If he was asymptomatic when flying (and they do scan for fever leaving Liberia), then chances are extremely low that he would transmit virus on the plane, in the toilet, etc. Not only was he not vomiting, defecating uncontrollably, bleeding, etc, but the amount of virus in his sweat, mucus, urine, etc would be far lower at that stage of the disease than at later stages.

And this is basically house arrest . So if you were in contact with this guy and felt ok, and did not want to be under house arrest, would you tell authorities you had contact with him? Fair question.

'' His four closest family members are now under state order to remain isolated in their home.

The public health control order was needed to legally ensure compliance. It was hand-delivered Wednesday night.'''

Dallas Sheriff's officers are at the scene to make sure no one goes in or out of the family's apartment.

Has anyone here who is in a panic about this read anytjing at all about how Ebola was contained in Nigeria? Does anyone honestly think we cannot do the same here?

When you are a facility that is able to test for ebola, but you let the guy leave with a prescription of antibiotics, you are not gaining my confidence that it can be contained here.

When that same man puts children's lives at risk, because the hospital didn't intake him, and those children return to densely populated schools, you are not gaining my confidence it can be contained here.

When you only have a handful of hospitals in the US prepared for the proper treatment, containment and trash associated with the virus, you are not gaining my confidence it can be contained here.

When you have a nurse in Dallas being quoted saying this https://twitter.com/NPRinskeep/status/517647218061225984, you are not gaining my confidence it can be contained here.

Mm

We would need to know when he became symptomatic. I really don't think this man snuck into the US to get treatment. I think I read symptoms start and rapidly progress to debilitating the patient others may needlessly die because the hospital sent him back home with antibiotics which are completely ineffective in treating viruses.

He's lives in the middle of a major Ebola outbreak. Was around 2 relatives? who died from it, and he thinks " Oh I'll go visit my sissy in the good ole USA" He knew exactly what he was doing comming here. If he does recover he needs to be arrested. He knew he was putting anyone he came into contact with at risk. Selfish, shameful person.

Consider the number of people flying into the U.S. every day. They may have never been to an infected area. it is possible that one or more of those travelers was in the presence of an Ebola infected individual and that infected person did not travel to the U.S. Should all international travel to the U.S. be stopped?

I think if he did what you are describing, sneaked into the U.S. for treatment, I would expect the majority of US citizens to do the same if in his shoes. This hysteria is just ridiculous!

OMG you are right !!!!! I left home an hour ago and on fox they were sticking with the 18 ....... oh C#@@@#%!!!!!!!

I knew that was wrong!!!!!! my hubby says no more starbucks , no cabs, etc!!!!! (lots of liberian Cab drivers here)

Stay safe....thinking of all the Texans here.

So you're saying that the US cannot do as well a job of containing this as Nigeria has, then?

Has any effort been made to treat his relatives that he was sharing quarters with for 4 days of being symptomatic? All I have read is that they are quarantined in their apartment. So presumably they are not yet symptomatic..........but what is CDC waiting for? That apartment is contaminated! JMO

You know, human nature is human nature. The will to survive is strong and can compel even the most level headed to do things they normally wouldn't do. I'm not sure we can go around arresting everyone who acts out of panic and fear for their lives. Jails would fill up pretty darn fast.

What are they supposed to treat them for if they are not showing symptoms? Further, what are they supposed to treat them *with*?

In case you are not aware, there is no treatment for Ebola. There is a preventative vaccine in production but it is not a treatment. Only symptoms can be treated. Like the common cold, it's a virus and cannot be treated.

They're out of zmapp so I'd like to know what they are treating them with also..
My kids are there in Dallas their dad's in hospice and yea I'm worried.. They have to go out to get food etc.. So I guess I'm more stressed about this than I should be but honestly it's a big deal.
Sorry if I've offended you in any way I'm having trouble coping right now.

I'm going to stay in the ocean till this stuff is contained...........

Anything you touch may be infected. Are you no longer going to buy food and necessities?

Good hand washing is the number one prevention of infection.
