@JerseyGirl and Gitana and others... hope this helps to prevent incorrect info/misleading info

I contacted the company and this was their quoted response through their Facebook account.(McCabe ambulance, easily identified through FB)

'Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the media doesn't always do us favors .

In an effort to quell some of the misleading social media posting regarding our response to the Anthem of The Seas this morning, we offer the following.

Although video and images captured from the scene displayed personnel moving patients without masks (Personal Protective Equipment), it should be known that in addition to the individuals transported for screening, there were four additional patients removed from the vessel with medical conditions unrelated to Novel coronavirus.

The individuals removed for screening were removed by personnel in full CDC recommended PPE, including masks for the patients, masks for the providers, as well as eye protection and gowns. We worked seamlessly with our counterparts from the CDC, PA NY/NJ, CBP and the DOH to ensure the safety of all providers and patients."

I personally, do not doubt their explanation.

ETA: I received another FB message from them and they are attempting to have the media outlet correct. (Good luck with that harrumph)

Nice! Thanks for getting that info!!

Regarding Anthem at the Seas in Bayonne, NJ:

"This morning, personnel from the @CDCgov boarded a cruise ship docked in Bayonne and screened 27 passengers who recently traveled from mainland China," tweeted NJ Gov. Phil Murphy. "23 of those passengers were cleared and four individuals are being evaluated at an area hospital."

A passenger who said he was among those quarantined said that 15 people were held in a kitchen while their temperatures were taken. They were asked how long it had been since they had been to China and if they had been there within the last two weeks.

"I live in the UK, " said Jin Yan. "I have not lived in China for the last three years. We were isolated in one of the restaurants on the ship with other Chinese together, but it actually put me at risk because I haven't been to China for the last month. The passengers that had been to China may be infected me as well."

Royal Caribbean imposes ban following coronavirus scare

Yeah that doesn’t seem right. They’re discriminating based on nationality rather than base on science and logic and that could harm someone. Can’t they just see on their passports whether they’ve traveled to Asia in the last couple weeks? I mean it feels wrong to me. Viruses don’t care about nationality or ethnicity. They care about location and health status.

They’re opening themselves up to a lawsuit should someone contract a virus based on that policy and get seriously ill or dies.

ETA: And what about non-Chinese nationals who have travelled there in the last couple weeks? Is the cruise ship not refusing to let them board? Or isolating them in a herd?

ETA2: It seems they are also not allowing people who have travelled there in the last 15 days regardless of nationality. But I still don’t understand how nationality and not travel makes someone more at risk of being a carrier.

RSBM
As the world focuses on coronavirus, a deadly flu has killed at least 10,000 Americans
And yet no calls to quarantine people with the flu. AND we have people aggressively trying to prevent people from getting the flu vaccine.

The numbers are the reason that folks cannot be quarantined by the governments as millions for flu, but this perhaps highlights to folks why to stay home sick and not pass around viruses. Right now, the are quarantining not to eradicate perhaps, but to slow it down so health care folks can prep. The CDC and WHO have been saying that for the last few days.

As to vaccines for flu, they do exist and many do not get (there is a thread here at WS about such iirc)

Anywhoooo, I have been on google scholar for the last two days (and @Gardener1850 is down the rabbit hole with youtubes with others) and I saw that there isn't a vaccine for ANY coronavirus to date that was used that I could find. (Updates abound re research now, this is a background articles summary)

Yes I’m trying to illustrate that our panic over this “exotic” virus is sort of silly based on commensurate death rates this season from the flu. I mean I realize they have to quarantine because they don’t know what the coronavirus can become. Its death rate can sky rocket and surpass the flu.

But what I meant about the flu virus is we have people that actively spread misinformation in an attempt to dissuade people from getting the flu vaccine each year. Or any vaccine. And how much do you want to bet some of these same people are flipping out about the coronavirus?

As we've seen on the threads, when the WHO/CDC/health officials come on board, they may be interviewing cabin mates that have travelled or are travelling with family.

My grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is that MSM is right now doing inflammatory remarks to spark stuff that we later understand through WHO and CDC and others, which then we look back and say "ahhhhhhhhhh, ok, that makes sense". The reason they may have asked him/her is that he was part of a group and they just wanted to clarify.

