*I‘m heartbroken. I’ve thought of them so much trying to imagine their fear at being lost…

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — An elderly Hernando County couple who were reported missingas Hurricane Idalia barrelled toward Florida, bringing dangerous storm surge to the Tampa Bay area, have been found dead.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office said Albert and Cynthia Allen were found Thursday morning dead inside their car off Powell Road in Brooksville. It appears they had crashed into the woods nearby.

wow, that is quite the crash - not just rolled into a tree, must have had some speed going, and hard to see from the road it appears... so sad... Maybe them being together will bring some solace to their loved ones but it is still incredibly sad. At least neither of them are in pain or suffering now.

A Florida couple reported missing Aug. 29 apparently died in a car crash that went undiscovered for nearly two days, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

The bodies of Albert Allen, 76, and Cynthia Allen, 73, were found Thursday, Aug. 31, in a minivan along Powell Road near Brooksville, officials said in a news release. Brooksville is about 50 miles north of Tampa.

Photos show the heavily damaged van was found in a densely wooded area, and could not be easily seen from the road.

“The vehicle appeared to have been involved in a single-vehicle accident,” officials said. “The Florida Highway Patrol is in the process of conducting an investigation into the cause.”

Investigators did not reveal how the vehicle was located, but it was reported on Aug. 30 that the couple’s cellphone “pinged within a 3-mile radius of Hernando Oaks, off U.S. 41 in Brooksville.”

Two-lane Powell Road is about 6 miles south of the couple’s home in Brooksville. It travels largely through farm fields and wooded areas, maps show

I wonder if the hurricane scared them and in their haste to evacuate, the driver lost control. Such a sad ending.
