This photo was obtained from a resident's surveillance footage - time stamp is 10:40 a.m. on 08-13-24.

DEPUTIES ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR MR. BROWN.

On 08-13-24 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a missing person. The caller stated that he, and the now missing person, had been walking in a wooded area on Batten Road in Brooksville, along with the caller’s dog. The caller briefly returned to the residence to retrieve something, leaving the dog and the other individual to continue exploring.

Before the caller was able to return to the wooded area, the dog arrived at the residence, without the other individual.

The caller searched the wooded area for several hours, meeting with negative results. He then notified the Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol deputies, K-9 teams, deputies with drones, the HCSO Civilian Mounted Unit, and the HCSO Aviation Unit were dispatched to the area to search for the missing man.

Upon arrival, deputies immediately began searching.

While searching, deputies spoke with residents in the area, some of whom had surveillance cameras and were willing to check footage.

Through this process, deputies obtained footage of the missing man, identified as David Brown, walking through wooded areas at approximately 10:40 a.m. Brown was walking southbound, toward Hayman Road.

Shortly after arriving on scene, deputies requested assistance from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. A K-9 team (bloodhound) was dispatched to assist in the search. The team searched the area extensively, meeting with negative results.

Throughout the night, both the HCSO Aviation Unit and deputies with drones (both equipped with infrared capabilities) continued to search the vast wooded area. Search efforts yielded negative results for heat signatures.

Search efforts continue this morning with numerous resources from the HCSO, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office (PSO), the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR), and volunteers from the HCSO Sheriff’s Emergency Response Volunteer team (SERV).

Residents in this area are asked to check their properties, any sheds or outbuildings, parked vehicles, areas of brush/shrubs, etc., for Mr. Brown.

David Brown is described as follows:

  • White / Male
  • Approximately 70 years old
  • Grey Hair
  • Grey Goatee
  • Thin Build
  • White shirt with horizontal blue stripes (ripped on the back)
  • Blue Shorts
  • No Shoes and Possibly One Sock (was originally wearing shoes; however, surveillance footage shows only one sock, no shoes).
Mr. Brown suffers from significant medical issues.

If you see, or have seen, Mr. Brown, or know his current whereabouts, please contact the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office at 352-754-6830 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

If you gave Mr. Brown a ride, please call our office ASAP.

Command staff gathers to plan next stages of the search for missing person, David Brown, as we move into the afternoon on the fourth day.

We want to continue to encourage everyone who lives off Batten Road, south of Family Lane, to please take a look around your own properties, checking all sheds, workshops, ponds, and wooded hiding spots. If you have game/trail cameras, please check your images over the last few days.

If you see anything suspicious, please call us at 352-754-6830. Thank you to the community for all of the assistance thus far. We can't express how much we appreciate your support.

Can anyone else tell what he is carrying? In one picture it looks like small rocks and weeds but in the other it looks like something larger. Bless his heart. I sure hope he is found soon.
I blew up the photo as best I could - looks to be some sort of plant, perhaps wildflower or other type long long stemmed wild plant, with some of the root structure still attached (though no flowers are visible). Some people gather such things to make tinctures or other herbal medicinal remedies, but given his possible mental state when he went missing there's no telling what caused him to gather then up.

Quoting from video:
He may be attempting to hide from LE
He is not from that area, came from Georgia 08/13
He has some pretty significant health issues, mental health issues and may be trying to hurt himself

I was thinking something along these same lines. I've even wondered about the possibility that he might have ingested something plant-based either intentionally or unintentionally or even absorbed something like sap through his skin that might cause him to be hallucinating.

According to the latest update from the Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 16,

“Despite an extensive search by law enforcement by multiple agencies since Tuesday, Missing Person David Lamar Brown has still not been located.

“The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office plans to conduct a modified search for Mr. Brown throughout the weekend, which will include drones, K-9s, and some ground searches.

This is very concerning.

Trail goes cold in search for missing cancer patient last seen in Hernando County: 'Vanished into thin air'

Amy Brown told FOX 13 that her husband was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer last spring. Earlier this month, she brought him down to Hernando County to spend time with his brother, Carl.

On Aug. 13, David Brown wanted to walk to a special tree to pray, according to his wife. She added that the trail to the tree was blocked, so Carl temporarily left David to go get equipment to remove it.

Amy Brown told FOX 13 that Ring video captured her husband knocking on a woman’s door, asking for directions to the tree.
I don't know if he got lost and he's hurt and he's lying in the woods somewhere," Amy Brown shared. "There's a possibility that somebody may have given him a ride. I don't know. I'm really baffled by all this. I think he would try his best to get back to us because he loves his family."

On Monday, HCSO announced it stopped all active searches for David Brown but is continuing to analyze evidence this week
