"Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Kenneth Stoddard, 36, and Misty Stoddard, 37, both of 9021 Delft Road, Sarasota, for abusing their daughter, who died on Dec. 17th, 2012.

Sarasota County EMS was called to the Stoddard home on December 12th when 11-year-old Melissa stopped breathing. The child was transported to Doctor’s Hospital and then transferred to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, where doctors discovered Melissa had severe brain damage and was classified as brain dead. She also had ligature marks on her upper arms, wrists, ankles and thigh area.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported "The child wasted away and lost 40 pounds over three months, was tied up on a board until the rope left marks on her body and slept on a bare mattress, according to prosecutors and court documents."

Melissa died on December 17th from what the medical examiner determined was hypoxia, which is caused by the deprivation of adequate oxygen supply."

Yes, they cleaned her up nicely. I like to see how they looked the day they came in. Tells me so much about who they really are... jmo

Nobody from Sarasota Memorial Hospital reported abuse when Melissa got stitches on Dec. 7, 2012, defense points out #stoddardtrial

Hospital workers -- just like teachers -- are required by law to report child abuse to DCF, defense says. #stoddardtrial

"The hospital obviously didn't see any signs of abuse," defense David Taylor says #stoddardtrial

Somehow this child's ongoing cries went unheard by many...

It seems that special needs children are more likely to be abused because they can be difficult to handle. Why are others so willing to look away :banghead:
