I think the news story you are referring to may have been talking about total ordered all together, rather than total received. And totals ordered in the end would presumably include allowances for wastage, and possibly sharing with other countries in need. Canada is way short of vaccines available to provide for its citizens and our govt is telling us that most of our population 'who wishes to be vaccinated' should be vaccinated by September 2021, 9 months from now. This week our province's premier asked the US government for one million doses because Pfizer isn't sending any to us at all in the next week or so.

Ford asks U.S. to donate 1M vaccines, gets crude when talking about Pfizer executive

Pfizer tells Canada it will not receive any Covid-19 vaccine doses next week - CNN

After a little research, I found this article from the NY Times. Now, it is about 4 weeks old, but I an assure you, NBC News ran this story yesterday and stated that each country had the vaccine - I interpreted this as the vaccine was in hand, not just reserved.

There are many conflicting reports out there, so I always find my news from recognized sites - When I heard the story, I became interested and, perhaps got a little too anxious. You were absolutely right to correct me.

With First Dibs on Vaccines, Rich Countries Have ‘Cleared the Shelves’

This topic concerning the vaccines and the roll out is a priority for all. I am very excited and hopeful for our new US president - I believe in his vision and am anxious to get the distribution of vaccine to as many as possible.

I do apologize if you felt I was untruthful or creating fake news. I appreciate you calling me on it.

North Carolina reports its first case of the new, more contagious COVID-19 strain — The Charlotte Observer

“North Carolina has identified its first case of a new highly infectious strain of the coronavirus.

The variant was found in a sample from an adult man in Mecklenburg County, according to a North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services press release. No other information about the man was released.

“While expected, identification of this COVID-19 variant in North Carolina is concerning, especially at the same time as we are already seeing very high numbers of cases,” said Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of NC DHHS, in a news release Saturday.”

More good news....:eek::(

North Carolina reports 122 COVID-19 deaths, more than 7,000 new cases — News & Observer

“North Carolina reported 122 new COVID-19 related deaths on Saturday and over 7,000 new cases, as the state continues to struggle in curbing the spread of the virus.

The state also reported its first case of a new, more contagious strain of the coronavirus that has been spreading across the country, The News & Observer reported.”

Wings - You are not naive in any way.
This evil virus is a nightmare in the speed with which it kills, and the ease of contagion.

A few statistics on total US deaths for events from the 20th Century:

Vietnam War: 58,000
WW2: 418,000
Civil War: 620,000

These numbers include both military and civilian casualties.

Since the first AIDS/HIV patient was diagnosed sometime in 1969, there have been 700,000 US deaths.

It is interesting to note that all of these these deadly events took place over the course of years and the public had time to process and grieve. Unfortunately, the COVID virus has taken hold so quickly, and the US was behind in treatment, research, and vaccine rollout. However, even with a late start, researchers discovered a vaccine that worked. Unfortunately, the virus was now spreading so fast and hundreds were dying each day.

We could have done so much to prepare the public before the virus hit. But, with poor leadership and no plan in place, the United States gave the virus time to get a foothold and overwhelm our heathcare system.

I am not saying we would have no death, but the total would have been much lower. I mean, seriously, masks became a political issue - what a nightmare. I place blame squarely on the shoulders of our leaders. They failed us in almost every way.

I totally agree with you---Leadership failed us massively----Biden is faced with an uphill battle to try and get control of this virus and get vaccines into arms ASAP-I don't envy him.

Many here on early threads, following Dr. Campbell, purchased them last February. I purchased mine on February 23rd of 2020, the same brand that Dr. Campbell uses.

It's now back to $19.95 which is the price I purchased it for before it went up to $30 in April last year. Zacurate brand.

I believe it's just as important to have in a medicine cabinet as a thermometer. Basic for if/when you need such. MOO

Dr. Seheult/MedCram and Dr. Campbell were discussing such, and the "happy hypoxia" at that time in February.

A ‘perfect storm’ is brewing in the global response to Covid, WEF risk report panelist warns

This article, I believe, was source material for the report on NBC News -

Okay. I truly apologize if I offended anyone - this was not my intention. As I watched the early edition of NBC News, this was a big story - I actually was able to quote the reporter as I was typing the post. The word 'hoarding' was used several times in regards to the amount of vaccine each country has- again, I meant no disrespect and I sincerely apologize for any disrespect- it is NEVER okay to provoke or purposely offend anyone in a forum such as this.

I am, actually, very interested in what others think about how much vaccine each country has - as most of you are aware, the US has had a very tumultuous year and there are many questions about who gets the vaccine and who doesn't. I am truly interested in what other areas of the world are doing or if this has been an issue. I mean, let's face it, the United States has not handled the COVID-19 pandemic very well -
I do want to know what is happening in our neighbor countries.

Again, I am sorry if the post offended you or if you felt I was being disrespectful. That was never my intention.

Here is what I'm reading and hearing from local California public health leaders and doctors.

No where near the amount of vaccine that we anticipated getting has been shipped. There was, as I understand it, one set of shipments under the Trump administration, which fell short of expectations by...millions of doses. So people thought more shipments were coming.

