As of Wednesday, nearly 36 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines had been distributed to state and local governments. However, only about 16.5 million shots had been administered to patients.

There is no significant reserve of vaccines to speak of. For the most part, vaccines are being shipped out each week as they are manufactured.

They have said that each weekly shipment will give priority to people who need their second dose that week, and whatever is left will go to vaccinating new people.

At least three other vaccines are in late-stage clinical trials, and the success of any one of them could mean millions of more doses for U.S. residents by this spring.
Johnson & Johnson
AstraZeneca
Novavax

It’s still not clear, although conservatively, there could be enough vaccines by the summer.

U.S. Covid Vaccine Supply: How to Make Sense of Those Confusing Numbers

Just like when we were kids, sit on the fulcrum of the teeter totter and help others on one side of the totter when they are down, and ask for help at the same time when they are on the upside..for your ups and downs? Just like a teeter totter! (Is that what you called it when young?) Heck, they even have them at the US/Mexico border, how cool is that?

Teeter-Totters at U.S.-Mexico Border Win UK Design Prize

I haven’t heard them called teeter totters, only see-saws. Those ones at the border are brilliant and very heartening.

eta : oh I see they only lasted an hour :(

They will allow 50-75% capacity spectators, depending how we are doing in February when the Australian Open is held. There will be three venues, no mixing of spectators in those venues. If you go to one venue, you go to no other venue.
If an outbreak happens, the spectators will be further reduced or go down to zero.

The athletes have been allowed to train for 5 hours daily in training bubbles. I believe that means two players and two staff together, no mixing of bubbles. Then back into 14-day quarantine.

There are 75 or so people under strict 14-day quarantine due to the covid that was discovered on their flight here. They have to train in their rooms, against backboards that have been set up.

They all agreed to these conditions. No matter how much they are whinging, they signed up for the terms of playing in the Australian Open.

They also have plenty of time to train (3 weeks after quarantine) before the Open begins. This was all planned with a 3 week cushion to allow for covid cases to be discovered and dealt with.

Australian Open FAQs: How pandemic, protocols will affect 2021's first tennis major

thanks! from the snippets of news here, you would think that the athletes all get locked in hotel rooms for two weeks and then on day 15 have their matches! makes a lot of sense with the correct information.
