This trial has started but it seems pretty silent. Monday, 12/6 was jury selection. Trial began yesterday 12/7. I’m told a few witnesses testified but they didn’t see anything. Hopefully more to come. He is facing first degree murder which in Florida allows for the death penalty or life without parole. I’ve contacted media in the area as well as media in their hometowns in Texas but can’t seem to get any responses.

We got a guilty verdict on Monday, 12/13/21! Sentencing will take place on January 20, 2022.

Baker sentenced to life January 20, 2022.

Man receives life sentence for killing Gilmer woman on Florida beach

On Aug. 4, 2017, Candice Cooper, 38, of Gilmer, was pulled from the water on Smather’s Beach, in Key West, Florida, by Baker.

MONROE COUNTY, Florida (KLTV) - An East Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison after a Florida jury found him guilty in the death of a Gilmer woman whose body was pulled onto a beach in Key West, Florida.

Billy Baker, 51, of Lindale, was sentenced on January 20 in the death of his companion.
