*Arraignment Hearing (@ am) - FL - Melody Alana Rose Duran (2) had her throat slit by her father on May 28, 2024 Pembroke Pines. *Jerónimo Anthony Duran (33) arrested (5/28/24), charged (5/30/24) & arraigned (6/3/24) with 1st degree murder, aggravated child abuse & murder while committing another felony. Plead not guilty (written plea). Held without bond.
Case info: According to court records, Duran picked up his daughter, identified as Melody Alana Rose Duran on Tuesday morning, 5/28/24 & brought her to the house. After a few hours, there was a gruesome discovery. Police said Duran’s grandmother, who also live in the home, arrived at the residence and witnessed the murder. “She arrived at the residence, she saw the suspect on top of the 2-year-old child & noticed that the child did not appear to be breathing, at which time, she called for 911,” Pembroke Pines Police Sgt. Jason Palant said. When officers arrived at the home, they found Melody with blood & a laceration on her neck. A knife was recovered nearby. Duran was then arrested at the home. “Detectives were able to establish probable cause to charge him with first-degree murder,” said Palant. “He was questioned by detectives, he spoke with detectives and through his statement, it helped establish probable cause for his arrest. However, we don’t have a motive at this time.” Jerónimo Duran was charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated child abuse & murder while committing another felony. Additional charges could come once an investigation is complete.
5/29/24 Update: Initial hearing held on 5/29/24. Duran did not appear in court on Wednesday due to a medical reset. Bond review hearing set on 5/30/24.
5/30/24 Update: Judge charged Duran with 1st degree murder & aggravated child abuse in his daughter's killing, was ordered held without bond on the murder charge & given a $500K bond on the child abuse charge. Bond review hearing held. Arrest paperwork. File provisional Order appointing public defender. Order: Defendant's 5th Amendment have been invoked. Held without bond.
6/2/24 Docket update: File notice of appearance. Next arraignment hearing on 6/3/24. 6/3/24 Update: Filed: Defense Motion to issue Subpoena Duces Tecum. File: Defense Motion to preserve evidence. Duran plead not guilty written plea.
