I voted 'yes , but on a subconscious level. I can understand grief for the death of a loved one & trying desperately to go on with life.
I cannot imagine denial, then cover-up ,then proving what you know is true & wrong ,to be wrong & innocent. So much energy going into lies, & appearances, &hate & accusing other innocent people. How does she have any energy to grieve for the loss of that beautiful grandchild.?How much energy is left to say I wish I had guided my daughter better? What a world she has created for herself & her family.!!!

I'm certain that Cindy knows. She just won't let herself believe it. If Cindy believes it then she has lost Casey and Caylee, that's far too much for her to deal with.

This is a GREAT question and poll. Very interesting, but not too surprising.

...she knows and has known and believed it for a long time...she just won't let anyone else know she knows....

good call on the first part! the 'breathing' thing always bugged me.

as for the second part, page 9 includes the july 16th records for e-pass, not for june 16th, which was the day george gave the 'normal day/routine' info about.

Dangit, I always get hung up by that one. Mybad!

I voted 'yes'. She has known for a very long time. I don't believe she has ever been in denial. I believe she will do or say anything to try and get a NG verdict in Casey's trial.

I believe they all know but if they ever hope to get the truth out of Casey, they have to pretend to be behind her %100. (Their thinking, not mine!)

Do you think that CA knows KC killed Caylee?

Absolutely!

I think she has known it in her heart for a long time. She doesn't want to admit it out loud, but she knows.

IMO She has known since the car was retrieved, her comments like " Casey, what have you done? ", and to one of her co-workers ~ I don't know what I will do if Caylee is dead~ It is so sad that she has done nothing for Caylee, she IMO feels responsible and in my humble opinion she should feel that way as they all lived together and had to have been suspicious of Casey's day to day living. She chose to not do anything for 2 years, just lived the lie........Poor Caylee.

I voted "yes." I believe Cindy has known since day 32.

Up until July 16th when Casey was arrested, I think Cindy believed that Casey was withholding Caylee from her. She thought Casey was punishing her by not allowing her to see or talk to Caylee. This may all stem from the alleged fight between Cindy and Casey on June 15th.

On July 15th, Cindy located Casey at TL's apartment. Cindy demanded that Casey come home with her and to take her to Caylee immediately. When Casey balked, Cindy threatened to call the police if Casey continued to refuse to take her to Caylee. In those first two phone calls to 911, Cindy was using the police as leverage to make Casey do as she wanted.

Once they were at home, Cindy was outside and came inside to overhear Casey telling Lee that Caylee had been kidnapped 31 days prior. At that point, Cindy in a panic, said "what have you done" and "who took her?" Without further questioning of Casey, and without further thought, Cindy called 911 for the third time. This time Cindy was scared and in a panic. I think Cindy believed the "nanny kidnapped Caylee" story at this point.

The following day, July 16th, is when LE had Casey accompany them to the Sawgrass Apartments and to Casey's office at Universal Studios (that didn't exist). When George and Cindy learned Casey had been arrested and that LE had exposed Casey's story as a lie, among many other lies that were exposed, I believe it was then that they realized that Caylee was dead, and that Casey was responsible. At that point, George and Cindy went into cover-up mode.

My inlaws are a lot like the A family. Their kids can do no wrong, and if they did, it is justified, then everyone conveniently "forgets" about it, convincing themselves that it didn't happen. Ignore it long enough and it will go away. A nut bag can convince themselves of anything and then they go on to believe it. The apples don't rot far from the tree.

I think she does, but she's rationalized Caylee's murder as an accident and forgiven KC of it out of guilt for her role in "pushing KC too far". Imo CA believes what's done is done. We must move on now because the penalties that come with KC being held accountable are too much for CA to bear.
I'm with Seebra on this one. This case has been the most intriguing case that I have followed, between the players (real and made up) and the lies and the whys. And then there's Caylee . . . and all the tears that have been shed for a child who we don't even know, but definitely love. Justice will be served for Caylee, with or without CA's blessings.

In public with the memorial, we saw a carefully controlled Cindy. She knew she was on stage. What a contrast her persona is when she is angrily acting out. She does that in public too.

