I have always thought that the Haleigh Cummings case and Somer Thompson could be linked -- by sexual offenders.

Putnam County is about 30 miles south of OP, and there is zero there. They (SO) would probably have to come up to OP where there is more work. Straight line up there; no turns to confuse anyone.

I have also heard that SO's LOVE to compare stories, and get together to share experiences.

I am really suspicious that a group of them made the 30-mile trek up Hwy 17 to work construction on a regular basis. Haleigh Cummings lived right off of Hwy 17 in Satsuma; Somer Thompson lived right off of Hwy 17 in Orange Park.

What do you think?

Sounds like the beginnings of a possible geo-profile there!

If the killer has a felony record, they can have difficulty finding regular employment, especially with any type of construction/contracting work if the employer requires them to be bonded (insured). Felons can't get bonded due to criminal record. But many felons seek out under the table work, or are hired on to do grunt work for contractors that might just need them on a temp basis, therefore no background check (here today - gone tomorrow type of thing). Sometimes, felons (as well as law-abiding citizens who are desperate for work) will congregate in the a.m. outside home improvement stores, waiting for contractors to swing by, hoping to get hired on for the day to pick up some quick cash. I've known of several contractors who hired temp day-laborers that way.

Maybe DT's actions are so different that LE is just focused on her and her buddies.

Maybe DT is (well, we can drop the "maybe") so excited by the spotlight, and the characters around her raise suspicion, that the real offenders are being overlooked.

When DT does this "interview" crap - it alerts LE, but maybe she's just liking it -- (I hate to say that) --

The fact that we are hearing NOTHING -- makes me think they are looking at the DT circus, but --

I just cant get over LE not searching wlk's last address on gano. All the circumstantial evidence we have that points to him is overwhelming imo.

that said.... again I think they must have a person they think did it and are waiting for more evidence... or

they have dna on wlk waiting for processing... but wouldnt they still search this place?

thots?

PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Somer Thompson Case Update

Our investigation into the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson is ongoing and remains a large scale, multi-agency effort. Agents from the FBI, FDLE, U.S. Marshal Service, and NCIS remain assigned to our team locally and continue to reinforce our investigative efforts with their expertise and manpower.

We have now received 4,200 leads and detective teams continue working to follow up on all remaining workable tips. We remain hopeful that evidence being processed now at the lab will provide more streamlined direction for our investigators and will help us focus more accurately on a suspect. The processing of such evidence is time-consuming, but is very important to the long-term success of this investigation and cannot be rushed.

"Waiting on lab results is part of this process," said Sheriff Rick Beseler. "The results can take weeks to return and cannot be rushed or hurried because this is information that will point us in the right direction and tell us where to go." Sheriff Beseler commented that, with a case like this, information is unfolding slowly. He describes the case as being far from "cold". "This case is not a cold case...not by far," Beseler said. "This case remains hot with emerging leads and many pieces of evidence. Our team is very active and will remain so for weeks to come", Beseler said.

Many members of the media have inquired about how the investigative team is holding up under the prolonged strain of this case combined with their regular workload. To a man, the personnel I spoke to this week said they are exhausted but very determined. "Determined" was by far the adjective that was used most often. But sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, literally. While in the Orange Park office last week, I spotted an opportunity to take a photo that I feel demonstrates this determination. Please see the attached photo and feel free to use it if you like. It is Det. Dwayne Singletary, phones to both ears, working on the case. There is a large printed poster on the wall with Somer's photo and a caption that reads, "Remember...this is who we are working for." These posters were created internally by the investigative team and are displayed in offices and hallways as a constant reminder.

Our agency is not planning any on-camera interviews or press briefings this week. As soon as there is a development in the case that we can release, you will be notified via media release.

(sorry if it's already been posted...)

snipped & bbm

Sounds like they're trying to piece together complicated items of evidence, and might be developing a scenario, but need more lab results and concrete evidence to tie it all together before they can name a suspect and forward their findings to the D.A.

Good evening... I talked with an old friend today who I haven't heard from in several months. She asked my thoughts on this case. She then told me a family member of her's (my friend that is) is a friend of DT. My friend's family member said Somer was covered in broken glass & construction material.

What is everybody doing? It's awful quiet.

Quick without thinking, post your top 3 suspect candidates (no full names please), let's see how it shakes out.

My top 3 are:
1-WLK
2-Kyle
3-some unidentified person we haven't sleuthed yet (no this isn't cryptic, I just think there's someone out there we don't know about yet)

1 - Someone known by the family (possibly up until now unidentified, or someone in the periphery, but already identified)
2 - Teenager(s) from the neighborhood with whom victim was familiar (first-time offender)
3 - Someone completely off the radar

That would explain the searching of the dumpster @ the Gano house... possibly the LE were trying to match up the glass & debris found on her @ the landfill. Since that was the last place she was seen. Maybe her body was temporarily placed in that dumpster until the killer could get a vehicle to transfer her body (along with debris from the Gano dumpster in an attempt to hide her body) & transfered her body to another one because the search for her was in & around the vicinity of the Gano Avenue area. Maybe the broken glass is why we were told to look for cuts, scratches, etc... KWIM?

Didn't the window's on gano get replaced recently? And there was a flier in the window iirc. I wonder if the flier is still there

If LE thought the glass may have come from the dumpster at Gano I would think they would have hauled the entire dumpster to the crime lab to sort thru it with a fine tooth comb. Maybe I've watched too much CSI.

I know... I was thinking the same thing.

This just seems too simple to me. If someone working on the house wanted to leave a calling card of themselves what better way than to wrap her body up with construction debris. This sounds like someone wanted LE to think it was related to the construction site and perhaps it wasn't. I keep going back to my scenario of someone watching Somer (from across the street at the park) coming from school over a period of time, perhaps stopping at the house to chat with the workers on other days and getting jealous of the workers. The perp could have tried to implicate the workers in the crime by putting some type of construction debris around her body...doesn't necessarily mean it came from THAT dumpster. JMO

Maybe the construction materials and glass helped them narrow down which dumpster she was put in.

That could have been in a previous dumpster and Somer was put in the next one so that she ended up on top of that stuff but was in another dumpster.

(that is hard to follow, I know ... blood sugar is low)
