I assume you are being facetious.

In this thread we have discussed from the beginning what precautions we each take. Some take much more radical steps than I do when shopping, but I have never felt the need to reply as if it was overkill. Because I support each of us doing what makes us comfortable.

I miss the thread being more like it was in the beginning where we were simply supportive of each other when we discussed what kinds of changes we were making.

I didnt mean to quote that, but the poster before Trident. I've been away from the forum for too long. Yes, we should each do what we're comfortable with as long as it doesn't harm others. Also, those with pre-existing conditions need to be super careful when compared to people like me who are lucky to never have spent a day of her life in hospital.

wow. I am going to copy, paste and save this post @PommyMommy. When you visualize the numbers in these lists, it really does show how we are living in The Twilight Zone.

second observation: I really wish there was not sooo much stress and reporting on the chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine. It is really nothing more than one of the needles in this haystack. I hope some of these groups trying to research it will just expand to some of the other needles.

I feel the need to reply because the sun is still shining, the stars are still in the heavens and life is going on for all of us posting here. I guess more brightness, less negativity to everything would make everyone feel better, and there are many reasons to feel better.

Yeah, there are troubles, problems, warnings, but after a while I prefer to get out in the sunlight, which btw seems to be a help against this virus, or so I've heard.
I quoted your post by mistake. Very sorry. I meant to quote the person just before you.

I live in Manitoba, Canada (pop. 1,360,396 / largest city metropolitan pop. 737,000) ... and we have brought the spread of COVID-19 to what is almost a standstill within a month with just a couple, 1 or zero new cases per day over the past week. The 6 people who have died all had some pretty serious health problems before they caught the virus. Only essential services are open, strict distancing guidelines are being followed when we go out for groceries or to the bank, and I hear no clamouring to open anything yet. No fines have been handed out. We have a compliant population and those who don't have to go to work are self-isolating voluntarily.

Our health care workers and hospitals have been prepared for a surge, but that surge isn't happening, thanks to Manitobans who care about their neighbours and don't want to burden our health care system.

Of course, I realize it's much harder to stop this vicious virus in large cities like New York and Toronto . My point is if restrictions and compliance aren't in place, this virus will continue to spread rapidly and cause much more suffering and death. Take the smart route, not the "Let's get back to business now!" side.

Way to go Manitobans!

Yes Dixiegirl

This is like the "Third Rail" of the Coronavirus financial bills.

Of course it means taxes. So why do my taxes have to increase to pay the $20 million that Ruth Chris steakhouse chain got in the first stimulus package?

And the other fat cat companies, yet our own local stores and restauraunts got NOTHING at all.

I knew the original Ruth F. as a child in NOLA. She was a wonderful woman, very active in her community and a gracious host. She would be mortified at the very thought of accepting this money. Shame.

I would never use it to wash eyes and I have copy pasted the relevant bit from your link.

"But in cats, chlorhexidine can cause severe oral ulcers, laryngitis, pharyngitis and tracheitis. Besides direct application, these consequences can also occur after intubating a cat with an endotracheal tube that was washed with chlorhexidine (see photo). This can be prevented by not using chlorhexidine to clean small tubes, or by thoroughly rinsing them if chlorhexidine is used.

It can also occur after a cat licks a surgical site that had been scrubbed with chlorhexidine. This can be prevented by rinsing the skin postop and using an Elizabethan collar.

What is the best way to scrub the eye?
Chlorhexidine in any form and povidone iodine scrub cause corneal ulcerations. It is therefore recommended to use diluted povidone iodine solutions (0.2 percent), either made in-house or purchased as an ophthalmic preparation from your supplier.

The skin around the eye can be prepped as usual, but scrub or alcohol should never touch the eye. A generous amount of eye lube can be used to protect the eye from harsh chemicals. "
No, I didn’t think anyone would apply it to the eyes. It’s usually about people not realizing how well they need to rinse it off their hands because we now know just how often we touch our face and eyes,

Truly, tresir, I was not trying to be argumentative. I just wanted to note for others that extreme care should be used with this product. I can guarantee you that if someone next posts about essential oils, I am going to pipe up to be sure they know how dangerous those are if you have cats.

I am just one of those very safety-minded people who cannot help but to tell others if I know about specific dangers of products. And because I actually use this, my doctors made me aware of those dangers.

Edited per tresir request

"Take Out Tuesday" to support local businesses. We have been doing our "due diligence" to support the locals. While I have not been overly hungry, I did take one for the team, and we forced ourselves to order a specialty house cured bacon and onion tart flambe yesterday. Made with creme fraiche.

Yum.

LOL!! I've been taking one for the team too at least once a week. I thought it was "Take Out Wednesday" so I will be sacrificing some of my government money and ordering in Chinese for supper today. I'm just doing my part, stimulating the economy you know. ;)

Just Wow
at "up to 70 days later".

ditto wow. wow. You know, sometimes I think we Americans are bred to be optimistic, positive...so we are looking at "opening up" but slowly is a good thing. Maybe it is...but do we really have rosy-colored glasses on??? When you read these statistics in Asia, and listen to Robert Redfield, CDC Head, about a possible second wave. It just feels like "we haven't seen nothin yet". Ok, Debbie Downer signing off for a while. Going to dig in my gardens..to be a better outlook for the day...

