Does anyone have an actual mainstream media link for the gambling, or are these all pure theory/speculation? I couldn’t find anything about gambling debt on this case, so I’m wondering where it’s coming from.

It is 100% speculation. Secret lives have been noted in numerous family annihilator cases when the annihilator doesn't commit suicide. Examples - Chris Watts, Chris Coleman, Scott Peterson. They all were involved in an affair. Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald had a history of infidelity.

This case reminds me so much of a guy I know who is the biggest whale at let’s say “Casino X.” He’s in his 70’s, overweight, very well-liked business owner; highest roller in the place. Always in the front row at shows and special events. Name is always called first in tournaments n for large winnings, etc. Anyway his primary home is about 4 hours away where his gorgeous wife and kids are. Meanwhile, he stays at casino hotel with his young Asian gold digging mistress 5 of the 7 days gambling. Everyone knows he’s married, everyone, including hosts, knows he’s cheating, n still everyone treats him like gold. Why? Because cash is king in casinos. We all know he’s WAY down n wonder how he can keep playing at that level. He also throws money around like its water to other players who borrow it but of course never pay it back. He tips in hundreds, not $20’s. He n his wife are always in tg3 news for big donations n events they host, etc at her urging, I’m sure. This case really makes me wonder if he isn’t running some kind of business scam in order to keep up his level of play.

Interesting. Do you mean like the telephone scams, for instance?

Just finished reading this whole thread - I do remember the family was missing - and just got to read about it now.
Kind of late on this - but I'll post it anyway! :)

Been to both FW and MS a few times. Very popular.
Yes, Foxwoods has very confusing layout. I went once just to see it and never went back. Mohegan Sun is very beautiful, has good shows and good restaurants. But neither casino pays out.

Isn't that a fire hazard?
That’s what they say, but one time driving into a casino I was actually behind a huge Oxygen tanker truck. And think about how you feel inside those places. I personally wake up and feel “happier” and more buoyant and more full of energy. No question about it.

His finances are a wreck and people are speculating about possible reasons why.

I think he’s a sociopathic narcissist who killed his family because they were an obstacle to something he wanted.

He might be the flavor of narcissist that depends on having a perfect “good guy” image and if it came out he was committing fraud (to maybe supply a gambling habit?) his good guy image would be shattered with his wife and kids. He couldn’t handle the shame of them thinking he is less-than-wonderful so he killed them. That’s just a hypothesis.

Yes, I'm one of 2 that brought up the big 3. Drugs, sex, gambling. But long rambling posts about this casino and that casino and all the gambling buddies isn't germaine to the discussion, IMO. While we assume gambling fits, we don't know for sure. Jmo

What other explanation could there be for someone needing so much money when he is capable of making plenty. A girlfriend? Maybe.

Can a physical therapist make prescriptions?

One interesting thing about this case is the fact that he left the bodies in his own house. He didn’t even try to hide them like CW. Surely he had to know they’d know he did it. So why wait so long to answer door? And if cops hadn’t forced him out who knows how long he’d have waited. Why not just run, or kill himself or something, anything but just sit there. May have been trying to win some $ back in a last ditch effort to pay off some creditors and hide more of his situation. One day prior to killings he paid creditors $278,000. Makes me wonder if he got a big hit or used proceeds from home sale in 17 that were otherwise allocated for gambling expenses or to pay taxes. JMO.

U have a point. Just pointing out that if gambling is the issue here, there are a lot business owners in exactly the same boat. I just found this site and was surprised no one out of hundreds of posts pointed out the obvious. The big elephant in the room. I really don’t know how this site works. This case just really interested me be of the obvious gambling angle. One last thing, u don’t even need to go to casinos anymore to lose this kind of money. A young father in the UK with a gorgeous wife and 2 or 3 beautiful kids committed suicide after losing the lot in sports betting from the iphone in his pocket. And more and more people than ever are engaging in online gambling. The fastest way to lose money. Hope my posts r of some interest anyway. I usually stick to sports and gambling news sites.

No PTs can’t RX but he had a physician working for him I believe. I doubt he’s taken out so many high interest loans for a gf. More than likely involves something else extremely addictive like drugs or gambling. JMO.

20% of gamblers attempt suicide —
Americans lost $116.9 billion gambling in 2016.

That’s 1 in 5. And some even resort to killing. Just Google “Suicide gambling” sometime. The stories are sad, interesting and many. Interesting story. The wife was unaware of his gambling debt.

Interesting article: Suicide of perfect dad and husband with 'wall of gambling debts'

Something up in CT must have driven him there. Maybe wanted to hide more evidence, or see someone, or he just wanted to leave the Fl scene n ran to a familiar place, or maybe was hoping no one ever saw him in Fl to begin with. I really wonder what his plans were. Odd he didn’t kill himself. He honestly couldn’t have thought he would get away with it. I wonder if he drove or flew back n forth. Maybe he was planning on killing himself after cleaning up more lose ends, but the cops came too soon. How did he think he was going to survive with no money, or was he hiding some.
JMO but I think he had no idea what to do after he murdered his family... and no money.
