FoxNews just said people were concerned bc there were 2 men that weren't sitting by one another but were speaking Arabic back & forth. The airplane was bound for Chicago.

Fox New is reporting the airplane at Logan was held up and evacuated because of concerns of marathoners returning home due to two Arabic speaking passengers on board that they felt were suspicious.

Oh god. I really, really hate to hear things like that. I know everyone is on edge, but lets hope that they had more reason to be suspicious than just two dudes speaking their native language. :(

Talking head on CNN likened these bombs to the ones that Eric Rudolph made (Olympic Park bomber).

Same here. I feel bad esp. If they have nothing to do with anything. These days it's nearly impossible to get seats near your fellow companions.

I don't have any polite response for this.

Imvho - lie. I think they're trying to keep control bc they don't want Americans living in fear of another 9/11, especially considering the NK situation at the moment.

That makes no sense. If they didn't want people to live in fear they wouldn't have told Bostonians to stay home and not gather in large groups - that the streets were not safe.

Two bombs or 7 - little difference at this point. We already lost too many and had a beautiful experience turned into one filled with terror.

Further, if there were 7 devices, the government would need to get as much info out there as possible about each location and what the devices looked like, so it could gather as much witness info as possible.

So are we talking pipe bombs packed with ball bearings and such?

Not a pipe bomb, per se. A pipe bomb is basically a water or gas pipe, filled with explosives, with a detonator (blasting cap type thing) in the center, and closed tightly at both ends. One end has a small hole for the fuse to run to the blasting cap (probably electric wire tied to a cell phone).

What makes the bomb have such a force is a lot of explosive packed into a tiny space. If you actually start putting shrapnel into the pipe, you cut down on the amount of explosives (possibly enough that it won't do too much damage).

You can however, take the same amount of explosive, in the same area, and surround it with shrapnel. It blows with the same force and propels the shrapnel. You can put a pipe bomb in the center, but there are more effective ways to contain the explosive. And yes, a backpack could be used.

The thing is, by introducing the shrapnel, you need a larger and heavier device, an explosive at the core and shrapnel surrounding it. Because of that, it might be easier to see the person planting it, e.g. leaving a backpack containing all of that, at the explosion site.

You can buy the book on how to do it, TM 31-210, for less than $10. You can even get it in CD-ROM format.

President Obama: "This was a heinous and cowardly act....the FBI is investigating it as an act of terrorism. What we don't know: who carried out this attack, or why"...."We are at the beginning of our investigation. We will find who harmed our citizens, and we will bring them to justice."

Not if they were already contained &/or dismantled. Imo backtracking to prevent political fallout & contain the situation the best they can. Literally, jmo.
