There may be some... Can someone here give me an example of another disease that has NATURAL herd immunity?

Original SARS?
H1N1?
So, the science is that 'herd immunity' is a temporary condition that limits the spread of highly contagious diseases.

However, one of two things happen: members of the herd who are not immune get the disease and spread it to other members of the herd, or to an outside herd, in regular outbreaks.

Or, if there are no outbreaks, the disease is eradicated, and new generations are born without immunity, until eventually there is no immunity throughout the herd, but it doesn't matter because the disease is gone.

Coronavirus: Liverpool crowds 'shame our city'

Pictures of large crowds gathering in Liverpool two hours before new Covid-19 restrictions came into effect "shame our city", its mayor has said.

Footage on social media showed people dancing and surrounding a police car in Concert Square at 22:00 BST.

Liverpool City Region is the only area in the top tier of the government's new system of restrictions.

Mayor Joe Anderson said ignoring facts about the virus was "why we are in Tier 3 measures".

The new rules mean pubs in the city region not serving meals must stay shut, along with gyms, leisure centres, betting shops and casinos.

The crowds gathered as nearby bars closed but police said they were dispersed quickly and safely, although 38 fixed penalty notices were issued for breaching coronavirus legislation.

Gosh! I need to go out into the sun and get my garden together and get some Vitamin D say hey to neighbors.

In the meantime, perhaps google "endemic" or perhaps others can address.

Varicella (chickenpox) has a vaccine which is administered to American children around age 12-15 months, with a booster just before school, and often another booster at age 13-14.

Chickenpox wasn't under control until the vaccine came along. And, it has an interesting twist, which is that older adults lose their immunity (this has to do with T cells and humoral immunity) and can get shingles...so we retake the vaccine if we're concerned as adults. I don't know anyone who has ever had shingles who didn't go on to take the vaccine, as it is not a fun disease.

Meanwhile, in the UK children are not vaccinated against chicken pox. Most kids catch it at some point during primary school years.

This year’s one-day Paris-Roubaix cycling race, which passes through northern France, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, race organizer Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) said on Friday.

The race, originally postponed from April, was supposed to take place on October 25. But Thursday’s announcement by the French government said that the city of Lille and the surrounding area had been placed on maximum alert because of rising COVID-19 infections, forcing ASO to cancel the race.

The following five countries have the lowest Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 people since the start of the pandemic: South Korea (0.7); Japan (1.2); Australia (3.3), Norway (5.0); and Finland (6.1).

Five countries with the highest levels of Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants: Belgium (86.8); Spain (65.0); United Kingdom (62.6); United States (60.3); and Italy (59.1).

International travel hubs and open land borders in all five of those high Covid level countries made the big difference. IMOO

Ergo, no herd immunity - without a vaccine. Before the vaccine, it was endemic in the U.S.

My eldest had a mild case of chicken pox at age 2, so we thought she was immune (before the vaccine). She got it again at age 6 and it was quite serious. My second had a moderate case when she was 7, and then got the vaccine a bit later. My grandkids don't have to worry about it.

Apparently, a mild case of chicken pox can result in later reactivity to a second infection - something we may be seeing with CoVid as well.

Reinfection is rare, but it is too soon to now how rare. BBC has a great case study here:

Covid reinfection: Man gets Covid twice and second hit 'more severe'

And hardly any viruses go away completely:

There are diseases hidden in ice, and they are waking up

Bubonic plague is still around - but fortunately, most people have heard of it and know how to mitigate it when it is diagnosed (isolation, same as CoVid, receive available treatments). It's not transmitted directly between humans (much, anyway), it's usually transmitted by fleas - so flea eradication (and sometimes rodent eradication) is called for.

One of the most noteworthy is the astounding low CFR and IFR of Japan. Who has a density of living even greater than NYC MOO.

Dr. Campbell has been addressing such in the last week and interviewing some others. Very intriguing to say the least on his opinions.

What is "dim sum for lunch", if you don't mind me asking?