Then, the new administration basically finds that the rest of the vaccines can't be shipped, as they can't be found (either never existed, are lost/hidden, or stolen).

At any rate, every area in the US that I read about has no more vaccine left. California has enough to finish up with healthcare workers (but not dental hygienists or physical therapists) and to give a second dose. A fair number of those 75 and over will get a second dose as well (nursing/care home occupants are pretty much guaranteed a second dose). Some specific areas (one part of Los Angeles known as Long Beach) have enough vaccine to start with teachers and over 65's - but you have to have proof that you reside in that area).

All of those polls regarding how only half of healthcare workers would get the vaccine turn out to be wrong - while some nurses are still resisting the vaccine, most workplaces are requiring it, so it's either the vaccine or the job (and people are not choosing to lose their jobs, frankly, which should have been obvious all along). Still, in some areas, fewer people are getting the vaccine, so it goes further - oddly, some areas (San Diego) where many said they would not take the vaccine, lines are extremely long, slots to reserve the vaccine require sitting and refreshing one's computer all day - for days. They just moved past healthcare workers in San Diego, so it's chaos - it's clear that the 40% who said they wouldn't take the vaccine are now trying to get it.

It's bad. It's extremely saddening that the money spent by the US government on 100's of millions of doses of vaccines (should have been enough to vaccinate nearly the entire adult population)...is gone and where are the vaccines?

At first, a lot of people thought it was purely political (red states got the vaccines, blue states didn't) but now it's clear that's not the case. But where are the missing vaccines? The New York Times has reporters investigating, but since no one knows...there's not much of an answer. **Everyone** (blue states, red states, public health officials, infectious disease experts) thought that there would be continued shipments of vaccines after the first.

That didn't happen - anywhere. Here's a bit of info:

Covid-19 Live Updates: Biden Predicts More Than 600,000 U.S. Deaths

IMO, the first shipment was designed to make us believe the prior government was doing its job. But where are the missing vaccines?

Pfizer says they shipped them. Pfizer says the federal government got them.

So where are those vaccines for Illinois?

Apparently, we all misunderstood. Every health department throughout the US was "confused" about how many vaccines were coming. I wonder why. Was it a lie that the Trump administration purchased 100 million doses of just Moderna? (And supposedly, 200 million of AstraZeneca doses - that were supposedly already produced - but not deliverable until February...we shall see). I can't remember the Pfizer dose number, but obviously, the US purchased enough to vaccinate the adult population...but it's nowhere to be found. Hopefully AstraZeneca won't have any more problems and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine (also February) will help.

Trump Administration purchases additional 100 million doses of COVID-19 investigational vaccine from Moderna

The above article shows that we should have had more vaccine deliverable at this time. The refrigerators and special freezers sit empty. The refrigerated supply chain workers have nothing to do. Warehouses are empty.

The new administration has a lot of work to do. Some of it is detective work.

The youngest mourners: Children who have lost a parent to Covid-19

Some say they wish they were in heaven with their parents. Some can’t sleep, eat or concentrate on schoolwork. All are struggling.

Breaks my heart. I can only read a few of these stories per week. It's probably not popular to say, but the little kids who are thinking about their parents (sublimely happy in heaven without them) are going to have issues for life. How can a parent be happy in heaven without their kids? It just doesn't make sense, not to a 3 year old and not to me.

Indeed, that's why so many of us were ahead of MSM due to following here Dr. Campbell and Dr. Seheult. And when I shared with friends and family, they thought I was Chicken Little in February. Later in the year, we here were about 3 months ahead of MSM due to such.

Glad it's now hitting MSM more to have a pulse oximeter. I wish they would say it is a staple for medicine cabinets. ALL that have tested positive I ensured they had such. Family member pffftttd me when I said and the next day doc said to get. Then, and ONLY then was family member ok with such. Family member went that second to CVS to buy and get for positive elderly person (ended up in the hospital for over a week).

Oh well, we can only do so much without being called names iykwim.

Silent hypoxia has been known about for a long time in the UK too but I’m glad if it’s still being reported - can only help.

Pulse oximeters sold out last year. Then they stocked back up. Just checked UK Amazon and the established-brand ones have sold out again or risen in price hugely. Beurer (German) were recommended by medics here.

O/T... whenever I see you like something, or post... I think "Elephant in the room!"(Hmmm should we ignore this poster or bring it up lol...JOKE!!!.. don't see "theEmperorhasnoclothes" has a moniker name yet though)

Back O/T... yes, I just think that it's gonna go sideways with the pandemic for a bit. And someone was asking about the website as to countries and when they are getting... lemme look as I think I bookmarked. It was shocking that some aren't even getting until the end of this year.

Times like this perhaps push folks to understand that sharing and caring to help all (especially at the lowest level is to help themselves?)... vs. their balance to" nationalism and we must be first!" can jolt some to their core. MOO.

We'll see. Such a struggle to learn in these times the core beliefs of many that are shocking.. at least to me.

haha I love that!

