My friends and I are doing "Friday night" at my garden. We started this a few weeks ago, more and more folks are just showing up. Lots of social distancing. We have a good time.

A small group of long-time friends have started doing something similar, gathering while distancing in one couples' patio, wearing masks. It's nice to have that kind of in-person conversation, even though we also have a weekly Zoom "cocktail hour."

I just wish we could do this with our son and family, and with other relatives, but they all live too far away.

Wow. I think maybe I heard about potassium at some point because I started bugging my husband about his (lack of) potassium intake. I'm so sorry you have to track potassium, but at least it's doable. Good point about the twitching. Hopefully her mini-strokes (maybe evidence of TIA's? Rare in younger people - but perhaps CoVid turns younger people very quickly into elderly people with electrolyte issues...)

I'm guessing that the first doctor knew that about potassium and blood sugar, which is why he called in the second doctor. I keep putting off going to the doctor over my chronic cough (started after intubation during a relatively minor procedure in January, it's not Covid). That'll be next week (that's what I said last week).
We have the opposite diagnosis to deal with (hyperkalemia) so have to monitor potassium carefully plus vitamin K.
Makes it a bit tough on meal planning sometimes.

Figures are nearly in for June 26.

~47,000 new cases in the US. A surprising number of states reported near-exponential growth over the last week.

That's in one day.

Let's say it's only 40,000 per day going out from here. An Rt of .9-1.0 (slight decrease, plateau).

280,000 per week, 1.2 million in a month. However, we can expect some fear and trepidation (and new laws) to kick in various places, also, the death rate should not remain 5%. I will have to repeat that arithmetic because...my mind refuses to grasp it.

That's cases that would be 1.2 million (not 1.2 million deaths). The deaths will occur in a spike with a rise in about 2-3 weeks, then a spike at 4-5 weeks out.

I'm optimistic that the case rate will drop a little, out of sheer fear (if the message ever gets across to the people who need to know). So I think it will be less than 1 million. But the projections are from 800,000-1.4 million.

If the death rate also drops due to the age of the group now infected, then I think we are looking at around 120,000-300,000 deaths depending on just how many people over 50 and with pre-existing conditions are involved. That's in the next month.

If people change their behavior (as they did in Sweden when it got to this point), it could be way less.

Unless you live someplace where rates are dropping, stay home if you possibly can.

If your area is rising rapidly in case numbers (or is within 100-200 miles of a place that is), this is not the wave you want to surf.

People really do try to flee this - and they go to more remote places, exposing everyone in the entire nation over time. They go camping, they travel around.

Stay home, wear a mask at all public gatherings. If one of your household has to go to work and there's public exposure (say, more than 5-10 people seen from 6 feet away, masked), wear masks at home. If that same workplace has people who wear masks as customers, then...I might sleep in separate rooms depending on local rates. If higher risk, still wear a mask with family/roommates.

People here on WS have gotten through all of this successfully.

But it is my most heartfelt wish that not a single one of you gets CV-19. Over and out.

Dancing with myself.
Yup. That is what I'm doing this Friday night.
There is wine involved in this dancing. Quite a bit.
I want to give San Diego kudos.
Everyone is wearing a mask everywhere.
I'm on my little sailboat and there are parties going on. I declined, because I adore my husband who nearly died a year ago.
Nothing would be worse for me then infecting the love of my life.
BUT, I can still turn up the radio and dance by myself.
I see this virus everywhere. Whatever I do, I consider this frigging virus following me and waiting for a chance to invade me and most importantly my beloved.

I just got back from the bar. Who do you want to hear about? The 80+ year old veteran, who spends his time marching at funerals? The other 80 year old cancer survivor with diabetes who wanted to hear details of our Fantasy Baseball draft? The retired pharmacy manager that runs the league, and is there every day? The musician with "underlying health issues" who showed up to play because no one else would? The hard core Christian friends that we met there that are coming back to visit? The bile in my throat prevents me from continuing.

I don't live my life with the word "Hate".
But, this has changed for me.
I completely and Totally HATE this virus.
Never, Ever. Should any country be allowed to unleash a deadly virus against our world.
Never.
Covid-19 is not a political virus. It will decimate and infect everyone it can. That is how it can survive, hosts.
Yeah, I guess it's politically incorrect to name China as the country who keeps unleashing deadly viruses into our world.
Truth be told. It is China.
Period.
Yes, I'm upset.
My whole world has been up ended.
I'm pretty dog dang pissed off about that. Period.

Yes, it’s one evil virus alright! Funny though,,,I tend to think of it like the Pac-Man game...except the hunter in this case is invisible making it/him even harder to evade....so I, as the hunted, try to avoid boxes
( stores) or anywhere I might get trapped. It’s get in, get the necessities and get out and go home to my safe spot. I suppose it’s rather silly, but somehow imaging that little Pac-Man guy is trying to trap me and gobble me up makes me very conscientious about wearing my mask, not touching my face, using sanitizer, etc etc......and makes me more comfortable doing it,,,,like it’s a game, rather than the fearful harsh reality we are currently living in. Heck,,,,unlike the Pac-Mans victims I really do have ONE life.....

My father lost both of his parents when he was 1 year old from the flu epidemic in the UK.
He ended up with an 'aunt' who wasn't particularly kind or thoughtful. She once ironed a wrinkle out of his shirt sleeve while he was wearing the shirt. He bore the scar from that his whole life.
And his 4 older siblings were re-homed all over the place and never really reunited.

I wonder how many people are thinking about the future of the children who are losing their parents now.

Oh my gosh. That’s awful. Sorry to hear it.

We are having more than 300 South Australians returning home from Mumbai this weekend, directly into my state (which is also their state).
Bit nervous. Hoping we do this right and it doesn't blow what we have achieved to date.

Many sure seem to come from there and while it’s not certain, the wet markets do seem to be a possible origin point for various pandemics. I have a problem with that.

But truth be told, diseases can originate anywhere at any time and the west often exoticizes them. For example, the “Spanish Flu” likely originated in Kansas.

And while China did what we are doing now and tried to ignore and downplay this virus, they ultimately seem to have handled it better than we are.

I mean they have what, 1.3 BILLION people but the number of COVID deaths is far lower than in our nation of 328 million.

I don’t know. I’m not suggesting we employ the harsh, totalitarian measures they did, to control this thing but I kind of feel like we are long past blaming China and need to start looking at the absolutely criminal manner in which we ourselves have addressed this scourge.

Yeah....many of those doing handwringing over the protests of a man's murder conveniently forgot that those fine "liberate" folks shot down our progress well before any of the rest of it.

All of the protests and rallies are problematic, but those early "liberate" protests were actually egged on by the people at the top who are supposed to protect us, as well as the paychecks of those who protested for financial reasons. Those crying over not getting their hair colored are different story altogether . They ruined it for everyone early on, and I guess the protests that came after came from a place of nihilism - "we may as well do it for a just cause."

Is there evidence those early "open up" protests resulted in a large increase in cases in their states ? Many stayed in their cars IIRC. There is one state I remember that had them where they thronged their Capitol building and I am pretty much sure most of us were horrified at it.

I think everyone in the world is laughing at us. Or sitting quietly in the corner, sobbing into their handkerchief. I think it is time to step away from the Internet today, so I don't join them.
Nobody is laughing at you. We are all praying and hoping that the higher cases, being hopefully in the younger population and not in the older or those with pre existing conditions, will not equate to higher deaths.

I think dancing is of the very best things one can do for one's body and soul, especially in these times.
