A ‘perfect storm’ is brewing in the global response to Covid, WEF risk report panelist warns
This article, I believe, was source material for the report on NBC News -
Okay. I truly apologize if I offended anyone - this was not my intention. As I watched the early edition of NBC News, this was a big story - I actually was able to quote the reporter as I was typing the post. The word 'hoarding' was used several times in regards to the amount of vaccine each country has- again, I meant no disrespect and I sincerely apologize for any disrespect- it is NEVER okay to provoke or purposely offend anyone in a forum such as this.
I am, actually, very interested in what others think about how much vaccine each country has - as most of you are aware, the US has had a very tumultuous year and there are many questions about who gets the vaccine and who doesn't. I am truly interested in what other areas of the world are doing or if this has been an issue. I mean, let's face it, the United States has not handled the COVID-19 pandemic very well -
I do want to know what is happening in our neighbor countries.
Again, I am sorry if the post offended you or if you felt I was being disrespectful. That was never my intention.
Here is what I'm reading and hearing from local California public health leaders and doctors.
No where near the amount of vaccine that we anticipated getting has been shipped. There was, as I understand it, one set of shipments under the Trump administration, which fell short of expectations by...millions of doses. So people thought more shipments were coming.
Then, the new administration basically finds that the rest of the vaccines can't be shipped, as they can't be found (either never existed, are lost/hidden, or stolen).
At any rate, every area in the US that I read about has no more vaccine left. California has enough to finish up with healthcare workers (but not dental hygienists or physical therapists) and to give a second dose. A fair number of those 75 and over will get a second dose as well (nursing/care home occupants are pretty much guaranteed a second dose). Some specific areas (one part of Los Angeles known as Long Beach) have enough vaccine to start with teachers and over 65's - but you have to have proof that you reside in that area).
All of those polls regarding how only half of healthcare workers would get the vaccine turn out to be wrong - while some nurses are still resisting the vaccine, most workplaces are requiring it, so it's either the vaccine or the job (and people are not choosing to lose their jobs, frankly, which should have been obvious all along). Still, in some areas, fewer people are getting the vaccine, so it goes further - oddly, some areas (San Diego) where many said they would not take the vaccine, lines are extremely long, slots to reserve the vaccine require sitting and refreshing one's computer all day - for days. They just moved past healthcare workers in San Diego, so it's chaos - it's clear that the 40% who said they wouldn't take the vaccine are now trying to get it.
It's bad. It's extremely saddening that the money spent by the US government on 100's of millions of doses of vaccines (should have been enough to vaccinate nearly the entire adult population)...is gone and where are the vaccines?
At first, a lot of people thought it was purely political (red states got the vaccines, blue states didn't) but now it's clear that's not the case. But where are the missing vaccines? The New York Times has reporters investigating, but since no one knows...there's not much of an answer. **Everyone** (blue states, red states, public health officials, infectious disease experts) thought that there would be continued shipments of vaccines after the first.
That didn't happen - anywhere. Here's a bit of info:
Covid-19 Live Updates: Biden Predicts More Than 600,000 U.S. Deaths
IMO, the first shipment was designed to make us believe the prior government was doing its job. But where are the missing vaccines?
Pfizer says they shipped them. Pfizer says the federal government got them.
So where are those vaccines for Illinois?
Apparently, we all misunderstood. Every health department throughout the US was "confused" about how many vaccines were coming. I wonder why. Was it a lie that the Trump administration purchased 100 million doses of just Moderna? (And supposedly, 200 million of AstraZeneca doses - that were supposedly already produced - but not deliverable until February...we shall see). I can't remember the Pfizer dose number, but obviously, the US purchased enough to vaccinate the adult population...but it's nowhere to be found. Hopefully AstraZeneca won't have any more problems and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine (also February) will help.

The above article shows that we should have had more vaccine deliverable at this time. The refrigerators and special freezers sit empty. The refrigerated supply chain workers have nothing to do. Warehouses are empty.
The new administration has a lot of work to do. Some of it is detective work.
