Me thinks the defense didn't provide doctor with other doc's assessments, OR he is an idiot. The end.

may have been a $$ issue (getting copies from NIH and or from Germany) she's got PD and out of pocket expenses could have been issue

mas·sa·cre
noun
1.
the unnecessary, indiscriminate killing of a large number of human beings or animals, as in barbarous warfare or persecution or for revenge or plunder.
2.
a general slaughter, as of persons or animals: the massacre of millions during the war.

Hardly the word to use when choosing to take your kids to Heaven IMO

We need to take a close look at the forms needed to buy and possess firearms. I know there is a question on the form about mental health. So, if you simply lie, there's no way to check it? Aha, what about the HIIPA Laws. No one can access that info so theres no way to verify that the buyer is sane enough to own a gun. I remember when they asked PS if they ever kept guns in the house he emphatically said "no, never". (In light of her condition)

"United States citizens who want to buy a gun in the state of Florida can do so without being required to have a firearms permit or license. Upon visiting a firearms dealer to buy a gun, you will be subject to a background check with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. After the background check has been completed and you have been approved, you can then purchase a gun; however, there will be a 72-hour waiting period before you are allowed to take the gun home if you are purchasing a handgun.

1. Verify that you meet Florida's criteria for buying a gun.
To buy a gun, you must be at least 18 years of age and must not be a convicted felon, have a history of mental illness or domestic violence, or abuse drugs or alcohol.

Not sure if physicians at USF had JS's records from NIMH and other hospitals.

Residents who saw JS rotated out about every 6 to 12 months.

In deposition, Dr. Myers diagnosed JS with schizoaffective Disorder -- he wrestles back and forth between this and diagnosis of Bipolar.

DSM has recently changed definition of Schizo-affective Disorder and Bipolar

Dr. Myers said it's the same condition, just semantics as far as the name.

I think this could have happened even if they hospitalized her at that time....she didn't follow medication orders--unless she would have been locked up forever that family was in danger..jmo

My sincere sympathy. I know what you mean, my son is close in age, now 28. It started in middle school as small changes more than 10 years ago, and became noticeable as he entered high school. It seems with every med change he was a different person and only made matters worse, leading to his suicide attempt and short hospitalization. He decided then, he did not want to take meds anymore. That was two years ago, and Thank God, he has been living and working independently since. Like I said earlier, he has his down days but he knows how to pick himself up with the help of family and friends.

Hugs to you HauntsForHope!!! It sounds like he was fortunate to have you, family and friends.

Mine stopped and refused to take meds over a year ago. He decompenated and he barely recognizes me anymore. He is in and out of reality within minutes. Turns on a dime. Paranoid of everything and delusional.

He's been incarcerated almost two years in jail. Thank God he has never hurt anyone. This is why this case hits close to home for me especially listening to the Drs.

He is safer there then on the streets. Because of him being off meds I'm afraid of him.
He was 4.0 GPA In HS sweet, loving, kind, handsome, athletic and popular. Non functional last 10 years. He is a severe case.

After getting MI in college he is a different person. I don't know who he is anymore and he looks awful. MI like a cancer in the brain.

(((zuri))) He is fortunate to have you there for him. Be strong xoxoxoxo

I'm sorry but the doctor can only imagine that during the time from Saturday to Thursday when she killed the kids JS was in a blur.

A blur? AKA A FOG?????

Time and time again she asks for help according to this dr. Why weren't the professionals providing the help needed? The more I hear, the more I realize her family had no clue how serious mental health issues were.

She is not Andrea Yates! as stated by someone earlier.

Again, I have to ask: Was this doc not aware of the "Saturday Massacre" comment?

Yes, his explanation is that she was planning a massacre of their bodies, but their souls would be in heaven.

I'm not really liking this fluff he's trying to feed us.

I think Parker had an inkling --- he tried his best to provide help for her. But JS is a reticent patient. Short of involuntary commitment, how can you "make" an adult comply with psychiatric treatment and an alcoholic with abstinence? Truth is, you cannot.

:floorlaugh: I think we may be highly susceptible to hypnotizing. No more three AM night club acts in LA for me.

Or late night / early morning Oscar trial ?

This doc is an idiot imo

I think he's very intelligent. I think the Defense (as they usually do) only gave him limited info so that his testimony would fit nicely into their defense strategy.

ignorance does not always equal unintelligence

She wrote on the intake form that she had thought about killing herself and the children. Too bad the doctors couldn't inform PS about this. Or did anyone in rehab even read the form?

A heads up to PS could have saved their lives.

Indeed, nobody knew how sick she was.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. I'm so glad for websleuths it a great place to come together with everyone with so much support and stories to share.

Everyone's opinion is special and appreciated!!!