Mnuchin said at yesterday's White House press briefing that they will be going after businesses that take advantage of the relief package that was meant for small businesses. See his quote in the following MSM article
Trump says he will ask Harvard, big businesses to return coronavirus relief funds

I feel the very same feelings---I just don't want take-out. And yet I truly want to support the locals. We have so many restaurants in our area, but only small restaurants in our town, no chains.

I am in a couple of groups where we collect supplies/donations etc for the more needy in our area, and we meet in a local church yard to collect and assemble.

So yesterday, I asked some of my friends "Who has really good takeout?" and "do we know anyone who really needs more business right now?" just to see if it would encourage my take-out appetite. It didn't. I'll try again later though.
I heard a good idea from Tricia's show. Purchase gift cards for take-out and give to medical workers. They likely have a big appetite and little time or energy to shop and cook right now. Hmmm....now you've got the wheels turning in my head.

I don't have the link, but at yesterday's White House press briefing, I thought I heard Mnuchin say that there is a website that provides transparency and shows the businesses that have less than 10 employees receiving a huge chunk of the emergency relief, it was an impressive amount.

EBM Below is the link to news article with quote from Mnuchin -

"We have over a million companies that have received this with less than 10 workers. There is very broad participation in really small business. I will comment there have been some big businesses that have taken these loans. I was pleased to see that Shake Shack returned the money,” Mnuchin said. “The intent of this was not for big public companies that have access to capital.”

"Mnuchin also said he wanted to give companies the “benefit of the doubt” by assuming they didn’t understand the requirements but warned of consequences for large businesses that take advantage of the program."

A particularly troubling finding in the AP investigation is that many of the highest beneficiaries not only shouldn’t have applied for the aid because of their size, but they weren’t victims of the coronavirus at all. For example, about a quarter of the 75 public companies identified in the report warned their investors about internal financial issues months before the coronavirus outbreak. Five of the eight companies receiving $10 million had been under government investigations in the past.

Indeed.

Additionally, what happened with Dr. LW and all the coverup and silencing of their (now missing) citizen journalists, etc. is unacceptable (and scary).

What happened to Chen Q, Fang Bin, and the missing others?? Any news at all? :(

China's disappeared: What happened to those who dared to speak up about coronavirus? | Daily Mail Online

“Their fate is unknown but human rights groups believe Mr Fang – along with lawyer Chen Qiushi and former state TV reporter Li Zehua – are being tortured and forced to write confessions in extrajudicial detention centres where, in more normal times, Chinese police secretly terrorise lawyers and activists who are seen as enemies of the state.”

[...]

“The Chinese government has been silent over the fate of the whistle-blowers but all three are believed to be in secret detention centres – a sinister form of extrajudicial imprisonment described by officials as ‘residential surveillance at a designated location’.

Frances Eve, deputy director of research at Hong Kong-based watchdog Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD), said: ‘Everyone who has disappeared is at very high risk of torture – most likely to try to force them to confess that their activities were criminal or harmful to society.

‘Then, as we’ve seen in previous cases, people who have been disappeared will be brought out and forced to confess on Chinese state television.’”

[...]

“China has denied knowledge of the disappearance of the whistle-blowers. The Chinese ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, has been asked twice in TV interviews about the fate of Chen Qiushi, insisting angrily in the second interview in March: ‘I have not heard of this person… I did not know him then, and I do not know him now.’

The only disappeared person China has made any official comment on is billionaire property tycoon Ren Zhiqiang, 69, who vanished in March after calling President Xi Jinping a clown for mishandling the virus outbreak.”

[...]

“She added: ‘There’s a Chinese phrase that you kill the chicken to scare the monkey. The arrest of the eight doctors, including Dr Li, at the beginning of January was a signal to people to be silent about the coronavirus.’

Hmmm...I don’t see them being forced out on TV right now moo.

ETA:

Pierre Haski, president of Reporters Without Borders, said both men are in "the hands of the Chinese authorities."

There is "very little" information about their disappearance, reports Le Parisian.

Haski added: "The authorities may keep them until the subject of the health crisis becomes less hot. In this case, one could imagine that they will be released within a few weeks, but this remains unlikely. The other more usual scenario would be to hear more about them for a while. Then we will learn within six months that they have been indicted for subversion."”

“A Chinese government spokesman said FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr is more than welcome to visit Wuhan but called Carr’s request to speak with disappeared citizen COVID19 whistleblowers “a fiction.””

[...]

“Last week, Carr asked China’s communist government to give him permission to speak with the many disappeared citizen journalists who sounded early alarms on the severity of the coronavirus outbreak.

During the back and forth twitter thread the Chinese spokesman suggested that U.S. officials should visit China to experience “freedom,” and the FCC commissioner accepted the offer, adding that first he wants to speak with the brave journalists.”

Why have two reporters in Wuhan disappeared?
Feb 14
Yeah, awful how journalists and whistleblowers are treated......

I have been unable to find any articles that clarify the backgrounds of these early cases. I would think that would be open and available information to report. I want to know more.

Santa Clara County officials did not identify either of the two individuals who died, whether they had traveled to Wuhan or elsewhere, or whether they had contact with the few people who had been diagnosed with the disease before they died.

But reclassifying their deaths as related to the coronavirus suggests the virus had been spreading through the United States for much longer than was initially thought — potentially for weeks or even months longer.

First American coronavirus deaths took place weeks before initially thought
I would not be surprised if they were from a cruise ship. MOO.
