"MIAMI – The Broward Sheriff's Office released surveillance footage Wednesday afternoon showing the outside of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School immediately after the February 14 shooting which left 17 people dead. CBS Miami reports the footage primarily showed law enforcement's response to the shooting.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's Office said in an email, "In accordance with the rulings by the trial court and the Fourth District Court of Appeals of the State of Florida, certain additional exterior video from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14 is being released.

Media requested external video showing the law enforcement response to building 12. The courts agreed with the media and ordered the release of additional videos, redacted so as to not show any students."..."

"...The now 68-year-old Thomas was convicted of manslaughter in 1985. Some jurors said they convicted him of manslaughter, not murder, because Thomas' heavy cocaine use was a factor in the crimes.

State law capped Thomas' sentence at 50 years. Prison officials said that with time off for good behavior, he was eligible for release after serving two-thirds of that time...."

He's a mass murderer who got released. 10 people murdered and he is now freely walking the streets.
 
I’m surprised his BM had the boys in her 40s. For some reason I thought she was young when she had them.

So BMs drug purchases will be brought up in court, ok I get that. But were the boys born with drugs in their system? My best friend is adopted and spent the first few months of her life in the hospital withdrawing from crack bc her BM used during pregnancy. I don’t remember if it’s been stated in the past that NC was born with drugs in his system, does anyone recall?

I don't think so. Regardless, if she was smoking crack while pregnant with him, it very likely damaged him in one way or another. I'm not a professional but I've done some research. When pregnant mothers use drugs (crack, cocaine, meth, tobacco, alcohol, etc.), they can cross the placenta and reach the fetus, impacting it in some way. Typically mothers who do this, also have other bad habits so it's hard to determine what effect each individual drug has on the fetus... My personal opinion is that if an expecting mother smokes crack while pregnant, the development of the child is at risk, and the impacts last a lifetime. Same with alcohol, meth, etc.
 
CARIIS- His biological mother? I think she is still alive. Nothing about her in the latest articles state that she is deceased, so I guess we have to assume she is still living???

"...In 2012, researchers at Stanford University began compiling a database listing every mass shooting in America since 1966, creating a single repository for as many reports of mass-shooting events as they could collect online.


Cross-checking, where possible, with individual prison rosters, I found that there were around 50 mass shooters still languishing in prisons across the US. I sent letters to each of them asking them that same question: what could have stopped you doing what you did?

Twelve shooters responded....

In 2013, Congress defined mass killing as three or more murders in a single incident, but definitions of mass shootings differ. The Washington Post, which publishes a mass-shootings tracker, defines it as four or more people killed by a lone shooter. It excludes incidents tied to gang disputes, robberies or those that take place exclusively in private homes. The FBI doesn’t officially define mass shootings, but in the Eighties it established “mass murder” as four or more victims killed in one event in one location. The definition of a mass shooting used for the Stanford database is much broader: three or more shooting victims, not including the shooter himself. It can’t be related to gang violence, drugs or organised crime, but there doesn’t have to be a single fatality.

Including shootings where nobody dies is interesting and I decided to use this definition as well for the following reason: if someone shoots up their school with a bolt-action hunting rifle, injures ten students with glass and shrapnel, but no one dies, does that count as a mass shooting? I think most people would agree that it does. That is, after all, exactly what Chad Escobedo did in April 2007....

Perhaps, in some small way, it’s comforting to note that many of the mass shooters I interviewed or corresponded with indicated that there were warning signs before they embarked on their rampages, that their decision to kill didn’t happen in a vacuum. Perhaps, in addition to making it harder to get hold of weapons, we need to get better at spotting the signs...."

Parkland school shooter's lawyers ask judge to protect his medical privacy

"Someone violated Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer’s order to protect the private medical records of Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz, and his lawyers argued in court Wednesday that it wasn’t them....

Such a release of information should have required a court order, said defense lawyer Melisa McNeill.

Cruz’s lawyers were in court Wednesday asking Scherer to hold a hearing to determine who released the information — it could only have been the State Attorney’s Office or the Broward Sheriff’s Office, McNeill said. Scherer should then decide whether anyone should be held in contempt for violating the order, she said....

Scherer ordered both sides to start taking depositions — witness interviews — as soon as possible. The judge said she wanted 25 depositions conducted or at least scheduled by Nov. 15, with another 25 completed by the end of the year."

"FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Lawyers for Parkland school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz told a judge Wednesday they want to interview potentially hundreds of witnesses that prosecutors have placed off limits in the massacre that killed 17 people

The Cruz lawyers asked Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer to allow additional interviews of some of more than 450 secondary witnesses rather than relying on written statements or other documents from prosecutors. Court documents show these witnesses appear to have minimal involvement in the case, but Cruz's attorneys want greater access to many of them...."

"DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - It was a powerful premiere for members of the Parkland community who attended a private screening of a documentary about the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The screening of “Parkland: Inside Building 12” was held at the Ridge Cinema in Davie, Friday night.

The film’s director, Charlie Minn, said some of the subjects he interviewed were on hand.

“Tonight we’re having a private screening for people that were in the film. Victims’ parents, students, teachers,” he said.

The documentary, clocking in at nearly two hours, takes viewers back to the events of Feb. 14, when a gunman opened fire on the campus....

Paragon Theaters, the company that owns the Ridge Cinema, said they are going to donate the proceeds from the documentary, which is scheduled to open Oct. 26, to a local charity that assists victims of the shooting."
