Surprisingly, he looks stronger physically than I expected after six weeks in the hospital. Not much muscle wasting and his color looks healthy, but it's hard to tell his mental condition though. He looked robotic.

I hope we learn more to understand what was going on with him. He's never been in serious trouble that we know, and has never been in jail, but after one unexplainable night he became a vicious killer. Now, he's facing such serious charges. I hope journalists will cover this more in depth because people want to know how and why this all happened.

Wow. I am shocked at how well he looks. Walks fine. Didn't need assistance holding himself up. Obviously has more mental/cognitive ability than most of us were thinking. Eyes do look around just a bit. Appears he is aware. I don't think he is/ looks as robotic as much as he just looks like "I am totally #{€^#!" Prob told not to say a word and not to make eye contact. Really really shocked. The info we had access to...made me think he was teetering on death's door ---- ever heard of anyone going directly from ICU, critcal condition and organs failing...straight to walking out of the hospital and into jail/or sent home for that matter. No rehab? This is weird. Then again, we really never knew for certain how he was doing.

What are you all thinking

I thought he looked robotic too. He had the flat affect and gait of someone with schizophrenia . I hope we find out if he was on drugs or if this was a psychotic break. It has to be one of the two imo

What kind of shirt is he wearing in his booking photo and is this normal?:

oooh, isn't that one of the 'uniforms' that keep you from harming yourself with your own jailhouse clothing? I don't think he can take it off himself. I am sure he will be suicide watch. Well JMO tho.

Interesting. I was noticing they didn't seem especially worried that he'd be dangerous transporting him. I guess that's a special restraining jacket they slapped on him to book him? Odd. Is he on suicide watch? He must be aware inside his head if they're going to be questioning him, but...how much does he understand and remember? I imagine his attorney will be present?

As someone noted above, an anti-suicide outfit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-suicide_smock

"An anti-suicide smock, Ferguson, turtle suit,[SUP][1][/SUP] or suicide gown is a tear-resistant single-piece outer garment that is generally used to prevent a hospitalized, incarcerated, or otherwise detained individual from forming a noose with the garment to commit suicide. The smock is typically a simple, sturdily quilted, collarless, sleeveless gown with adjustable openings at the shoulders and down the front that are closed with nylon hook-and-loop or similar fasteners. The thickness of the garment makes it impossible to roll or fold the garment so it can be used as a noose. It is not a restraint and provides modesty and warmth while not impeding the mobility of the wearer.

These items are formally known as Safety Smocks and were designed and developed by Lonna Speer in 1989 while she was a nurse working in the Santa Cruz, California, county jail.[SUP][2][/SUP] Safety Smocks are now standard issue throughout jails and prisons in the United States. [SUP][3][/SUP] The same material is used for the anti-suicide blanket. Prior to use of the Safety Smock many jails and prisons stripped inmates naked and held them in a stripped down padded cell with no furniture or protusions of any kind. Some facilities opted to use paper gowns to provide modesty. However, inmates are able to fashion a noose from a paper gown in less than 15 seconds, so most institutions no longer use them."

Thanks al66pine for the Wikipedia link on the suicide smock. I was just on that site wondering how a paper gown could be fashioned into a deadly noose. Helps me understand that it's best they have these procedures in place. The more I thought about it, I realized Austin was supposedly suicidal before the crimes, and every precaution certainly has to be taken now.

It's definitely important as the below quote had me thinking and hoping all precautions would be taken to do everything legally and carefully by the book.

I'd really like to know his condition as this sounds like a mistake where they're asking for a Sandra Bland:
“My understanding is that he will probably continue to need therapy. We made it clear to the hospital that this is a jail this is not a therapeutic place to be. We’ll do the best we can,” Sheriff William Snyder said.
http://www.wptv.com/news/region-martin-county/face-biting-suspect-to-be-charged-with-murder-today
Snyder doesn't seem to understand he's placing liability on his department rather than the hospital by basically saying AH is going to the wrong place for what he medically needs. This seems risky whether it's a matter of needing mental therapy or ongoing medical treatment due to physical injuries, like if it's mental, that's setting up a defense of incapacity with Snyder's own words being able to be used by the defense.

Things were just too quiet. No updates. Knew something was up. He looks good, lost quite a bit of weight but that's to be expected.

Thanks to attorneys we probably won't hear much. I fear he'll be released to a mental ward. Affluenza seems to be a great excuse recently.

The gruesome headlines and story continues now as Austin has to answer to explain his crimes.

FSU Student Who Allegedly Tried to Eat Man's Face Charged with Murder

Authorities had initially said they would not charge Harrouff until after he was discharged from the hospital, but announced the filing of three criminal counts – two for murder and one for attempted murder – on Monday morning.

College student accused in face-biting attack taken to jail

October 03, 2016

Shackled and noticeably thinner, Austin Harrouff, 19, answered no questions from reporters as law enforcement officers led him from the hospital to an SUV for the trip to the Martin County jail, where he arrived Monday afternoon.

Just wondering if he was in a bad mood on June 29th?

Wow, can't believe it! Thought he was a goner. We really have been kept in the dark...

IMHO

BUT here it is!!! Yay!
I got to get a drink and read up on this! Thanks to all for posting!

Time will tell. We should start hearing SOMETHING soon now. I am sure his lawyer told him not to make any statements to press.
