Family wants to keep life support for girl brain dead after tonsil surgery #5

I'm former SDA, and my Great Aunt was at one point the Associate Dean for the School of Nursing at Loma Linda. Both my Grandparents were both RNs (Grandpa was an anesthetist) as well. Having a general knowledge of their views about medicine and medical policy if they were still alive they would likely find this to be obscene. I doubt that Loma Linda would dare risk their reputation over this either. I'd be beyond shocked if they were. :twocents:

I didn't remember which religion Loma Linda was associated with, and I hope I made it clear that I had considered it as a receiving facility for possible research on brain dead but cardiac- functioning pediatrics.

I cited the baboon heart transplant as an example of the pioneering and experimental work they have done. Both Baby Fae and Jahi had no chance of recovery. It was experimental.

Absolutely no disrespect was meant to Seventh Day Adventists or any other religion, and it is not my intent to debate or discuss religion in regard to an innocent child ( child's body, if it is more correct) which is currently sadly caught up in " the system" and a host of delusional family members.

Interesting info!

Not surprised if Uncle Omari is not spending time with Jahi but instead making the rounds in LA.

If she is a 12 hrs drive from Oakland then that puts her near San Diego area.

I live in Los Angeles, drive by the CNN headquarters here almost on a daily.

Piers does live out here, so I am sure *SOME of the taping is here. Why they say NY is beyond me, and it's speculation.

If Omari was on, I have little doubt it could be because of the Turner broadcasting in Los Angeles.

I remembered the work with infant hearts and wondered if there might be a pediatric cardiologist or other specialist who wanted to study what happens to a brain dead body on artificial life support over a long period of time ( relatively speaking, long period of time), or otherwise would take her?

The problem there is that NW is seeking someone who will help her "recover", and I don't think that she would let her daughter become a guinea pig.

Also, saving a life with controversial methods is far different than taking in a 3.5 week old dead body just to see what the heck happens.

Agendas aside.

Also respectfully. Why would it matter what a whole lot of people felt ? Does that supercede her parents wishes?

Respectfully, the Laws supercede their wishes, and they obviously wanted a whole lot of people in their business with their media campaign

I have already posted a reply to the comment about my post and I am not going to debate mis-stated opinions.

I know that medical research DOES depend upon cadavers for many reasons.
I never said anything about recovery. Not one word.

I'm former for a reason, so no offense taken by me. ;)

Also the family has injected religion into this themselves by taking this to court claiming CHO is (was) impeding their religious rights by wanting to turn off the vent:facepalm:.

Should everyone have the right to keep their deceased family members above ground and hooked up to machines until the body completely disintegrates? It seems to me that if one family should have this right, everyone should. Who will pay for artificially sustaining the bodies?

But mother obviously doesn't believe her daughter is a cadaver.
So I really don't think she would agree to any sort of research done on her daughter.

It seemed to me it was a religious argument. Not my choice ,it was Jahi's parents choice. I hope that it wasn't motivated by anything other than the belief she was still alive because of her heartbeat.

Just trying to get to the essence...so it's a religious belief that one should be able to choose to watch their child's dead body molder for weeks, months, years -- however long it takes, and that should be socially/legally acceptable? No snark, is that the argument? If the answer is yes, there are a lot more issues raised. But I'd like to start at the beginning.

I think it's too late for that. The situation today is that a regular teenager died due to post-surgical complications a months ago, and all sorts of strange things are going on with her body.

OK, I think there is a disconnect here. Maybe I can explain.

I am not suggesting that the body be cut on or anything of the sort.

However, in this day and age, it is ENTIRELY possible that there are practicing Pediatric Cardiologists and other Pediatric specialists who have never seen a person ( a body) with a long- standing brainstem death. It is RARE, hence, the reason Jahi is even a topic of conversation.

I absolutely do believe, based upon my experience, that the observation of her cardiac output, heart rate, rhythm, and also the brain scans from first one to present, would be a part of teaching younger doctors what happens after brain death in a child on life support.

RSBM: I don't know anything about what hospitals you are discussing, but I believe NW is easily led at this point.
