Off topic, but a baby was apparently taken from a home (Ironsides, off Duclay) tonight near the Duval/Clay county line. The female abductor apparently posed as a DCF agent. Certainly, does not appear related to the Somer case, just more sad news for our area.

From someone looking on from the outside, I feel that if Rod B hadn't driven past there and been lucky enough to see the car there, I don't think much would have happened.

LE would not have known JH lived there and who knows when the child *advertiser censored* would have come to be looked at.

LE was lucky that Rod and the family did what they did, IMHO.

I wonder about that too but if they have his DNA on her then I think they would have got him as soon as they arrested him for the *advertiser censored* and got his DNA which is required by law there now.

Snipped "hiding in the ditch -- among the weeds -- that there might be evidence that narrowed down where she was. Hoping for rare plant growing only in X location."

You see the growth and this was after Oct. It would have been worse when she disappeared. I don't think she would hide in the ditch because of snakes and insects. It was hard enough for us to go into these areas searching and trying to ignore the fact snakes were out there with us. When you look at CAM's pics and see mine tomorrow you'll see what I mean it was very overgrown then.

If they would have arrested him. Would they have gone after him in Mississippi? Maybe. IDK.

I just hope that it is JH , although it sounds like they are quite certain.

I keep saying, if it's him, he's no criminal mastermind, so he must have left a lot of evidence.

Just issued an Amber Alert for child.!

This started at Shand's Hospital at 12:45 PM today. The parents took their three week old baby to Shand's Hospital for a check up and a woman followed them and made contact at the Hospital then followed them home and told parents they were being investigated and she was with DCF. She convinced the parents she had to take the baby. The baby is a black male infant. The woman was driving a black Nissen. She is a black female about 20-25 years old and has a nose ring. This is terrible!

I hope that some of your pictures show the neighbor's boat. That would be a quick and easy place to hide.

(hope link works ... might take a bit ... it's a street view shot)

ETA
She might have even been able to hide behind that bush!

The A marker is JH house, then the ditch and then the neighbor's house with the boat.

She was not a shy child. Very bold. She went into the fence of the renovated house at Gano and talked to some strangers.

JH could have been in the backyard and she walked up to him herself to talk to him , asking him where the dog was.

He might have seen that as an open invitation.

It's hard to believe that she was 7 and had so much freedom. Seven is really young.

Hard to get under a boat cover, but maybe hide behind the boat.

Now I'm confused Kimberly! Where is it that says Somer was in a physical fight and that mom Diena was called? She is in first grade - do they actually take children out of the class room for the day as punishment - call mom - and handle it like the child is an 8th grade bully? I've NEVER once read this is what happened and with all the little nuances about the walk home, I'm sure we would have heard that the school yanked her from the classroom for a fight and made her sit in an office waiting for mom. And the thought that the school can 'hit' children is outrageous! MOO MHO

BBM

I'm sure I am in the minority on this, but I think paddling should be allowed in schools. Our teachers and principals had the authority to paddle us in school, and I think if I had ever gotten a paddling in school, I would have gotten another one from my parents when I got home. Nobody ever once took a gun to school back then, or a knife, or disrupted the classroom or talked back to the teacher or hit a teacher like you hear of kids doing now-a-days. The teachers and principals were in charge, not the kids, and we knew it. Look how out of control kids are today at school. Kids are in charge of their parents and their teachers these days instead of the other way around. Kids do whatever they want to when they know there is no consequences worse than "time out" or taking away something they like for a little while. I am not advocating BEATING a child, but a few swats on the bottom does wonders when all else fails. JMO

By the way, I can truthfully say that I deserved every whipping my parents gave me. My mom and dad got married at 17 and 18, stayed married until death did them part (70 plus years) raised 6 children who all turned out to be upstanding, responsible citizens and not one of us has ever been in jail. They did SOMETHING right.

I agree! I wish I could have seen the back yard to see if there was a brake in the fence or a gate. There was a no trespassing sign and LE in area and I didn't want to get arrested! LOL! I did go into the yard as far as I could up to fence next to ditch to make pictures

Bumping this up.

I remember this vaguely but think he is a minor.

What a GREAT law (article from June 17, 2009):

TALLAHASSEE — Under a new law signed by Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday, the DNA of any person accused of a felony will be added to a state database.
Florida is the 20th state to require police to take a DNA sample, such as a mouth swab, of everyone charged with a felony. The state will hold on to that sample, even if the felony charge is dismissed. Previously, authorities could take a DNA sample only after conviction of a felony or specified misdemeanors.
"This is common sense and the right thing to do," Crist said at a bill signing ceremony at which he was accompanied by dozens of uniformed state troopers.

I remember reading somewhere that there is a dna backlog in the state of Florida. I hope the government gives them the money they need to fix this system

I bet there is, that is a very large increase in the DNA they take. I just wish they would not keep it if the person is found not guilty of a felony.