I am absolutely thrilled to report I just found out that my father is being given his vaccine on Monday AT HOME. He is elderly and infirm and has some dementia. A parademic is going to his house to give the vaccine. I hadn’t realised any of our health authorities had yet moved to that level of flexibility/mobility/receptiveness, and I could burst into tears right now knowing they are going to do this for him.

Hi everyone. I've been following for awhile now. I go through my ups and downs with this pandemic. I'm feeling a little nervous with these new variants. Im trying not to freak out...but I'm definitely a worry wort. I'm just trying to keep my wits and be safe without living in fear. But i dont want to lie, I think im starting to. Any pep talks or kind words would be appreciated. Stay safe everyone.

The one thing that has helped me is doing things for others. Last spring/summer/fall just isolated but sharing over 175 bouquets from my garden.. then in winter sharing hot out of the oven food (so no virus concerns etc.) And subscribing to the other targeted threads here Coronavirus - Covid-19 re groceries, folks here who have had COVID, helping others, recipes, alternative holiday plans etc at the main header which you may want to participate in?

Again, I'm a worry wart but the BEST BEST BEST medicine for me is to each day, wake up and think.. how can I help others in my hood (as I don't go outta house except for trunk pickups since last February).

You can do it! And yes, we all have down times... as was said the other night.. sometimes you need to reach out for help.. and at the same time you can help someone else.

Just like when we were kids, sit on the fulcrum of the teeter totter and help others on one side of the totter when they are down, and ask for help at the same time when they are on the upside..for your ups and downs? Just like a teeter totter! (Is that what you called it when young?) Heck, they even have them at the US/Mexico border, how cool is that?

Walkers flock to parks in London while police enforce Covid rules — Daily Mail

“Britons today ignored the government's 'stay at home' message as they formed huge queues for coffees and flocked to parks as the sun came out.

Walkers, runners and cyclists were out and about in Hyde Park, central London, and Greenwich Park in the south-east of the capital.”

No one is wearing a mask!?

The U.K. government is yet to mandate or explicitly encourage mask-wearing in outdoor settings during the coronavirus pandemic.
Borough Market Is the First Outdoor Space in the U.K. to Legally Enforce Mask Wearing

(Makes no sense to me either.)

I had posted this comment in another thread specifically about the vaccine supplies. Please take it as a tongue-in-cheek post with a very genuine concern. I have enormous respect for all countries dealing with this nightmare virus.

Please excuse my ignorance if this has been posted and discussed - it is my first comment in this forum/thread.
SO --
What is with Canada, Japan, and Australia turning into Irma - my "dig in everyone's trash to collect random items" hoarding neighbor?

According to NBC News, Australia, Canada, and Japan are being accused of hoarding tons of vaccine - hence, my comparison to Irma.

Currently, Canada is reported to have enough vaccine for every single citizen 6 times over. And Austrailia has approximately 1% of worldwide COVID-19 cases, and yet, they have 6% of the total amount of vaccine in the world!
If Japan is thrown into the mix - these three countries have a total of 20% of all the total vaccine available worldwide. Wow. It's like toilet paper 6 months ago. Or, Costco selling vaccine and 3 people buy everything.

I have no distain for the health officials in these three countries. Actually, just the opposite. These countries, obviously, have great concern for their citizens and wanted to secure as much vaccine as possible.

The health officials in Japan, Australia, and Canada are concerned about their citizens and they acted quickly. Frankly, sitting here in the US, I am quite envious.
I would like to ask other posters if they have an issue with so much vaccine in places where there are less victims. Obviously, the vaccine will not be used right away as there is so much excess. What if other countries are in need of vaccine immediately and there is none available? Should victims have to endure suffering and death just because their country's health officials were unable to get vaccine when available? And, should country's like Australia be made to give up their stock?

Honestly, I am at a loss on this one. With so much death, even one day makes a huge impact. The sooner ALL people have access to the vaccine, the better off our world will be. This virus just sucks and there have already been so many who've died. I hate to think of healthy people who are ready to be vaccinated waiting even a day or an hour.

Canada is working out details of donating vaccine to poorer countries.

Hi abanddb123,

I’m sorry you are feeling down. It helps I think to spend at least as much time thinking about really good news stories and enjoyable pursuits, even if you have to force yourself to do it. Read about the wonderful people on the frontline or doing things for others, watch cat videos, play with your pets, pursue your hobby (eg craft) instead of looking at bad news. I don’t mean bury your head in the sand but try to get a balance that works better for you :)

There’s a thread in the coronavirus forum here about how people are finding pleasure etc - take a look at that for ideas maybe?

Hope you can find a good way through it

This is my opinion only, but I believe that a huge supply of vaccine, from multiple suppliers was ordered by the Canadian government as a reaction to one of the supply issues that arose in the Spring of 2020. Countries, including Canada, were finding that their shipments of much needed PPE were being highjacked right off the runways by unscrupulous buyers.

Canada isn't going to be stymied by such action again. Therefore, they bought more than required from many sources, and will donate the excess to needy countries.
