A man who is accused of brutally beating a family member and her two young children with a baseball bat in Bridgeport on Wednesday morning appeared in court on Thursday and his bond has been set at $10 million.

One of the victims, a 6-year-old boy, is in critical condition, according to police.

The little boy’s 33-year-old mother and 4-year-old brother have been upgraded from critical to stable condition.

Court documents reveal disturbing details about what police said happened that led up to the arrest of 38-year-old Abdulrahim Sulaiman, of Bridgeport.

He declined to provide a full status update on the 6-year-old in court but said, “I will say to the court that I can disclose that the likelihood of survival of this individual is close to zero.”

Abdulrahim Sulaiman, charged with using a bat to brutally beat his wife & her sons, was arraigned for the 3rd time in less than a week—now for a 4th count of assaulting a public safety officer and a 2nd count of disorderly conduct for his alleged court behavior.

Thank you for the updated report @sds71 . ….. What a horrid case.

And not at all directed at anyone here….. but the defendant’s lawyer. And the statement made by that individual. SMH….. any added additional bail amount would be ‘purely academic’.

Wow…… that is a horrid statement to give here IMO. Particularly in light of what the victims seem to have suffered at his client’s hand? IMO nothing about what his client is accused of at this stage is what I would term ‘academic’. Still SMH. MOO

From your article:
When police spoke to the children’s mother, she told them that Sulaiman had been smoking angel dust and he had beaten her in the past.

She also told officers that he had threatened her with a gun and threatened to kill her and her children, according to the court records.

What a horrible, horrible crime. These poor, poor babies. Drugs are such a horrible, evil thing in our society. :(

prayers for Jathan Escobar, for his siblings and mama.

Family praying for miracle after 6-year-old allegedly beaten by stepfather declared brain dead

A 6-year-old who was attacked last week with a baseball bat in Bridgeport has died, according to police.

Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, who police said attacked the 6-year-old, their 4-year-old sibling and their mother, has now been charged with murder. His bond is set to $10 million, and he has faced additional charges after allegedly assaulting officers since his arrest.

The 6-year-old had been pronounced braindead after the attack. Their sibling and mother have been released from the hospital.

Rest in peace, little Jathan .
What a cute lil' bug he was, and such a happy grin. :(

The deranged man had an order of protection prohibiting him from contacting the woman and her children for a year that was signed by the judge on September 10 after months of harassment and threats.

According to Bridgeport police, Sulaiman attacked a 33-year-old woman and her two children, ages 4 and 6, Wednesday morning in a Main Street apartment.
The mother also reported that Sulaiman had previously threatened to kill her and the children with a gun, according to the report.

Question : From the 1st link : "...an order of protection......months of harassments and threats...".

2nd link : "... in a Main St. apartment... previously threatened to kill her ....".

As in, threatened to kill her that very day , or in the past ?

Had he broken into Jathan and his brother's mom's apartment ?
Or did she let him in after a promise of better behavior, etc. ?
I think it's a valid question.

Yes I know he attacked her as well, but had she given him too many chances on a promise of 'good behavior' ?
Was the perp's behavior ever 'good' ?

Sorry but single moms need to be so careful these days who they let into their homes; not undermining that this surviving mother is a victim.
I admit I fear for the surviving brother and hope this mom will make better choices in the future.
Maybe I'm seeing this too bleakly and with a negative assessment ?

Most moms wouldn't willingly put their kids in danger, sooo ... maybe the younger brother will be ok with her ?
Omo.

Some of the articles indicate that he was imbibing while inside the residence - this seems like an unfortunate case where, either due to lack of support or inability or misplaced attachment, the mother was not able to get away from this abuser.

It's shocking that the PO was ordered just over 2 weeks before this; although we know statistically, that would also be one of the most dangerous times to be near this man.

This poor mother will regret whatever judgement she made that led to the loss of dear Jathan for the rest of her life, not to mention the trauma she and the surviving 4yo will carry. Moo but having read some of the things he had already put her through, she has my deepest sympathies. It's really hard to know in the moment whether Choice A or B is more likely to lead to a violent, deranged, drug-addled abuser to attack you. Do you let them in and hope they calm down, or do you hope every time you exit your front door, they aren't there to "teach you a lesson"?

I 1000% understand the sentiment that women and single moms need to be cautious, especially for the sake of children. But the only person who bears fault for this tragedy is rightfully behind bars. omo

I hope this guys defense isn’t going to be some variation on the ‘insanity’ plea. Especially in light of all these attempts at arraignment and him going loco on police. His defense will try to whip out the old ‘insanity’ plea. Also I hope the mother don’t start the ‘He is a really good guy when he’s not on drugs’ stuff either. I am a firm believer that drugs just exacerbates the conditions people already have. So if you are evil in your heart then the drugs just brings that out more. As for ‘Angel Dust’ I’m sure the defense will have reams and reams of studies that say it makes you psychotic. This guy needs to be in prison forever and/or the DP. If he gets off on insanity plea he will be out in a year or less. I read a story the other day about a guy that had gotten off on the insanity plea and sent to an institution and was back out on the streets and killed again within a year. So it happens all the time.

MOO and speculation only.

Yes I understand what you're saying.
I still have questions.

My point was that did the mother know what he was capable of, and tried to think it would work out better next time ?
Jathan didn't get a 'next time'.

It sounds like there was a restraining order in place, so I'm wondering if he broke into their home (in which case she has my total sympathy & also she needs to show LE that there was a breaking and entering -- e.g., broken lock, shattered window, etc.) or did she allow him in when he was fairly sober; in which case I am sorry mainly for the two little kids, since they're helpless !

Sorry if I didn't clarify enough in my earlier comment.
Imo, a parent or caregiver is the first line of defense for innocent children.

There are domestic violence support safe houses out there, and a mother can take their kids and flee, sometimes the safe house employees will pick them up.
My coworker worked at a DV rescue facility, and the saddest part is that sometimes a woman with her babies or small children will actually call the abusive partner and have them come and get her; even after the employees have put themselves at risk to rescue her in the first place !
Sometimes even the violent 'familiar' is preferred to the unknown.

He seems unhinged and evil, but not insane.
Did he bring the angel dust with him or did he get it at the mother's house ?
Valid questions, moo.
In many cases, the main victims are the children.

The Bridgeport man accused of killing a 6y/o boy with a baseball bat was back in court where tensions ran high. Once suspect Abdulrahim Sulaiman saw the Jathan Escobar’s family, he began mouthing insults. Then it turned vocal with Jathan’s family yelling back.

Once the judge got things under control, Sulaiman pleaded not guilty to all charges from the Sept. 25 attack, which also injured Jathan’s four-year-old brother and his mother (Sulaiman’s wife). Among the charges is murder with special circumstances.
