But, it's interesting to note in one of the court cases RC represented himself as indigent (while he's had custody)...and that's just plain sad.

Maybe he was inbetween jobs...the job he had while living with his mother and the new job he got that he has now. That is a possibility.

Nana46 I do understand your level of frustration with Haleigh being missing and I feel the same way too.

However, I must take issue when it is said that Haleigh probably didn't have a regular schedule. That she wasn't fed dinner at a certain time. That she wasn't put to bed at a certain time.

Because we just haven't seen anything to support that speculation. I came from a desperately poor family. My Mother was 16 when she gave birth to me, my bio-dad was 17. On my Dad's side I come from people that came down off the mountains to look for better jobs. ( Appalachian people).

From my Mom's side they came from the Deep South (MS) and I have never heard it referred to the "Dirty South" until it was called that in rap songs. It's just not referred to in that manner by Southerners.

I have been called poor white trash, I have been called a redneck, I have been called a cr@cker, but I was loved. I was fed. And my parents made sure I got to school for a public education everyday for 12 years.

So I"m going to sign off now because I can tell I'm getting to wound up with all the talk about "those people" from that "culture".

Is anyone expecting anything revealing from the upcoming presser? I'm not. There have been no rumblings or even rumors today. Considering that it is prescheduled, I'm not getting hopes up that there will be any news to report.

Sometimes, it is after a quiet day we get breaking news.

Swag, I know about both. My uncle, back in the day, raised/fought champion fighting dogs, this was La and I know that fighting dogs still goes on all over the south. Also, know about *advertiser censored* fights because too. Louisiana was one of the last states to ban *advertiser censored*/dog fighting.

Yeah, in Biloxi (of course, we're only about 45 minutes/an hour from LA) there is cockfighting here, too. I know, because someone I knew through an acquaintance got busted for it, and another person I know of has been in trouble for it, too. He's actually pretty well to do.

Cockfighting does happen here.

Imagine that 47 out of 50 in cost per student with underpaid teachers yet most states are giving a free education to inmates who commit the most horrific of crimes, 3 square meals a day, no bills at all! This isn't a standards problem, this is clearly a government problem! Its no wonder our children suffer.
The class issue is not learned at schools, it is learned at home. JMHO

Just my 2 cents...and maybe I read it wrong...but I think "class" was referring to who or who could not buy a better education. IOW...economic class.

I know this will sound out of place, but why do people put pictures of their children on places like My place or whatever it is called? Don't they realize they are exposing their children to the whole world? Don't they know there are nuts out there.. do they think that those same nuts cannot find out where they live and everything about them? There are times I wish there was no internet. I am an old lady and I have seen a lot but I cannot understand all these abductions by predators and others. I think people need to protect their children a whole lot more. The only people who should know your children are your relatives , neighbors and schools. It makes me sick every time pictures of children are plastered all over the internet. What are they thinking?

Family, others worried about Putnam girl's well-being

SATSUMA - A growing sense of gloom and hopelessness for the well-being of Haleigh Ann-Marie Cummings has fallen over the little girl’s south Putnam County neighborhood as the search for her continues this afternoon.
More than 225 people on horseback, all-terrain vehicles and foot resumed their fifth day of searching thick scrubland and woods this morning, with no signs from police or others that anything new has developed. Dive teams also continued searching in the St. Johns River about 300 yards from Haleigh's home.
There will be a 4 p.m. press briefing, which was previously scheduled.
Today's search for the 5-year-old blonde-haired girl went through early periods of rain and dark skies, reflecting the mood of those hoping to still find Haleigh alive. Despite a partly sunny afternoon, the glum faces of family, friends and volunteers provided a continued sense of concern for Haleigh's safety.

I think it's just the procedure you have to go thru to get a public defender (i.e. you can't afford a lawyer)

I am not making any judgements and do not have an opinion on exactly who is responsible for this child's disappearance but,

I have lived in Florida over 20 years and can attest that this family's dymanics and criminal records are not typical of normal, country folk who may not have a lot of money or education. There are many rural and backwoods areas of Florida and many are filled with family's who have little money or education but get by and live very simple lives.

IMO this family and their associates are more typical of a much more antigovernment and anti authority belief system. These types seem to distrust the police and live just outside the law. They place little value on education and have a crude set of social skills. These beliefs are passed from generation to generation. There are rural pockets of Florida where this type of behavior is prevelant and drugs and alcohol abuse is common.


My concern is that this lack of trust of government may be hindering the search for this girl as many of the family are IMO not being entirely truthful to police due to trying to hide a lot of illegal activity.

Google "Apalachia" - check out that lifestyle. I think 20/20 just did a big segment on Apalachia and the effects of the economy on them. I spoke the other day about "stepping back" and taking a different approach with this "venue". It is a small, very rural, very generational type place. Rap sheets - well yea, there aint' THAT many people living there - iffen ya gonna do somethin' ya probably gonna get caught type deal.

I try to live by "judge not and ye shall not be judged". As long as the children are clean, fed, loved, cared for with a good roof over their heads and sent to school who am I to judge?

It was on lastnight with Diane Sawyer. You felt so sorry for the people, regardless of how they tried to break away they couldn't & ended up right back in the mountains in the same poverty they left.

OT...
Being a born and bred Georgian, I have some knowledge on the educational system in the south ... my experience with the school system growing up was good mostly because my Grandparent's worked hard to send me to private school. The public school system in Chatham County, Ga. (Savannah) was very low on the list back then, not sure where they are today as I don't live there anymore. I agree that there are many factors that play into the equation, pay of teachers, family responsibility and interest in their child's education, poverty level, etc...I feel today that one of the most important factors in a child's educational success is the attitude and involvement of the parent's, they can make or break a child's interest and motivation to learn.

People come from all walks of lives, none of us are perfect. I don't think this family are guilty because they live on a trailer park, or because there have been arrests for drugs etc. I think Misty is lying and perhaps Ronald but not because of their lifstyle do I believe that. It is an insight to who they are but if you looked at the McCanns before Madeleine went missing, who would ever have guessed they'd leave their 3 kids under the age of 4 locked in an apt in a foreign country and not only that but they are imo responsible for her demise in more ways than one. Upstanding citizens, respected doctors ha, don't make me laugh! It makes not one difference IMO.

When I form an opinion about this family it isn't based on their socio-economic class in life. It is about what I hear coming out of their mouths which is disturbing.

So many posters find Ron more credible than naught and Misty seemingly less than credible.

I think that is because so much of what Misty has said changes, for whatever reason. And I always hate to see a man try to control a woman when she can speak for herself.


I still say if either of them are not involved they know who is.ETA: I sure hope I am wrong about that. No one ever wants the family involved in a child's going missing. God Bless Haleigh wherever she is this afternoon.

If I can just say one more thing about this degree of education...
I don't look down on any of this family for their lack or not of an education, and honestly don't feel like it has anything to do with the case at all. Many, many people in this world have master's degree's and still commit murder. Millionaires commit crimes everyday, so to me, a lack of education serves no purpose in this case. JMHO
I think that truth is the problem in this case, and getting to the truth will solve it..
If a perp did take her, that perp could have very well had been a very well educated person whom also lives in a trailer. It just doesn't fit this case.
