Tests ordered to see if items found during search are related to Dylan Redwine disappearance
The La Plata County Sheriff's Office is investigating a number of items found during a search related to the disappearance of Dylan Redwine of Monument.
Over five days, searchers found a "variety of items" along a 12 mile stretch of Middle Mountain Road, according to sheriff's spokesman Dan Bender. Interviews and laboratory testing will determine if anything of the items are pertinent to the ongoing Redwine investigation.

Searches not based on new information or tips
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office conducted several days of searches in the area of Middle Mountain for clues related to the November 2012 disappearance of then 13-year-old Dylan Redwine.
A variety of items were collected during five days of searching along 12 miles of Middle Mountain USFS Road.
Search teams negotiated steep drainages with extensive ground cover as they looked for clues. Sectors were treated as possible crime scenes. At times the searchers were almost shoulder to shoulder as they moved up and down the difficult terrain.

For reference, attached is a map of the area I believe LE was based out of for the search. By looking at the pictures on FMDR (facebook), I came up with this area using the topological features I could identify.

MiddleMtnMarksHouse shows where Dylan disappeared from in relation to Middle Mtn. I circled the area I believe LE's base was at.

MiddleMtnSearch is more zoomed in on the circle and MiddleMtnSearch zoomed in, is a better view of that area off the road.

MarksHouseToMiddleMtn shows the route you would have to take by car to get from one point to the other.

MarksHouseToMiddleMtnZoomed is the area zoomed in.

Human Remains Identified As Dylan Redwine
The search for Dylan Redwine is over but the details of what happened when he went missing remains a mystery.
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday afternoon that human remains found have been identified as that of the missing teenager.

Bender said the subdivision where Dylan was staying with his father is visible from Middle Mountain across the valley.
“We’re pursuing this as a criminal investigation and not an accident,” said Bender.

I am adding this here, so we don't have to go through a bunch of pages later if anyone needs to reference this:

Some interesting info. You have to do some looking, but the first link references the second link. The second link talks about the Vallecito Crags off of Middle Mountain Rd. The first link says there are two gates, the lower gate being .5 to .75 miles past the 5 mile marker. Picture of gate locations at third link.

"Talked to the green pants over at the forest service and they said upper gate will stay closed until June 1st. Lower gate, May 1st. I believe mile marker #,5 as indicated in the "Getting There" section of the Vallecito Crag page, is between half and three quarters of a mile past the lower gate. "

"Drive up Middle Mountain road a little ways past the 5 mile marker and park at switchback."

UNM bone expert comments on Dylan Redwine investigation
Dr. Heather Edgar draws conclusions from similar cases
UPDATED 8:08 AM MDT Jul 03, 2013

Snipped:

Dr. Heather Edgar, curator of human osteology at Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, is not one of the investigators working on the Dylan Redwine case, but she has worked on a handful of cases that share similarities.

and

Edgar thinks it is very likely that wherever Dylan's remains were found was not the location where he was killed.
