this article says that RH woke up a little bit before 7 to a strange smell coming from the kitchen; that is the description I remember reading in all the articles that mentioned the oil.

this is also an article that says RH tried reaching out to JGT initially & he didn't answer right away..

I would really like more statements from the lawyer.

it's been a long weekend without any updates.

A strange smell (if the burners were on high as indicated) would mean the oil was only on the stove for a short time. Not the 3 some hours that was previously posted. I'm assuming a strange smell....just MO being a foodie...means the oil was on for less than one hour. How could that happen when he was in Okechobee earlier that morning according to his cell phone ping? I have no doubt that he saw her that night but he was long gone before there was a smell in the house IMO.

Is it confirmed that there are 6 burners on the stove? This is unusual!

Yes. This is OUTRAGEOUS. I care so little about how the kidnapper's gf describes Diana (obsessed, infatuated, whatever). It all seems to minimize what this actually is. It's terribly upsetting. The people in this thread, and this entire case, have really shed a light for me on the stigma re: child molestation. Even the damn authorities seem to indicate they felt she went willingly and therfore was a runaway. Outfreakingrageous.

victim blaming at its finest. Infuriates me

The oddest thing about this case is the pan of oil on the stove. The stepdad said mom found all the burners on (maybe just a translation loss) but first why turn all the burners on? And why oil in a pan? It takes a pretty long time for oil to get to a boiling point and actually cause a fire and if there were not combustible materials close the fire would be contained to the pan. It did not sound like the mom woke up to a fire just oil in a pan; burners on. Was the oil boiling? Was it on fire? Or not? This would give a good timeline to when the oil was actually placed on the stove. He had to have been in the home. I have a 10 y/o who could not pull this off alone unless she was already shown how to do it. And where was the oil from? Was there a pan not washed the night before? Did someone go into the cabinet and get oil? All very odd.

above bbm: In the video that the person from a local radio station did (I don't have the link offhand but it's in this thread or the last one) the stepfather talked about that. He said RH was going to make dinner the night before but had changed her mind and left the pan there.

There was another video, more recent, posted in this thread where RH was talking about the oil on the stove and the burners turned on. It zoomed in briefly on the back panel of the stove and the burner knobs and they were blackened. I'm not sure if someone has scrubbed the stove with an SOS pad and perhaps damaged it a bit, or if that was smoke residue. If it was smoke residue I think they were incredibly lucky it didn't catch fire and spread.

ETA: Here's a link with still shots taken from that video (thank you staywoke!)

very new! not sure of an easier way to post photos. these are taken from a fox video off of YouTube that was recently shared by one of the great members here; I had not previously seen it either. but yes, 6 burners.

VERY interesting!

Here is the Safety Data Sheet for Mazola corn oil, as shown on the counter top next to the stove. The flash point is listed to be 482* F.

I can appreciate that although I always use new. BUT....how long was it there for with flame? I'm sure investigators know. That can change the timeline significantly and can determine the possible time someone left the house. Not likely a 9 y/o is inclined to set her family on fire. (Although I would not be shocked). He was only in the area for a 3-4 hour period of time before he left for Okechobee. Seems likely after several hours of a pan of oil being hot that it would have been boiling or something(never mentioned) unless the pan was placed under flame much later than when he was actually in the area.

This is the main thing that keeps me from being sold on any one theory, at this point. His phone being in the area from 12-3 makes sense. Her being gone between 2am and 7am makes sense. All 6 burners on high with oil on the stove for longer than 30 minutes does not make sense!

I dont think anything is lost in translation here. Here are the things that were stated (I havent checked but maybe that awesome scribd timeline with the links attached has it noted)
- mother said in that video that we have been discussing that ALL of the burners were on high. All 6. She shows the pot of oil. It does not look burned or cooked in. It looks fresh. She found this when she got up around 7 that morning and smelled it.
- Stepfather said in one of his very first interviews that there was oil on the stove. He said that the night before, mom was going to cook. He suggested that they would eat elsewhere (I dont remember this detail- the party? out to eat? neighborhood cookput? it was something like that). He said she took the pan off the stove and set it to the side on the counter. He said the next morning, they woke to all the burners being on high, with that pot of oil that was sitting off to the side now on the burners.

The oil is one of the details that make this strange. Did Jorge take her early and either come back or have someone else come back when it was close to wakeup time? Like maybe he left his phone somewhere and came back? That doesnt seem plausible, to me. Did he wait to leave with her until close to 7am? There is no way that all burners and oil was on since before 6. And that is giving it a long time.

No I don't buy that explanation. If you watch the same video I seen its an older stove, and its really dirty. Reference the attached video at 1:55 - 2:01. This isn't a new stove in my opinion.

It looks dirty due to fingerprint dust. I'm sure they have it everywhere and on every surface a person would touch. It was like that when crime scene folks had to analyze my aunt's murder scene and the scene of my rape. They leave a big mess.

Y'all----- the stove burners are 100% settled! Staywoke posted a great picture in the quote above. You can see from the dots above the knobs that there are 5 dots. The bottom right burner has 2 burners. You can turn on just the inner one or both for a larger and VERY HOT surface area. There are 6 burners. All of them (5 knobs) were said to be on high, per Rita (mom).

Where's Diana?
This is getting more and more depressing...

Absolutely. After a crime against me that occurred in my car, it was ruined because of finger print dusting. I had white interior, and the dust would not come off well at all.

The black smudges around the burners are from finger print dust but, yes, it isn't very clean. So they have moved out.

Whaaaat?! Who moved out? I must've missed something if you're saying DA's family has moved out. I had to take some medicine that made me fuzzy earlier and I may be misunderstanding. TIA

I meant that I was very new ;p that was my reasoning for using tinypic to upload the photo as I was on my mobile & didn't see any of the advanced options. sorry for the confusion!

I didn't think of that. Thanks for enlightening me.
