Jessica Connie-Sue Edwards, 30, of South Windsor and formerly of East Hartford, passed away tragically on Monday, May 10, 2021, in South Windsor. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on January 4, 1991, daughter of Milton and Hope (Douglas) Edwards, she was raised in Jamaica until the age of seven, when she migrated to the United States with her family and settled in Hartford. Jessica attended Hartford and East Hartford Public Schools and was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 2009. After high school she continued her education at Manchester Community College where she earned an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and most recently had just completed studies to be a respiratory therapist. Jessica’s drive to further her education and better herself was unparalleled. During her schooling, Jessica worked at the Aldi warehouse in South Windsor.
Jessica had a great sense of humor and always joked with her siblings and friends. She was a great person who always wanted to help others and looked for the good in others.

Besides her loving parents, Milton and Hope, she leaves to mourn her passing, her eight month old son, Jayden; her two siblings, Mario Edwards and his wife Nicole of Windsor and Yanique Edwards and her fiancé David Baxter of East Hartford; her half siblings, Karen, Jermaine, and Nneka Edwards all of Jamaica; four nephews, Zachary, Tyler, and Liam Edwards, and Braeden Baxter; her grandmothers, Jessie Barrett of East Hartford and Lurlyn Williams of Jamaica; a special uncle, Kenrick “Uncle Junior” Getfield of Ocala, FL; a special aunt, Juridine “Auntie Jer” Cole of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 6-9 p.m., with a service of remembrances and tributes at 7:30 p.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor.
A Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 9:30 a.m., at the Rehoboth Church of God, 1170 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the South Windsor Police Department, the Mayor of South Windsor Andrew Paterna, State Senator Saud Anwar, US Senator Christopher Murphy, the hundreds of friends, family, and caring members of the community, who volunteered their time, kept the family in their thoughts and prayers, cooked meals, and donated to support the family. Your efforts to help us find our daughter, sister, mother, and friend will never be forgotten...

Friends, family mourn Jessica Edwards

June 12
Around 200 people gathered Saturday morning at the Rehoboth Church of God in Bloomfield to celebrate the short life of Jessica Edwards, who speakers described as funny, courageous, and an amazing mother.

The guests gathered inside the church in socially distanced groups to listen to speakers and singers, as a live stream of the service was recorded for those watching elsewhere.

On Saturday, Edwards' father, Milton Edwards lamented that throughout her childhood, he had always been able to protect his daughter, but he couldn't protect her from Hutchinson.

Edward's brother, Mario Edwards, said his sister's death has been the most difficult experience his family has ever been through.

Bishop Jonathan Ramsey Jr said although Jessica's death is painful and tragic, it presents unique opportunities to address a few related issues.

First, her death is an opportunity to denounce and speak out against domestic violence in any form, Ramsey said. It's also an opportunity to highlight the importance of having good mental health, he said.

The third opportunity, he said, is to "learn to value life, and to value the people that God gives us in this life. Let's not take those relationships, those moments, those times that we have so lightly."

MURDER HEARING

DEFENDANT: Tahj H. Hutchinson, 24, formerly of the Cinnamon Springs condominium complex in South Windsor

LATEST: Judge finds enough evidence for trial on charge that Hutchinson murdered his wife, Jessica Edwards.

NEXT: Lengthy negotiations, with plea bargain or trial easily a year or more away

Article from March 2022

Tahj Hutchinson, who remains in custody at the Cheshire Correctional Institution on a $1.5 million bond on charges of murder, risk of injury to a child and tampering with physical evidence, was expected to appear before Judge Hope Seeley during a remote hearing at 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Seeley said the hearing was to give Hutchinson a chance to decide if he wanted to ask the court for a probable cause hearing, or to enter a plea for the charges.

The screen with Hutchinson’s name labeled at the bottom remained empty for most of the roughly 30-minute proceeding. Hutchinson never showed up. By 11:40 a.m., the judge asked the clerk to call the correctional institution to see what the hold up was.

Shortly before noon, a Department of Correction worker appeared on Hutchinson’s screen to give the judge an update, saying Hutchinson was aware of the court hearing.

Husband had a memory pop up with Jessica on Facebook yesterday so thought I would look into what's happening and couldn't find anything in the press. Dug into the CT judiciary search and found the below. Looks like a trial date coming up in December?

Mods please delete if this is the wrong format or it's not the right way to do it. I checked the rules and guides and couldn't find anything to say it wasn't!

Court date passed on 6th December 2023, entered a Not Guilty plea for all three charges. Pre-trial date set for 1st August
