The probable cause affidavit describing the investigation suggests Magbanua was compensated for her alleged involvement. In the 12 months before Markel's death, Magbanua made cash deposits totaling $15,000. In the 12 months after his death, she made cash deposits totaling $44,000, in addition to paychecks from the Adelson family dental practice. The windfall led to some big-ticket purchases, the affidavit states, including a new car and breast augmentation surgery.

There was $100,000 in cash waiting once the murder was done. Garcia, who would take $40,000, promised him $35,000. The rest, and then some, went to Garcia’s on-and-off girlfriend Katherine Magbanua, Rivera said.

On the way back to Miami, they stopped along a bridge where Garcia threw the gun into the water underneath. Investigators are still trying to recover the firearm. The next day, Rivera said, Magbanua called to arrange getting the two men the money. He met her and Garcia at his North Miami home where they divvied up stacks of 10 $100 bills stapled together.

Lol.

I would have done this. Jmo.

I would have informed Dan and the feds that I was hired to kill Dan for 35k - 100k

But I also would have told them that we can fake his death but I still need my 35k.

So once the fake murder is done and the money changes hands; Then I get to keep the 35k as a reward. Jmo.

So not only you stop a murder and have all conspirators arrested . But you also get the forfeited money that was provided for the murder by the guilty parties. Jmo.

i'd like to know how the alleged mastermind(s) allegedly came up with $100,000 in cash (in hundred dollar bills) without leaving an obvious electronic and/or paper trail and also evade bank reporting requirements. maybe if they were running a pizza parlor or other business where there's a lot of cash transactions, i could understand. but in today's day and age, it's very difficult to come up with that kind of money in cold hard cash without leaving a big trail. maybe there is a big trail that LE hasn't made public yet. but are the masterminds that stupid?

I think the "joke" was scheduling a TV repairman the day of the murder, to play on their code. IMO WA immediately tells the police about the brother "joke" because she wants to seem cooperative, seem out of the loop with the rest of the family, and knows Lacasse will say something so she wants to get in front of it saying it was a "joke".

IMO it sounds like it was a constant "joke" he'd say all the time about different things in the different variations -

C - "Want to grab dinner?"
W - "Sure!"
C - "Well, it's cheaper than a hitman." (Ha Ha Ha)

C - "I bought you a new TV."
W - "Thank you!"
C - "Well, it's cheaper than a hitman." (Ha Ha Ha)

etc.

but if Lacasse is telling the truth that Princess confided in him and told her before that hit that "CA looked into it and it would cost about $15K." than THAT AIN'T NO JOKE and WA should not have been so incredulous to LE that CA could've been involved. what's weird is that she was so incredulous yet so incriminating at the same time.

DISCLAIMER - Pure Speculation, My Opinion Only, IF Guilty.

Idk.

But imo. Rich families have rainy day money that the irs may not know about. Jmo.

Plus they give cars away. Lol

“People don't become criminals because they're smart. They become criminals because they think they're smart.”

Thats weird.

LR stated that 100k was paid for the hit.

It was explained as 35k to him and 40k to Garcia.

But he never did say that the last 25k was for KM.

So I must wonder. Why would you tell the hitman all of the numbers.

Why not just say the hit is worth 70k. At 35 each.

So maybe LR was mad when he figured the numbers out and realized that KM got 25k for being a middle man. Idk.

Plus LR could be mad because he will be implicated. But out of 100k. The García family gets 65k.

Idk.

But I must admit. If LR did get 35k for just driving and keeping his mouth shut.

Then he definitely got a good deal since most gangbangers kill rivals for free. Jmo.
Don't you remember? LR must have been ticked off because he unknowingly sent his "cousin"
to tell DA that he needed more money for that "thing up north."
And then that pesky cousin sent the A family a registered letter.
CA was going to have him killed
if KM couldn't find someone. And the 3 A's-CA, HA and DA huddled outside on their patio out of earshot of all those money grubbing Rivera's. 😨

yeah well that was the immediate day or so after the murder. I believe she didn't come to the actual funeral in Canada nor to any other memorial that happened at FSU, NYC, DC, Boston and Toronto.
Ok, I could believe that WA did not attend any other memorials than the one shortly after the murder. I would 't want that thrown out there without any supporting information that it was truly the case. Do you know from personal observation or have inside information that she was not there, or did you get this from a news source or some other source? Just interested to know how or why you believe this to be true.