The rubbing of George and Lee in public is nauseating. She wants to look so nurturing, so caring and loving. I doubt she's so sweet to George behind the scenes. It must be humiliating for him.

If Cindy doesn't know or hasn't figured out and accepted the fact that Casey killed Caylee, well...that just can't be. She knows.
Let me add that she lied in her story (and it was a story) about being so happy when KC came to her to tell her she was pregnant. CA is a nurse (hello!). KC denied pregnancy to all, including her boyfriend JG, and chalked it up to female problems. You can't tell me that someone like CA wouldn't count the tampons used in that house. She knew that KC was on a crash course of lies and bad behaviors. I don't think she ever "knew" that KC would kill Caylee, but the thought probably crossed her mind and I say that because when she was on the last (I think) 911 call on 7/15/08, she told George "we lost her" and he asked who and she said "Caylee" and when she was being interviewed, she said "I lost my granddaughter." Are those the words of a grandmother whose granddaughter is "missing?"

And I want to finish reading the posts before I go back to Debs post which should have been entitled "The difference between denial and lying" or something like that. If you skipped her post because it was long, go back and read it. It's quite the post and kudos to Debs.

everyone in the family knows

they think they can change KC into a nice girl...if they have her home long enough..

what skerrrrrrrrrrrrres me is -

if she can kill her own daughter then she is capable of killing a perfect stanger and not ever giving it a second thought

its down right frightening

:Banane37:
It is possible that she was planning on killing her parents. She told people she was getting their house. Amy was supposed to move in with her. She told AL that they were moving out and then he could come spend as much time as he wanted there. How was she going to be explaining these lies? And think about it, who were the only people who would know that she didn't give Caylee to her (Caylee's) Dad's parents? She could have told her friends and boyfriend(s) this story and they wouldn't have anyone to ask about it. GA and CA would be dead (maybe Lee too although Lee said that there were things that they told each other that they would never tell anyone else) and there really doesn't seem to be any close relatives or family friends to ask. Done deal. Life goes on . Every day is a new day.

Debs' post has already been copied and pasted above so I won't copy it here.

It's hard to believe that anyone would be so cold and callous to their beautiful granddaughter's memory as to ignore how she died and go into "cover-up" mode for her murderer. It's easier to think that this is denial rather than cover-up. I am sure that I have seen this as denial but I forgot about the comparisons made early on in this case between the A's and Scott Peterson's parents and family. The Peterson's also chose to cover-up and lie on Scott's behalf. Funny how these people never look for the real murderer(s). Funny how they never really grieve for the ones who have died. Did anyone see T. Nieves on NG on Friday night, falling to tears about her beloved granddaughter, Haleigh? That's how grieving grandparents act. And . . . she is very respectful to the media and answers questions - all questions . . . to the best of her ability, even when her son and his girlfriend are being grilled and put down by the media. Why does she do this? She does it for Haleigh. Shame on the A's.

Don't forget LA's words to the detectives........."What did you do to her" I voted yes but on a sub. level.

I haven't read all pages of this thread so sorry if this has been asked.

Ok--What do you mean LA's words to detectives "What did you do to her"? I don't remember this. Can you explain. Thanks.

Oh and IMO yes CA knew KC killed Caylee. However with CA there is her public opinions (always proclaim KC innocent) and her private opinions (the truth-she knows KC killed her).

CA was outside, KC & LA were in her room, she had just told LA she hadn't seen Caylee in 31 days. He was trying to get more info from her, LA says that CA came back into the house, saw KC crying and the two of them whispering to each other. CA came (bust) into the room and said "what did you do? Why are you crying? What's going on?"

CA has known since the day her and GA picked up the car from the impound lot.

There was never anything resembling denial. Only behaviors that could be interpreted as denial. Since Cindy wrote that myspace message on July 3 which pronounces that Caylee is missing and taken away because of spite, she has been rewriting it for our minds. Cindy has known Caylee was gone. Two weeks and then some had gone by. Those two weeks and then some are now painted by Cindy as "bonding time"....and yet, there is that letter. It isn't denial. It is cover up. The post is out there, and so we'll just fiddledeedee it away. Where one would expect a denial to at least reflect acknowledgment of previous emotional turmoil, it is erased as never having happened and never to be discussed, rewritten as a more innocent and sweet event. Even faced with the version that Casey states the child was taken from her, Cindy tells the story of this "kidnapping" with the background of Casey and Caylee going off for bonding. It isn't denial. It is writing a story that ignores the ugly parts and paints everyone in rosy colors.

