Five jail inmates beat up notorious accused child killer Jorge Barahona at the Miami-Dade jail because “of the nature of his pending charges,” according to a newly released police report.

The men have all been charged with battery by a detainee for the March 1 attack at the county jail, also known as the Pre-Trial Detention Center.

Barahona, 53, was attacked as he slept and suffered multiple bruises on his face, a nosebleed and a small cut on his nose, according to the Miami-Dade police report.
[.....]
The high-profile case rocked Florida’s child welfare agency, which allowed the adoption of the twins and then overlooked repeated allegations of abuse. His former wife, Carmen Barahona, accepted a life prison sentence and will testify against him.

After years of delays, Barahona’s trial was scheduled to start in April 2020, but was postponed when the COVID-19 crisis shuttered Miami-Dade’s criminal courthouse. The trial has yet to be rescheduled. Barahona was granted a new defense attorney after it was revealed his previous lawyer is under investigation over discrepancies with his legal billing.

Barahona faces the death penalty if convicted at trial.

If Barahona had not kept stalling his trial, he would be in his own personal cell on death row. Safely tucked away from the "Prison Justice" swiftly served up by prisoners who loathe child abusers and child killers.

New details released in Jorge Barahona jail beating

March 12, 2021
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Local 10 News obtained a police report Friday in connection with the jailhouse beating of Jorge Barahona, who is accused of killing his adopted 10-year-old daughter.

According to the report, Barahona, 53, was jumped by five inmates on March 1 at the Miami-Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center because “of the nature of his pending charges.”

Police said the inmates attacked Barahona as he was sleeping in his cell.

Before they jumped him, they covered up nearby security cameras so the beating wouldn’t be captured, the report stated.

Inmates beat up man accused of torturing adopted daughter for months before killing her

Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, R-Miami said:

They would tie them up, beat them, smear feces on their face. [The abuse was] the most horrible, atrocious thing you can imagine.”
Diaz also said the Department of Children & Families “had many red flags they did not pay attention to."

The Florida Senate detailed the graphic and disturbing child abuse in a2016 special master report, which stated:

On February 14, 2011, [survivor] and [Nubia] were found in a pest control truck owned by their adoptive father, Jorge Barahona, along the side of I-95 in Palm Beach County. [Nubia] was dead, and [survivor] was severely injured and covered in chemicals. The adoptive parents, Jorge and Carmen Barahona, tortured the children in numerous ways, likely since gaining custody of them in 2004."

Nubia' killer has been in jail for her murder for longer than Nubia was alive. Over a decade. Jorge Barahona does not want a trial, he and his attorneys have done everything to obfuscate the legal system.

No trial date set...again. over ten years since Nubia's death.

Well she did plead guilty to her charges & the court site has guilty pleas next to those charges. And getting a life sentence after she testifies against her husband & then will be sentenced.
He plead guilty, but then got a new lawyer & changed his plea to not guilty.... so hopefully - he is NOT starting all over on these charges...

No change for Carmen.

I would so love to see a total of how much money the state has spent on Mr. Barahona and his wife, for their defense, in the last TEN years that they have been incarcerated.

This case, merits a full investigation at every single level, from why the children were placed with the Barahona's to begin with, when there was family available and willing to adopt the twins.

Why CPS ignored school officials reports of abuse, and why the children were subsequently "homeschooled". On and on...and I wish that there could be a law enacted, "Nubia's Law", that an adult who witnessed abuse, and did not report it, could be charged as an accessory to murder, because the Barahona's adult daughter KNEW of this abuse and never said a word. It was her 6 year old daughter who reported the abuse of the twins to her father.

On and on...so many layers in this mess...and the fact that no trial date, for ten years?!

I'm sad, and I feel defeated just reading this thread. This is a
disturbing case on so many levels. AP is a superstar in my opinion, and so is her father! They are the bright lights in this story, along with Nubia ,Victor and their siblings. JMO MOO