Not sure of your comment about non-Chinese who have travelled and not refusing to let them board. Don't understand what you're trying to relay, sorry. When interviewing in a group setting, they do small amounts vs. many... is that what you are referring to "isolating them in a herd". That is standard best practice... do in small groups.

As to your ETA #2, again not clear on what you are saying/asking. Perhaps the past day findings of the ship that went to 7 ports before 61 folks were affected comes into play as to their questions. Just not clear on what your comment means/asking/implies.

RL calls....

Re BBM
Why in the world would they temporarily hold the ones for screening in the Kitchens or Restaurants? Isnt that the most stupid thing we have ever heard.

We know the Virus can live on surfaces for days, so why in the world put suspected cases in an area where they could touch things that would then be literally fed to other passengers.

I cannot think of a more worse place to put them. I can think of a much better place. How about a small meeting room and then after they leave, seal the room off and let nobody else in there.

Common sense seems to have gone out the window in some of these stories. I guess some of the people trying to handle this are not trained and are probably somewhat panicking themselves so they are making terrible decisions in some cases. Good Grief.

I have never been on a cruise and can state that cruises definitely are not for me. I know many love them, and that’s fine. To each his own.

Even before this I had always considered cruise ships to be floating Petri dishes.

That being said, I am questioning some of the actions these affected cruise lines are taking now.

The passengers who are quarantined intheir rooms are receiving food, beverages, board games and exercise equipment from crew members. I think the chances are considerable that the virus could be spread by crew members making delivers to the rooms of the passengers.

“Are you concerned that China is covering up the full extent of the coronavirus?” a reporter asked Trump on the White House south lawn today.

"No, China’s working very hard. Late last night I had a very good talk with President Xi and mostly we talked about the coronavirus. They’re working really hard and I think they’re doing a very professional job. They’re in touch with … (the World Health Organization), CDC also."

Russian media hint at US coronavirus conspiracy

One of the wilder ideas aired by Vremya (a Russian news station) is that the presence of the word "corona", which means crown in both Latin and Russian, in the word coronavirus hints that Donald Trump is somehow involved. Apparently, this is because he used to preside over beauty pageants, handing the winners their crowns. In fact, scientists named the virus because of of its crown-like shape, but Vremya's presenter warns against rejecting the idea all too soon. "Utter nonsense, you'll say, and I'd agree with you, if it were not for what's in our correspondent's report," he says.

The subsequent video does admit the crown theory is a "strange construct", but uncritically presents an expert who says that the Chinese coronavirus strain has been artificially created, and that US intelligence agencies or American pharmaceutical companies are behind it.

Away from the TV screens, the coronavirus outbreak appears to be causing serious concern among Russian officials.

Rail and air traffic to China have been curtailed, and Russians evacuated from China have been quarantined for two weeks in a Siberian sanatorium.

A church in Moscow has even held a service to pray for salvation from the coronavirus.

Fear of the virus appears to reach all the way to the top. Russian daily Vedomosti reports that Kremlin has introduced temperature checks for those attending events with President Vladimir Putin, in what spokesman Dmitry Peskov has called a "precautionary measure".

That seems ridiculous.

61 coronavirus cases confirmed on Diamond Princess | Crew Center

Japan’s Ministry of Health has announced today an additional 41 people onboard Diamond Princes tested positive for Coronavirus, bringing the total numbers of infected to 61. Many ambulance vehicles lined up in front of the Diamond Princess to transport the patients for further medical treatment in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Shizuoka as the ship entered the third day in quarantine at the Port of Yokohama...

Why The World Cares More About The New Coronavirus Than The Flu

For flu one can roughly say that maybe 1 in 1,000 or less of infected people dies," says Christian Althaus, a computational epidemiologist at the University of Bern, Switzerland. "But for this new coronavirus it could well be about 1%."

In other words, a death rate that's about 10 times greater than the flu's.

...The trouble is that the flu is already too widespread. By contrast, this new coronavirus has only just started circulating in humans...”