Caylee is last seen by someone independent of the family at the nursing home. After that, it is the family saying Caylee was with this person or that one, even on the 16th of June. Cindy says they had a normal night and the next morning, Casey and Caylee were in the bedroom "breathing." Why would someone in denial make a statement relevant to breathing or not breathing? Denial doesn't need qualifiers like this. These details, then, are not denial. They are cover up.
George says she gave him a hug and kiss and left with Casey. He gives full details of what they're wearing. He talks of "normal" and fails to mention that he was not home that morning for a time, getting home shortly before noon.(pg. 9) That isn't denial and it isn't forgetfulness. It is cover up.

Denial suggests an element of innocence, and covering up whatever is not anywhere in the neighborhood close to innocence. Cindy was asked on the stand about whether she knew that George had a judgment against him in excess of $12,000. One of two scenarios happened in the seconds before she answered. She either had just heard one more piece of devastating news for the first time, or she already knew it. What she said was "No, I don't know about that." Either way, there is cover up. George has lied to his wife, or Cindy has just lied to a court. There is no other option.

That is all we have gotten since that 911 call (which Cindy dismisses now with these words "Forget about the 911 call, I know what I said. The 911 call doesn't matter." It is not denial. It is cover up. Whether it is covering up for their own past behaviors which would suggest that these people are not the Ward and June Cleaver of Hopespring Drive or whether it is covering up the lies her daughter told, it is not denial. It is lies, more lies, and covering up lies. But the worst part of it all, and where the injustice comes in, is that they cover up the truth. They lie about the truth. They make the truth look worse than improbable. They laugh it off as ridiculous. They create candy floss stories that only they believe will hold up in the rain because that is what they want everyone else to believe, not because they themselves believe in the stories but because they know the truth that they won't. That isn't denial. That isn't protecting their ego's from the harsh light of media. They in fact did this IN the media. They used the very forum they believe caused the "rain" and seeded the clouds with their lies! They feel betrayed because others would dare point out that they lied. The excuse that they are going through unmentionable stress and grief with this situation in fact becomes one of the primary seeds they use. I have said this from the very beginning. There is no room for manipulation in the search for the truth of what happened to Caylee Marie. I will not have my emotions manipulated to feel sorry for people who are deliberately lying in order to cover up the truth.

And as I have said before, they have made their bed, now they can LIE in it.

Wonderful, logical, terrifically clear and well reasoned post. One tiny question: The page 9 to which you referred... Which page 9? TIA

At most Cindy maybe wonders deep down if it might have been an accident. I don't think at this point that she is capable of believing Casey murdered Caylee intentionally and she may never be capable of it. Denial can be a very powerful thing going on in someone's head, I think Lee and Cindy are both in deep denial and aren't "fighting" it or working through it because they so desperately want/need to believe any other scenario. It isn't because they didn't/don't love Caylee with all their hearts, it because they did that they can't/won't let their minds accept what Casey did. I have had experience with denial on a smaller scale and absolutely could not make my mind except what was right in front of my eyes and abundantly obvious to everyone else. I truly did not believe it. Sometimes the mind can do amazing things to protect itself.

With much respect for your perceptions, I doubt that CA and you have much in common. I wasn't there and can't know but I'm willing to bet that when in that deep state of denial you did not take actions and make statements that contradicted your belief in things that were obviously false to others. As debs so eloquently wrote, people in denial believe or disbelieve certain things and their actions and words will match those erroneous, but deeply held through denial, beliefs.

In other words, if you actually believe something, there is no need to lie about it or attempt to change things about the situation because you expect the "truth" will bear out your belief. Did you deliberately lie to others about facts that conflicted with your false beliefs? Did you attempt to manipulate others, facts and/or events to coincide with what you wanted to believe? I don't mean in your own mind to maintain your state of denial but to convince others that whatever was happening wasn't or that whatever wasn't happening was? I doubt it.
