(CNN) — Refrigerated trailers to be used as makeshift morgues hummed outside two hospitals on Thursday as New York City deals with the surging death count in the epicenter of the nation’s coronavirus pandemic.

More on this / my post from yesterday:

Makeshift Morgue Built at NYC’s Bellevue Hospital Ahead of COVID-19 Surge

“Workers are building a makeshift morgue outside of a Manhattan hospital to deal with an anticipated surge of coronavirus victims in New York City in the coming weeks. Chilling photos from the construction site Wednesday showed rows of white tents being set up outside Bellevue Hospital.

The city medical examiner was building the makeshift morgue on the East Side in the face of mounting deaths, City Hall said. The measure, which has been used in the past during mass casualty events like 9/11, falls within the purview of the city emergency declaration that Mayor Bill de Blasio signed weeks ago, a spokesperson for the mayor's office said. Officials say they’re operating from a playbook developed to handle a surge in deaths from possible pandemic developed in 2008.”

NYC morgues near capacity, DHS briefing warns
Officials were told that morgues in the city are expected to reach capacity next week, per the briefing.

I tell my dh and friends all the time...”Google is your friend.” It always amazes me how many questions get asked that Google can answer. And yes, we own stock LOL...and I don’t really want to know how it’s doing. I could Google it, of course, but why bother at this point. :D

In this case, I don't think the data asked for actually exists - and it sure can't be found on regular google or twitter. MOO.

I don't care what Trump decides or even what the Governor of my state decides, I'm going to continue to stay at home and stay safe until I see how this all shakes out. I will give it at least 3 weeks and see how it goes. I have a very uneasy feeling about the next few months even though there is no Covid 19 in my county or even in the neighboring counties. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
You must live next door to me. I'm in the same position---no cases in my county or adjoining neighboring counties, but I'm staying home. For the people who don't want to stay home? PLEASE don't come to my city.
It's significant that during the Spanish flu in 1918, large numbers of people were killed in Alaska and several villages were entirely wiped out. One village that was not sick with the flu, posted armed guards at every trail in, to make sure no one came in, and they didn’t get the flu.

Are the race tracks with casinos closed? All large gathering places here were ordered closed weeks ago. Even our high school sports play-offs had attendance restricted.

most tracks with casinos are closed--Gulfstream has a casino which i understand is closed-Gulfstream track however is open for racing--in fact the Florida Derby will be
a go on Saturday without spectators-- it is a big Derby prep race although the
Kentucky Derby has been postponed until September-- if any other tracks are
open for racing, it will be without the public present

Today's California data:

State Officials Announce Latest COVID-19 Facts

Louisiana has 83 deaths. After only about 5 days of collecting data. California has 64. California has way more people than Louisiana and has been testing for 2 weeks.

I do not see how we're doing worse than Louisiana. Both states got more test kits yesterday, enabling total number of cases to fly higher. But let's be real and note the deaths, not just the positive cases.

Because the Iceland numbers show that about 40=50% of people already have CoVid19 even in...Iceland. Most are not symptomatic.

What makes you think they are not? My guess is they are probably just as accurate as ours are. Our numbers are only the tip of the iceberg.

What makes me think that is that I have friends and colleagues (American and Canadian) who are living and researching in China. Several are Chinese or Chinese-American and speak the language fluently. 1 is Chinese born and is giving updates (not for public consumption).

Russia is doing the same thing. And, well, our own system is deeply flawed as well - many counties in California refuse to test and many states have really been incredibly slow in starting. If you don't test, you don't have increases in cases.

I don't see it as 'insane.' This same drug has been used for years by people with auto immune disease. No one is declaring it is a dangerous or toxic drug in those cases. The patients are happy with it and rely upon it's benefits.

Both China and France have used it with the C Virus, with some beneficial results. So why not test it on those with severe cases, to see if it is effective? What will a severely ill patient have to lose if there is no other treatment available?

There are patients who swear that this drug saved their lives recently. Some have done interviews. I saw a doctor interviewed, who was using it last month with great results, according to him.

I don't see anything in the above article that makes it seem like a 'crazy' idea to offer it to those in dire situations. JMO

Besides WS, what are you watching to keep you sane? Movies, series, etc., Please tell.
I watch Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC at times......I am a glutton for punishment....LOL !.....I read yall when I am not doing my usual Trophy Husband work around the house, having to go look for something out in the town, playing with my adopted Autistic grandson, etc......... Right now, I am avoiding mowing my alley...........Stay safe, Chelly, and everyone else too.......:).....moo

Forgive me for asking, but who is Dr. Birks? Is he going by local numbers? Is he looking at places like Connecticut and New York/New Jersey?

Experts here in California (Stanford, UC San Francisco, UCLA, USC, UC Irvine) say that we're flattening the curve - but that we still have a massive storm ahead, with a predicted 2000 people dead in Santa Clara County alone.
