*hmmmm, some lower numbers.

BUT look at India. They just jumped to the top. They have the “double mutant variant“, which has also been identified in the Bay Area:

Good news for us today. We are about to have our first two-way travel bubble .... with New Zealand. No quarantine required. Very happy about that. Baby steps.

Could be that I will soon be able to use the significant Qantas credit that I was given when I had to cancel my trip to the US last year. New Zealand is such a beautiful country and I have only explored a small portion of it, so far. :)

Australians could book an overseas holiday as early as today with the trans-Tasman bubble between Australia and New Zealand possibly ready for takeoff after months of setbacks.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is set to announce today when the trans- Tasman bubble will finally begin, allowing people to travel between New Zealand and Australia without needing to quarantine.
The two-way travel bubble is expected to start either on April 12 or 19.
Overseas trips to NZ to soon become a reality

How exciting!

Community, Work, and School

I appreciate that Covid is a "moving target" on information. That being said, it is really difficult to keep up with the CDC, when information keeps changing. Before, surfaces were considered potential for transmission.

The reason I have issues with the changes, are many...because I deal with people all day long on the continuum of "Covid Awareness". From ones who could care less, to those who took everything from the CDC as "gospel", and even though the CDC has changed the information, these folks are not there yet...they still regard everything in the environment as potentially toxic, filled with infection.

Imagine supervising people who are all along this continuum...and trying to move forward with work, when the CDC changes information...I have to change cleaning contract, because we are not going to continue to pay for cleaners 24×7 based on this new CDC information. But, this will freak out the people who still have the "Everything is Toxic"...mentality.

Just pass me some Xanex. Please.

I would give a kidney to be in any kind of Aussie NZ bubble. Not only bc of your badassness demonstrated through all of this, and obviously low covid rates, but your nature. Oh I would do anything to be snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef right now, anything, you ever done that Aussie? And NZ, so greeeeeen......kangaroos, Kaula bears, take me away...dream....

Covid stopped my planned Great Barrier Reef holiday last year, as we couldn't even travel from state to state at that point in time. Another set of refunds we had to get from the airlines.

(Yes, I have done lots of snorkelling .. at a reef in my own state, and also in the Bahamas. :) )

"It’s time to unplug the sanitizing robots and put away the bottles of Clorox that seem to line the entrances to every school, restaurant and supermarket wanting to advertise its safety protocols. While such protocols may be reassuring to an anxious populace, they are not necessary, says a revised guidance issued on Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

End the hygiene theater, CDC says

are they really really sure this time? because no one believes anything anymore : (

Remember Santa Clara County, Covid was circulating there in the early days, before we knew extent of transmission, they found out much later later via postmortem analysis/reports COD was actually covid in early Jan iirc...interesting the “double mutant” is there also. (@MJPeony, speaking of SCC, where ya at.)

@SouthAussie
Kiss a kiwi bird for us when you go to NZ

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, according to a release from his office.

The Republican governor who took office in January had mild symptoms Sunday and was tested Monday in Gallatin County. He received the positive result later in the day.

Gianforte, 59, will quarantine for 10 days, following his doctor's and public health guidance, according to the release. He will work from his home in Bozeman during that time, the release said.

The governor notified all of his close contacts, the release said, though it did not specify how many people that included.

In an email late Monday, a spokesperson said the last public events Gianforte held were Thursday evening.

"He has been in close contact with one staff member, a member of his protective detail, family members, and friends who he had dinner with," Brooke Stroyke wrote in an email.

Gianforte also attended Easter service at his church before he had symptoms, Stroyke said, "and had no close contacts there aside from members of his family."

In February, after the Legislature passed a bill to give businesses and others legal protections over exposure to the virus and the state began vaccinating those most vulnerable, Gianforte lifted the statewide mask mandate.

Yeah, nobody has close contact with others when they're at church, especially if they're a politician. Thoughts & Prayers.

Dinner with friends, family get together and indoor church service - all with 2-3 days after getting his first vaccination dose.....

“Last Thursday, Gianforte received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccineat a Helena pharmacy. While the Pfizer vaccine is about 95% effective a person does not get immunity until two weeks after their second dose, meaning Gianforte tested positive before immunity would have taken effect.”

I wish we had more of an international plan in place to reassure vaccine manufacturers that they'd get paid even if a country is in transition and it's difficult to get contracts updated.

After all, stopping distribution over money translates into increased risk for the entire world.

Yes, indeed that is true. Good for you to make such a worthy suggestion. I hope the world hears you.
