i don't like mob mentality but after reading this story...will it be too hard to allow prison justice to take its course?
got it out of my chest so now let's continue behaving like an adult. let's hope that nubia's surviving twin and foster siblings manage to have fulfilling lives in spite of the tragey, this would be the best tribute to this poor girl.
and yes, i would like to see the childcare worker to go to jail for a least a couple of years, morally she was an accomplice to a crime...

I am from West Palm Beach, and have not heard anything...Nubia must receive justice. This poor girl and her brother never had a chance from the moment they were conceived. Mental health issues with the mother along with drug addictions and then the father was a child molester....then given to these two monsters to finish off their horror. I pray that the brother is well and that he may receive all the services to help him grow into the man his sister would be proud of.

There is no doubt in my mind that most child investigators work really hard, most try their best to protect the children and most deserve this raise, but it bothers me that the increase is attached to a bill that was necessitated by the failure of several DCF employees!

I know !! Their screw up results in th torture of two children and the death of one, and they get raises ? I'm still trying to see the logic.

Jorge Barahona was set to stand trial Sept. 28 for the attempted murder of Victor Barahona, his 10-year-old adopted son who authorities discovered in Barahona’s pesticide truck on the side of Interstate 95 in West Palm Beach on Valentine’s Day four years ago. Victor was barely alive and doused with chemicals.

He survived, but investigators also found the body of Victor’s twin sister Nubia in the truck, wrapped in plastic. Victor later told them he heard his adoptive parents, Jorge and Carmen Barahona, beat the girl to death in a bathtub at the family’s Miami home, where Victor and another adopted daughter have said they were severely abused

I believe that the trial delays are due to the fact that the state wants the Barahona's to plead, and avoid a messy embarrassing trial, that will demonstrate complete incompetence by state CPS agency.

The crime occurred almost FIVE years ago, and no trial date has been set?! This is beyond outrageous.
 
Barahona attempted murder case set for Palm Beach County trial in July

It's been almost five years since Jorge Barahona allegedly used toxic chemicals in an attempt to kill his adopted son, Victor, in Palm Beach County. Now plans are on track for the Miami man's high-profile trial this summer.

Without Barahona in the courtroom Tuesday, Circuit Judge Samantha Schosberg Feuer set the case for jury selection to start July 25. The trial had been scheduled for last September until the attorneys requested more time to prepare.

The former pest exterminator, 58, and his wife, Carmen, remain charged with first-degree murder in Miami-Dade County in the death of Victor's 10-year-old adopted twin sister, Nubia. Prosecutors there are seeking the death penalty against the couple, accused of torturing and abusing the siblings for years.

That case will follow the trial in Palm Beach County, where Jorge Barahona alone faces charges of attempted first-degree murder with a weapon and aggravated child abuse with a weapon, concerning Victor's scary brush with death.

Finally, a trial date, for attempted murder of Victor. What about the death of Nubia? Their daughter should also have been charged, she knew her parents abused those kids, and her own child reported the abuse to her Father.

It it should be a felony offence, for any adult, who sees child abuse, does not report it, and the child is found injured or dead.
 
Federal judge holds DCF in contempt for breaching gag order in Barahona case

MIAMI - A Miami federal judge has held the Florida Department of Children and Families in contempt for breaching a gag order in the case of South Florida twins Victor and Nubia Barahona.

In a 25-page order issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Patricia Seitz ruled that the DCF revealed to state legislative staffers a guardian ad litem report with details of a $5 million state settlement for Victor and the estate of his murdered sister Nubia, in violation of a court order that sealed the settlement terms.

"DCF's violation is a bell that cannot be unrung," Seitz wrote in the order. "It is also yet another systemic failure by DCF at (a) survivor's expense."

The ruling came as Florida lawmakers bring the 2016 session to a close without approving the payout for the bulk of the settlement. The Barahona claim bill and others were held up in the statehouse as lawmakers questioned the percentage allocated to lawyer's fees.

The death of Nubia Barahona and the torture of Victor Barahona, allegedly at the hands of Jorge Barahona and his wife, Carmen, involves a case that's been haunting South Florida for five years. There's still no date in sight for the murder trials.

"It is par for the course. Again, two defendants and you also have the additional case up in Palm Beach County that's going to go to trial first," explained Attorney David Weinstein.

Nothing has been reported in the media, but I hope this does not mean the state is no longer seeking the death penalty. If anyone deserves the DP, it's these two monsters.

They're both due back in court on 8/4 for a status hearing.

Another thing, in every report there is a sentence that the house was "clean and neat" and "posed no hazards". Give me a break!!! Since when does having a clean house constitute a "good parent"? That bothered me the more I read. EVERY REPORT - house appeared clean and neat. SO WHAT?

It has been bantered down here about bringing back orphanages - run by competent personnel. There was still be cracks.

Its all about the money - the funding stream.In large, mega urbanville areas DCF are overwhelmed. There isn't a day go by when I don't see an article in the local paper about a child (usually babies) that are in the hospital or have died.

It's no better trying to get help for the elderly in Fl. My sister had social services check on our mom because she was showing signs of dementia. A caseworker went over and commented on her lovely home and how well it was taken care of! Well, yeah, she has someone to do that for her! It has nothing to do with Vascular Dementia, which she was finally diagnosed with.

Don't these idiots know that you have to dig below the surface? I do animal rescue and, with no training at all, have managed to save several animals. And I usually don't waste time trying to do it the legal way, either. I'm pretty good at convincing people to let me give their animals a better life. Things like this can be accomplished, but it takes effort and cooperation.

I do think we should go back to orphanages. Update that idea; maybe call them Children's Homes. At least in that situation, there would be more eyes on what is going on. The kids won't feel as if they are inferior to a family's biological children. They wouldn't be moved around, so they can make this environment a home. Have the investigative social workers work out of those buildings, where they are in daily contact with the children they are trying to protect. Consolidate and rotate duties so no one gets burnt out.

Again, just coming up with a plan takes effort. So, let's get started!
 
I feel that "homeschooling" is a very nice way of concealing abuse. When Nubia's teachers reported abuse concerns, the "parents" just yanked her and her brother out of school, to abuse the kids at home with no problems.

Children who are homeschooled should at least have periodic assessment and testing, at the home environment. This can identify if the children are being abused, and provide baseline or oversight to the parents in regards to cirriculum planning.

So many children who are homeschooled are really just being abused.
