Mom has filed a complaint with the ACLU?? I doubt they are mistreating her son, even if he does turn out to be a murderer. This is an ongoing investigation. The investigation of a 15 year old who took off with stolen guns in the stolen vehicle of his granny who was found in a shallow grave after spending time with him. Mom is going to have to sit tight and be patient on those return emails, I'm afraid.

She filed a complaint with the ACLU? Because the cops aren't keeping HER appraised of the situation?

Helicopter mother from afar? Enabler?

What the actual heck?

Yes. It's not like a minor who was caught with a joint or caught shoplifting some beer. This is potentially a Capital Murder case. They are not going to let Mom rush in and try to save her son. He will likely be charged as an adult and will have an attorney to protect him from now on.

I feel badly for his parents because I know they love him. I just wish he had gotten help before the implosion. :rose:

To be fair, he does have a serious medical condition that she can provide medical history about. I can understand her wanting to get in touch with them asap to make sure he's being taken care of medically.

I'm sure she is frantic, but her son is being held on the most serious of crimes. The LEOs are not concerned about a worried mom of a criminal right now. She needs a lawyer to help her figure this out.

I'm glad he was found - it was a horrible situation for him to be driving around with guns.

Every jail in America has inmates with diabetes. His disease is the least of his worries right now.

When my son was arrested he was still healing from major leg surgery. The medical staff treated him fine. He was older (19) and no not comfy like having me helping him but he made his choices. Jmo.

this is all so tragic. RIP Kristina.

I saw articles that mentioned the elderly grandmother. Kristina was not elderly. She seemed like such a wonderful person.

Logan, I feel for you. Your life will never be the same. More than likely, you will have a life in prison. So sad for the whole family.

Right - she was not elderly but in her early 50s. A young grandma for a 15yo grandson. Logan's parents were likely teens/early 20s when they had Logan.

Heavy' s five facts.

Nothing really new or earth shattering, but a bit more color on the family.

Carrie Campbell-Mott said she refused*to let her son, Logan Mott, be interviewed by investigators until he has legal representation.**

Sounds like the ACLU at least gave her some good advice.

Already a complaint with the ACLU -- wow.

My guess is that her contact with the ACLU has to do with:

https://www.aclu.org/other/aclu-history-right-remain-silent
[h=1]ACLU HISTORY: RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT[/h]
https://www.aclu.org/blog/mass-inca...rts-must-consider-childs-age-miranda-warnings
The U.S. Supreme Court was asked to decide whether age was in fact something to consider when deciding if a person was in custody. To the ACLU and five Supreme Court Justices, the answer was painfully obvious – yes, of course.
As the Court explained, “t is beyond dispute that children will often feel bound to submit to police questioning when an adult in the same circumstances would feel free to leave,” and there is no reason for “police officers or courts to blind themselves to that commonsense reality.”

Mott’s mother, Carrie Campbell-Mott, told News4Jax that detectives flew up to meet him Saturday morning, but she’s not sure exactly how to get to him. She added that she has filed a complaint with the ACLU.

In my country children are not allowed to be interviewed without a parent or guardian present. If a parent or guardian cannot be found or is unwilling to be present, the court will appoint an advocate, quite separate than legal counsel.

Unfortunately (imo), in the US teens are usually considered as able to understand the Miranda warning. He's bright, in an advanced program at school, so it's not likely any statements he makes to LE would be thrown out.

Not sure about what might happen with any statements to customs officials, they have a lot more power and fewer rules than normal LE.

MO, IANAL, and all that.

I think you’re right, and I think it’s wise. I can’t believe it’s even allowed for a minor to be interviewed without a parent present.

Her contacting them means all the LE agencies involved will be careful to be fully compliant.
