Just at DCF facilities and Children's.
I think it is appropriate to be uneasy about this case. I stand firm in the belief that unless a judge and a case manager have a specialist degree in metabolic disease, it seems unlikely that they have total confidence in their knowledge of the medical aspects of this case. It seems possible that they err on the side of caution and it also seems possible that the reverence people have regarding Children's Hospital is influencing the outcome. This is purely my opinion. I don't believe that anyone will ever know the complete truth of what happened here and the one who pays the price is Justina. She may never have any idea herself what happened. If and when she is returned home, I hope her parents have full access to complete and accurate files detailing all of the treatment she has received to date. I also believe that there needs to be a complete and accurate review of every aspect from the day she was taken into custody to the day she is returned home. Including the price tag of what it cost the state and ultimately whether or not her removal from care was warranted at all. The state has a fantastic scapegoat in Olga. It would surprise me if it all lands in her lap.
:moo:
I have to believe that, like in any other legal case, when the court needs/wants medical information, it hears testimony from various doctors. A judge, a lawyer, or a jury, don't need to be experts in mitochondrial disease, or any other area of medicine - it just needs to hear various opinions from all parties involved.
I do think there is a reverence for Children's, but it is partially well deserved (I have mentioned my own experience with them way back in the thread, and know several family members and friends who have experience there too), and I don't think it is to the point where so many different entities - MA DCF, the Guardian Ad Litem, CT DCF, the personnel at the Framingham facility, etc, would all be somehow blinded by its reputation to the point where they would not speak up if something sinister were going on.
I do believe there is a lot more to this case than is known in the press. That the various fringe hangers-on are using this to push their own agendas, and using the fact that the doctors et al cannot divulge information to their advantage. The histrionics and circuses are surely NOT HEALTHY for Justina - even if one believes the conversion disorder dx is wrong, and that she does indeed have mito. She has seen a mental health practitioner in the past for depression, and certainly she is under stress now.
The plan just revealed is so innocuous that, again, even if DCF/judge/BCH/etc are all wrong and have been all along, I cannot imagine the family not saying "ok, close enough, we only have to see a counselor, visit Justina, etc, and then we get her home. We can deal with our case against the state once she is home". Yet they've done just the opposite. I cannot fathom how, if I thought my child was being "tortured" and "abused" (their words), sabotaging the easiest and fastest way yet to get her home.
And that's not even going down the rabbit hole of hate groups attaching themselves to this case... It's completely bizarre.
