Could the owl be one of your relatives?
LOL
Could be my uncle Oliver - he heard about the new baby and told me he wanted to go pay his respects. :floorlaugh:

They stopped now - but she's still awake.

Did I just see a second chick? I couldn't tell but it looked like there were 2 there - didn't it?

Mama just repositioned. The baby stuck its head out. Mama was moving the eggs and the baby around. Poor thing probably thought it was time to eat and mama said no, go back to sleep. :-)

You sound a wonderful teacher!!

aawww thank you so much :blushing:

Teaching is my calling. I just love it. Its not even like a job to me - its just what I do. How lucky to love what you do and have fun doing it?

I only saw one chick. I couldn't get a good look at the eggs though.
I thought I saw like a half of an egg with a lil chick popping out - but I never got another real good look. And I couldn't see if there were still 2 eggs, she moved them back too quick.

She was in a hurry to get the babies/eggs covered back up.:-)

Ok - since she's gone back to sleep for now, here's a question for your home schoolers.

How or what does an eagle smell? I mean, c'mon - she's laying right in front of a dead rabbit. Even though the air temperatures have been very cool - it still has to smell to high heaven. So, do they smell "meat" or "food" (maybe just the blood)? We know they have incredible eyesight but what about their sense of smell?

DH brought that up earlier and I thought it was an interesting question.

You are incredibly lucky to love your job.
My BIL and SIL are both teachers. They feel the same as you about teaching.

That's something we'll research on Monday. I don't want to get my kids out of bed at this hour. LOL

oh ok - so I guess that means they really can't smell "that smell" too much.

Mama eagle is all tucked in for the night.
I think I'll go get tucked in too. :-)
'Night!

niters peachy - I'm gonna hang in there for a while. At least until she does her next rotation - I wanna see!!!!! lol

morning... im lurking :) this cam is GREAT!! i have a lot of parrots - i really love birds... the way i have always understood the smell thing is that birds do not have a very good sense of smell and thats is mostly because they really dont have salivia - not like mammals do, they smell more thru their mouth by "collecting" the air into their mouth rather than smelling things thru the cere/nose holes... my birds eat dried hot peppers for a source of vitamin A and i couldnt understand how in the heck that didnt burn their mouths and its because their mouths are dry - if their mouths were wet like ours it would burn like hel !!

cant wait to see the next chick!! i just love birds and baby birds! this came makes me feel like im sitting in the nest with them - so very cool!!

I love birds, too! I have been enjoying this cam so much. We just lost our old Quaker parrot 3 days ago. This helps a little.
