They've put in for a continuance for trial per court records today. Don't think I've ever seen a continuance for not allowing a paralegal at defense table... can't wait to hear all about this. Defense is trying to keep a LOT out. Living with her Therapist.. and therapist part of the march in front of courthouse... wow. This is local for me.. might have to pop into trial when it happens.

As to the paralegal issue, what I heard on Court TV the other day after the hearings is the judge said he could not sit at the defense table but he could sit right behind the defense attorney on the first row. Does not seem like a big difference to me, but IANAL.

I am always grateful to get local perspectives, please keep posting!

I agree... They seem to be grasping at straws at this point.

Not sure jury selection will be started timely on July 22, 2024??? idk

Trial still shows on county site, however, on July 19, AB filed for an emergency continuance:

A) grant a continuance of the trial scheduled July 22, 2024 for a period of at least 60 days or for such time as the Court deems appropriate to address the issues outlined herein.

B) grant any other relief this Court deems just and proper to ensure the protection of AB’s constitutional rights.

AB looked like she's sedated. She barely look upped with no facial expressions at all. I have to wonder if it's an act? Of course it all could be the incredible weight one has on them when they allegedly murder someone in cold blood. We'll see how things move forward. I have a feeling things are not going to go well for her.

Such a stark difference in body language than Karen Read in my opinion.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - The former ballerina accused of murdering her estranged husband was in court for the first day of her murder trial on Monday,

Jury selection began after the judge denied a motion from the defense team to delay the trial another 60 days. The trial is expected to last around 2 weeks.

Eva Benefield, the daughter of Doug, who Ashley Benefield is accused of murdering, was in the court room.

“I think about him a lot,” the 23-year-old said, when talking about her father. “I’m excited for it to be done because this has been holding me up in a lot of different areas in my life, just waiting for it to end,” she added.

Benefield trial set to begin Tuesday

“I think the state has every right to and is ready to go to trial. I think both sides should be ready at this point. There has been more than sufficient time for preparation,” said Whyte.

Taylor also asked the judge to voluntarily recuse himself from the trial, arguing that Whyte’s ruling at a July 2023 Stand Your Ground hearing showed bias against Ashley Benefield.

In the 27-page ruling, Whyte wrote that the evidence showed that the state proved Doug Benefield’s death wasn’t a “singular act of necessary self-defense but was instead the culmination of a lengthy, concerted effort” by Ashley Benefield.

Ashley Benefield is out on bond after posting $100,000 in November 2020 and is wearing an ankle monitor, according to court records.

Almost did not recognize her, she looks sooo different than she did last week at her motions hearing! I, too, think it is an act for the benefit of jurors being chosen today.
