets & solve the shortage in a few days. There must be other companies like this- they’re not ALL in China! Moo
After 2008, practically ALL cloth type manufacturing moved to China, thanks to rapid costs declines in China and US business leaders chasing a dollar.

This, my friends, is the definition of exponential growth.

Coronavirus timeline:
- January 19: 100 cases
- January 24: 1,000 cases
- January 28: 5,000 cases
- February 12: 50,000 cases
- March 6: 100,000 cases
- March 14: 150,000 cases
- March 18: 200,000 cases
- March 19: 225,000 cases

Thank you Henry and others! You are a huge support for so many here and extended across our families and communities!

Several threads ago someone posted a similar graph/statistic that stated the odds of getting the virus in say January thru March- I have wanted to refer to that as the ODDs became huge and it was dramatic. Does any one have that or similar info?

And how do we protect those workers sitting side-by-side in a warehouse? Large manufacturing plants are shutting down out of fear their employees with contract the virus. Amazon now has concerns for their own employees and may need to shut down.

WOW, GREAT IDEA!!!!
Why don't you email them, and your governor,
and your news media and get the ball rolling.
This is how small ideas become super solutions. Thank You.

Twitter is removing tweets that promote fake coronavirus treatments like 'drinking bleach', conspiracy theories that claim it's 'propaganda for soap companies' and posts that deny scientific facts in major crackdown
Well, that's good. Because drinking bleach is really not a good idea. At least drinking normal alcohol won't kill you (in moderation).

Wired Magazine Just Published Info about how long COVID19 lasts on surfaces - quarantine your mail or spray with lysol and WEAR GLOVES - UP TO 24 Hrs on Cardboard:

WIRED on Instagram: “By now, let’s hope you’re safely ensconced at home—going a little stir-crazy, perhaps, but doing your part to “flatten the curve.” But…”
Also, IMO spray your garbage and recyclable containers/lids handles with bleach. And the mailbox lid. The poor workers have to touch every handle in your city. Wear gloves. I am bagging and lysoling the mail for 5 days.

MICHIGAN

Can Michigan hospitals handle expected surge in coronavirus cases?

Michigan's hospitals are bracing for a surge in coronavirus cases that experts caution would leave them crunched for space and supplies, and their staffs depleted.

Michigan has about 25,375 licensed beds across more than 100 hospitals, according to state records. But as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased to 110 on Wednesday, industry officials worried that health care facilities would have to take drastic measures to handle a surge in patients.

Hospitals say they can handle the demand now, but the worst-case scenario is "incredibly troubling," said Brian Peters, CEO of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.

If people don’t follow the protocols for washing their hands and keeping their social distance from others, “there’s a very real risk that the hospital system and the health care system, broadly speaking, could be overwhelmed," Peters said...

I haven’t posted on this thread before, and I’m not entirely sure what everyone’s feelings are about this.

Despite the Chinese misinformation, the silencing of doctors, and the burying of actual data, I’m pretty impressed by the world’s response to this.

I think anyone who knows anything about how China operates was well aware that this was likely to be far worse than initially reported. I don’t think anyone expected anything to this extent though.

The world was behind the 8 ball, and it responded in a big way.

Sports don’t get shut down, restaurants don’t get shut down, schools don’t get shut down, and life as we know it doesn’t stop like this. This is completely unprecedented, regardless of your age.

It’s not easy to make a decision that effectively upends the global economy.

The coming weeks and months will be telling, as we’ll have a deeper understanding of the trajectory here.

What’s frustrating is that if the Chinese government had just told the truth, this could have been nipped in the bud. What’s encouraging though, is that we’re seeing bold action all over the world.

Was hoping you’d show up!