You would of, and that would of been interesting, but remember SG and LR are besties. And he said he brought along his own gun because you never know sometimes the hitman's buddy, ride along, confidant, helper, well he gets shot too. Not his words but that was his message that he was taking precautions lest he be in danger himself. He would then be a snitch and probably rubbed out in no time.

After all the times we have seen WA react to the news about DM, wondering now why that portion of the much longer interview was released?

Where is the longer version of the interview? I've only seen the four or so minutes released by ABC. Can you please link it? Sorry if I missed it in an earlier thread - thanks!

i guess they could've had $100,000+ sitting in a bank safety deposit box or a safe at home. if they planned this crime for many months they could've slowly accumulated the cash but it would've taken some time to not leave a trail - any withdrawal or deposit at $10K+ must be reported by the bank - even so, all transactions no matter what the size are recorded and saved. but i just don't think that most normal, wealthy, law-abiding people keep that amount of paper cash on hand. it's usually invested or spent - not kept in cash which loses value with inflation. and remember - Rivera said that these were all $100 bills stapled in stacks of 10. $1,000 stacks. stapled stacks means they probably came from a bank. there has to be records of these transactions. but if there is a history of the alleged masterminds withdrawing a lot of paper cash going back 10+ years than it really doesn't prove anything. maybe they went to the casino a lot and gambled? my guess is that LE has a lot more info on this subject that we do not know yet.

It certainly would have been interesting to see the whole 5 hour interview, but i was wondering if there was a specific purpose/ strategy, for releasing the part where WA cries.
speculation.

rbbm.

The ex-wife of slain Florida State University law professor Dan Markel told Tallahassee police on the day of the shooting that she was in fear and worried that whoever shot Markel could be coming for her children next.

“I’m scared. I don’t know why this would happen,” Wendi Adelson told an investigator during a 2014 videotaped interview that spanned more than five hours.

Gotcha. A source within the Tallahassee Democrat told me they have the entire 5 hour video...it's not that LE held on to it. The press has it. I don't understand why they don't publish it, when they published the entire 2 hour Rivera interview.

The judge just delayed Garcia's trial per request of his lawyer.

we may have another plea deal coming. maybe. many "trigger men" in the past have flipped in order to avoid the needle and the prosecution is more than happy to cut a deal to get the masterminds. SG's chances of not-guilty at trial are extremely slim with all of the evidence against him and LR flipping. and KM probably flipping. his attorney and he know this. if i was his attorney i'd be trying to cut a deal ASAP while he still can - and even maybe beat KM to the punch. SG seems to know a lot more about the alleged masterminds' involvement than LR and there is some value there for LE - to corroborate KM and LR. but SG's value will diminish and expire like a bag of chips if he doesn't act soon IMO.

I think you're probably correct about LE having more info about financial records, which hasn't yet been made public. I seem to recall having seen information about bank records being on some of the exhibit lists, as well as surveillance footage of CA at a financial institution if I'm not mistaken. The fact that there appear to have been at least two and as many as four As who were allegedly involved in this plan would have made it easier to make the withdrawals in smaller increments over time. But if multiple As were repeatedly withdrawing in cash in $5,000-$9,999 increments, that seems like it would be good circumstantial evidence. Isn't that how Dennis Hastert was caught?IMHO, speculation.

Garcia's lawyers Sa'am Zangeneh and Mauricio Padilla asked for a delay in the trial and the judge granted one.
The judge did not set a new trial date.

Garcia's next court appearance will be December 6th.

Garcia's attorney said afterward that the state's case now relies heavily on the testimony and credibility of co-defendant turned state witness Luis Rivera.
He would not comment on how Rivera's plea could impact Garcia's case or whether Garcia would become a cooperating witness.

Sigfredo Garcia Trial Date Thrown Out Monday

Garcia's attorneys requested a continuance Monday morning, saying the needed more time to review evidence in the case, including wire taps they received in September.

The attorneys said they are working on changing their strategy after Luis Rivera agreed to be a state witness in his plea deal earlier this month. Rivera plead guilty to second degree murder for his involvement in Markel's death.

Garcia's team also says the state has outstanding evidence that hasn't been presented in discovery.

I am not an attorney.....so, can KM and SG request to speak with each other? Can their 2 separate attorneys work together to get the best deal for both of them?
