On June 5, Laurie Adams of Winter Springs allegedly shot Adel Tawfeek, 51, in the head. A Seminole County grand jury indicted her on one count of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm.

"According to police, Adams admitted shooting Tawfeek over an argument about the care of their son. Investigators say that Tawfeek returned home at around 11:30 p.m. on June 4 and found that their son had soiled himself. Adams allegedly told police that after she cleaned the child and put him to bed, Tawfeek yelled at her and assaulted her." She allegedly told police that she took a few minutes to calm down, went to Tawfeek's bedroom closet to retrieve and load a gun, then found him smoking on the porch and shot him in the head. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Just wow! She told her mom days earlier that she'd
like her to be the son's caretaker if anything happened. Maybe premeditated? Looks like a family overwhelmed and who took different approaches to caring for a child with a disability. Now he doesn't have either parent.

Could be, but could also be a coincidence; I imagine thoughts of who will care for their special needs children are pretty common for such parents. If I were on a jury, it wouldn't mean much to me.

Alternatively, it could also be taken that she feared for her safety, and thought she might be harmed. Without many details, I'm inferring there is probably more to this than this one dispute. It's not really clear the nature of their relationship, either--the home is referred to multiple times as Tawfeek's, but she knew where the gun was, and she was there with their child at night without him. And, from Police: Woman accused of shooting, killing the father of her child after argument:
Investigators said domestic violence cases are always tough because things at times simmer and grow larger. They suggest reaching out before things get so out of hand.

"Call us. You know we're there. There are times people might go to jail, but it's better to go to jail due to violence between two people than doing this and now being charged with murder," Seely said.

[...]

"She appears to have been troubled, so we're just waiting to see how the court system is going to work on her decision," Seely said.
