*Status Hearing (@ 9am ET) – FL – Nubia Barahona (10) (missing Feb. 11, 2011, W. Palm Beach, found Feb. 14, 2011 soaked with chemicals in the back of her father’s truck along side Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County), (Victor (10) injured; had acid thrown on him; he was released from hospital 3/2/11) – *Carmen V. Barahona (60/now 70) (adopted mom) arrested (2/12/11), charged (3/7/11) & indicted & arraigned (3/24/11) with 1st degree murder & 14 counts of aggravated child neglect/abuse. Plead not guilty. $1M bond.
2/21/20: Plead guilty to 1st degree murder & aggravated child abuse. Plea deal gives her a life prison sentence in exchange for testimony against her husband. Sentencing has been deferred until she testifies against her husband as agreed. If she fails in this agreement, she will be facing a sentencing hearing before a jury. Sentencing set for 8/3/20 @ 9am. 8/3/20 Update: Sentencing has been rescheduled for 10/8/20.
10/2/20 Update: Sentencing has been rescheduled to 11/12/20. 11/12/20 Update: Sentencing hearing reset to 12/10/20. 12/10/20 Update: No info on sentencing if it happened. Next a status hearing set on 1/7/21 @ 9am.

Plead not guilty. $1M bond. DA will seek DP.
Trial was set to begin on 4/6/20 reset for 6/15/20 & cancelled due to guilty plea on 9/20/20.

OMG! Now, the killer is getting a new attorney!!! Stall, obfuscate, twist the judicial system into a dishrag!

Nubia has been dead almost as long as she was alive. 1,000's of pages of evidence! And this guy still plays the system!

Since Victor and Nubia were adopted as a "family unit" because they were twins, and both had been identified as "Special Needs", due to the abuse they had received from their birth parents, I wonder how much cash, for adopting these kids, the Barahonas received.

Nothing new. Nubia Barahona has now been dead for ten years. Longer than she was alive. And her killer has still not been sentenced in her murder. Ten years...and now, Jorge Barahona has a new court appointed attorney.

I am so befuddled too and was hoping this made sense to someone else. I will be on my laptop later and do some looking around again. Maybe there is a puzzle piece I’ve missed that will help it all make sense.

During the proceeding, the defense for Jorge Barahona, 52, asked the judge to delay the start of his trial due to his wife taking a plea deal in which she agreed to testify against him. Carmen Barahona, 69, will receive a life prison sentence in exchange for her testimony.

This is the biggest cluster I have ever seen!

@Niner, you know I have been watching the charges for the attorney fees that kept going higher and higher.

This entire situation merits a series of news articles, from the foster placement, the school, the reports of abuse, the "homeschooling", the adoption, the CPS lack of investigation, the entire mess of the obfuscation of the judicial system...

And the fact that the Barahona's adult daughter got a pass for not reporting the abuse.

The whole thing is a book, waiting to be written.

Yes, the granddaughter is the one who told her father that the children were being abused. They were kept tied up in the bathtub. The GD was using bathroom, asked her mother why the kids were tied up, the mother told her to ignore it, not say anything.

She told her Father, who instigated CPS check, that never happened..."How are the kids?"..sure, you say they are fine . thanks....bye!!!! CPS worker never set eyes on children, Nubia was dead by then.
