Its amazing what 72 hours can do huh? Holes are filling in.
I agree the friends pulling up to a huge cop scene and asking if Austin had something to do with this is mighty compelling info.
I picture sister and mom wanting a Baker Act, and dad prohibited it. The old "my son isnt mentally ill - he just needs to get his act together" type thing. Which shocks in terms of education level.
Then that night happens, and then dad goes to Dr Phil. I am speculating but I kind of think dad was "getting it" from his ex wife, and daughter a la "we told you", "none of this would have happened" etc.
Speculating.
I had no clue Dr Phil had become today's Jerry Springer show, but in a way I think Dad wanted a therapist because, not only did his son what he did, but he is feeling agonizing guilt over not listening to others in the family feeling as if he needed to be Baker acted.
Dad struck me as somewhat Patricharical, the definate king of the castle etc as far as family system goes (if dad says so....)
We dont really know how long dad had been with Dr Phil before what aired, but his overwhelming (authentic IMO) tears I think fits into more of the angle of guilt, I did not listen to anyone (regarding Baker Act).
All speculation .
I tried to find the entire dump of info in one place - I think there is so much in there that is IMO opinion going to clearly indicate that a an awful lot "stuff " had been going on way longer than a "couple" of weeks. moo
Overall, however it does become angering and completely bewildering in light of socio-economic and education level of family system.
For his generation "mental illness" is far less a secret, his friends not intervening is bothersome as well. All they had to do was call 911- if he escalated when his friends said dude can we take you for an evaluation - call 911, don't tell him, and when the cops show up all of a sudden he would have escalated and LE would have clearly seen he needed to be Baker Acted.
Baker acting in and of itself is never a nice calm deal - that the whole purpose! Too sick to have capacity one needs to be in a safe setting.
After practicing a few years I got skilled at reducing that intense initial resistance to going to hospital, be repeatedly letting them know this is not punishment for you being "bad" or "crazy" but a place to be safe couple of days.
They are petrified and overwhelmed (his writings indicate such) and quietly , if intoduced slowly and calmly the notion of being somewhere safe is actually a deep "sigh"
But according to what we know so far, this would have been his first time inpt - so that would have made the prospect a bit more intimadating - but in an ironic fashion, his response to police showing up would have so escalted him that it would be so clear to LE that he met criteria for a Baker Act and transported him to a safe place for 72 hours.
During that time tho the moreimporatnat angle is family members getting "told" by a professional - that there are serious issues here, is educating the family.
They had resources - this could have had such a different trajectory solely cause they had resources.
As tiny things come out, I think it was Dad , not a lawyer in the early days that insisted that his daughter and ex wife go silent.
Family secret.
If we go early on, there was a lot of contradictory information from the mom and dad initially.
We were all surprised at dads notions of bring him back to Duffy's (not reported initially) that sounds like IMO like dad let me talk some sense into him, after Wesson oil eating.
All mo