It is a Cantonese large range of small dishes that the Cantonese traditionally enjoy for breakfast or lunch. It is very popular in the U.S. as well. Chinese from northern China (Beijing) have it for the first time when they come to the U.S., they have never seen it before.

Melania Trump announces Barron Trump had coronavirus but is now negative.

Assume this considered exempt from 10% copyright from the White House/Government of the United States site?

First Lady Melania Trump: “My personal experience with COVID-19.” | The White House

"It was two weeks ago when I received the diagnosis that so many Americans across our country and the world had already received—I tested positive for COVID-19. To make matters worse, my husband, and our nation’s Commander-in-Chief, received the same news.

Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldn’t help but think “what about tomorrow or the next day?”. My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative.

I was very fortunate as my diagnosis came with minimal symptoms, though they hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after. I experienced body aches, a cough and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food. We had wonderful caretakers around us and we will be forever grateful for the medical care and professional discretion we received from Dr. Conley and his team. It was an unfamiliar feeling for me to be the patient instead of a person trying to encourage our nation to stay healthy and safe. It was me being taken care of now, and getting first-hand experience with all that COVID-19 can do. As the patient, and the person benefitting from so much medical support, I found myself even more grateful and in awe of caretakers and first responders everywhere. To the medical staff and the residence staff who have been taking care of our family—thank you doesn’t say enough.

Recovering from an illness gives you a lot of time to reflect. When my husband was taken to Walter Reed as a precaution, I spent much of my time reflecting on my family. I also thought about the hundreds of thousands of people across our country who have been impacted by this illness that infects people with no discrimination. We are in unprecedented times—and with the election fast approaching, it has been easy to get caught up in so much negative energy.

It also cheered me to think of all the people I have met across our country and the world—and the goodness and compassion that exists if you seek it out. Our country has overcome many hardships and much adversity, and it is my hope COVID-19 will be another obstacle we will be able to tell future generations we overcame—and learned from in the process.

I encourage everyone to continue to live the healthiest life they can. A balanced diet, fresh air, and vitamins really are vital to keep our bodies healthy. For your complete well-being, compassion and humility are just as important in keeping our minds strong. For me personally, the most impactful part of my recovery was the opportunity to reflect on many things—family, friendships, my work, and staying true to who you are.

I am happy to report that I have tested negative and hope to resume my duties as soon as I can. Along with this good news, I want people to know that I understand just how fortunate my family is to have received the kind of care that we did. If you are sick, or if you have a loved one who is sick—I am thinking of you and will be thinking of you every day. I pray for our country and I pray for everyone who is grappling with COVID-19 and any other illnesses or challenges.

Thank you to everyone who reached out, and offered well wishes and prayers for our family. You remain in ours as well."

Beautiful statement from the First Lady. Glad to hear that their son is doing well now, as well as the rest of the family.

God bless them. So glad they have all recovered. As with our PM and his pregnant fiance Carrie. We know how very worrying it can be.

And some 3-year olds in daycare in Australia then pass it along to their mum. :p

Sounds like you speak from experience! I’ve never known an adult get it, but I suppose it must happen here. My daughter was one of only two in her class that hadn’t had it by age 9 or 10. Just as I was considering a private vaccination because I’ve heard it’s worse in teen years (would’ve cost about £120) she caught a nice dose of it.

I read earlier about children being early recipients of a corona vaccine, not sure I’d put mine forward just yet.

Of the larger countries, Peru is now in first place on this terrible list, with 101 deaths per 100,000. Then Belgium, Spain, Bolivia and Brazil. Skyrocketing deaths in Latin America have shifted our list in just the past week.

UK has, gratefully, fallen out of the top 10 of larger nations (#10 with about 62 deaths per 100,000), the US is in 8th place with 67.)

I agree. I don't think it is ethically a good thing to put a child forward for testing of a covid vaccine - as was posted a little further back in the thread. It is not the child's choice to be an experiment. And if some very bad permanent reaction happened, I dont know how a parent could explain that away.
