We've questioned how the murderer knew where he was at the correct time. Could a GPS of some type been put under his car when it was parked in the university's parking lot?

A GPS could have been placed, but why follow DM to his home to execute him, unless that was some sort of statement?

It was were he went after dropping kids off, and could be some sort of statement too. It was one place the killer knew where he would go, I'm sure they scoped the place out and had a plan. Other places may have had more witnesses. If he was up by the garage, he was trapped and less witnesses.

Wondergirl, sorry to answer your question two weeks later but I haven't been on here much.

I've rejected the professional hit theory from the beginning. I mean, it wasn't very professional--Dan lived for several hours after being shot. So, maybe "un-professional" hit. But then that involves amateurs and money and many every day people involved in a conspiracy that I think would've broken down by down. People can't even keep an office romance a secret.

Personally, I'd like to see Myron May publicly considered as the murderer of Dan Markel. I've emailed his former employer along with his ex-gf several times in the hopes of getting them to check into his whereabouts on the day Dan was murdered. They haven't responded. Myron was known to try to rent cars through other people--thus, the Prius. And he not only went to FSU but he had family and friend connections there. He was a lawyer, Dan was a lawyer. I think there are a few too many coincidences to reject him as a possibility.

Who is Myron May???

nancydrew, I am curious, why do you think it was road rage???

I'm having a hard time posting on here. when I click reply it says leave the page? then on another post it says you need to add 5 characters. weird.

Anyway, I'm thinking he was driving aggressively and this person got mad and shot him. He said to the person on the phone, someone pulled into my driveway and I don't know who it is. I think it was an impulsive shooting by this person. they don't seem to find anything else as far as I know on this case, so this is my guess.

I've been lurking here occasionally and have started to lean toward deranged nut/random, very personal, or clumsy first timer 'do you know someone who'd kill my'... type attack. Definitely not the work of a real pro or someone sent at the behest of any formidable person(s). He was attacked, outside, during the day, at his home. This is about the worst way to assassinate a person, insure a quick kill and get away without being seen. Why do this? Road rage is a possibility, but that often happens right after the perceived offense, did someone arrive hot on DM's tail into the driveway? It may have been a deranged person, would explain less than thorough attempt under poor circumstances. But to me, he had just arrived home after dropping kids at daycare, right? Perhaps it was someone who wanted to make sure kids weren't around, otherwise, why not attack at dark, while DM is coming home from work late, dinner, in the house asleep etc???

nancydrew: very interesting!! This is a possibility. :twocents:

IMHO

I really want to know what kind of gun he was shot with. If it was a small handgun the perpetrator could have walked to the door or been hanging around in the driveway. If the murder weapon was a long barrelled gun, I would thing it more likely the perp remained in the prius parked in the driveway to keep the weapon concealed for as long as possible, not only from the victim but also in the event any neighbours looked across at the murder scene. Also, if it was a long barrelled weapon, the perp may perhaps have used the handle to smash out the vehicle window prior to firing his shot through it. It's also possible that only one single shot was fired regardless of whether the victim died from his injury as the loud sound of the shot may have startled and frightened the perp enough to immediately bolt to the safety of his own get away prious...

New poster here. Just joined WS yesterday. I thought I would make a little post to start. Graduated from FSU Law in May of 2014.Knew professor Markel personally. Very hard professor. But a genuinely nice guy. Those who knew him find it really hard to believe anyone would want to do something like this to him. As a former student who knows his fields of expertise.... I'm not thinking it's anything professional as some have suggested. At least not related to his research or study. He's more theoretical in nature. So he rarely deals with real people or real cases, excluding his rabbi case. Which IMHO doesn't sound like a case with any potential to be dangerous to him.

Welcome to Ws learnedhand, thanks for the "insider" perspective!

Thank you for posting and giving us some perspective about him. Do you think he was the aggressive type that might have caused road rage?

Honestly....100% no. He was a very calm man. Very calculated. And not very confrontational. Even during the Socratic method, he'd confront you and tell you he thought you were wrong. But it still never came off confrontational. If he did upset someone road rage-wise, my inclination would be that it was totally mistaken, absent minded if you will. Perhaps while on the phone. But he was not the type to drive aggressively, or flip people off. Not to sound stereotypical, but he was a 5'6" Canadian well educated Jewish guy. One of the least confrontational, aggressive people I've met.

Thank you for all the welcomes. And as far as I have heard through the grapevine (lots of my law school buddies are working for various state and local agencies) May was never considered a suspect. But there isn't much information slipping through the cracks.
