I also thought that he was practically called a suspect now by Corey! Everyone seems to be under the impression that they have the right perp. in J.H., re her comment!
Otherwise maybe she should of kept her mouth shut!

Maybe reporters need to be more careful about what they say too, until they have more correct info. They can't just make stuff up i would hope, otherwise they could be looking at legal consequences perhaps, as far as slander?

I don't know ... but the search at the Gano house was all day and into the night ... and what they found in the morning was enough for them to name him POI so there was some connection to Somer early on.

I'll watch some of the videos again with the thought in mind that I'm looking and listening for references to dogs. I watched a LE type raking an area and then moving to another ... but nothing ... reminded me of the "search" of the dumpster.

I am surprised they never brough cadaver dogs into this case anyway, initially by L.E. Unless they did?

Angel,
the first dogs they brought in were tracking dogs. They found her body so early on in the case they did not need cadaver dogs at that point. I applaud LE for their early search of the trash. It is unprecedented and should be part of normal SOP nationwide for missing children.

However, what you said also makes me think in tangents: why, 3 days in to the case, did they feel she was "dead" and possibly disposed of via the trash? In my mind I think it was due to that one persistant detective that suggested the trash truck following. They just followed their gut. As an open heart nurse I have learned to follow my 'gut' and it pays off most of the time.

Bottom line imhoo: I think that the 'gut service' in this case will go a mile if not a hundred miles. Maybe even a thousand.

Maybe cadaver dogs weren't necessary seeing as L.E. found her body so quickly? They seemed to know exactly where to look. Wasn't it just 2 days later they found her? Pretty sharp thinking on their part. The search dogs didn't do much good with locating her, or even perhaps where she had last been, as recently discussed.

I thought the search didn't start until the afternoon. IIRC, the news was making a point of saying they pulled up to start the search around the time kids were walking home from school.

Huh? I thought the alert wasn't put out about Somer being missing for a few hours after she went missing. Her family members were looking for her prior to L.E. arriving at the scene? This would of been well and truly after the kids all got home on the day.

It was two days in if you are talking about Bruce Owens being the one who gets credit for following the trash trucks.

We were referring to the search of the JH Gano house.

The article I quoted said the JH Gano house was searched the morning of Feb. 11 ... and evidence found led to JH being named POI.

In the video, I see kids walking home and the crossing guard. But I don't know when the search of JH house began. In another video, it was reported that the search started in the morning and went on all day and into the night.

I was on another computer when I saw that ... will try to find. UNABLE TO FIND

Here is one in which Sheriff talks, naming JH a POI

Arrested Jarred in the morning and search conducted at Gano house on Thursday morning yielded evidence
Harrell was arrested by U.S. Marshals Thursday morning in Meridian, Mississippi, where he faces 29 counts of possession of child pornorgraphy [sic].

...

A search conducted on Thursday morning at 1152 Gano Avenue in Orange Park, where Harrell formerly resided, has already yielded evidence which led authorities to name him as a person of interest in the case. Harrell is being held on a $1 million bond.

yes, or course I am talking about him. Thank you for the reminder on his name. I have followed this case diligently from the start and also am blessed with a semi~photographic memory.

I continue to believe that their early actions were priceless in this case in terms of forensics. If her body had sat out there buried for another week.. even just another SECOND... who knows what evidence may have degraded/been comprimised.

Nurse, there were two others given the credit for searching the trash: Joe Jett (this was during a press conference I think; have no source other than Websleuths discussion) and FBI agent.

And this detective, Frousseau (ph), I got his name, was, and he`s part of the task force with the FBI and the other counties, but he`s the one that said, "Hey, I`m going to go and follow the truck to their pickups. And I`m going to look at every one that they pick up first before it gets and put in that whole pile. And that`s why that, at least, we`ve been able to find this little girl`s body, Jane.

thanks Noway! In the end it is all good and the praise remains the same in my opinion. Searching the trash early found Somer and hopefully preserved valuable forensics.

And did I say THANK YOU NOWAY? If not I am remiss. You are the glue that holds all the pieces together. Bless you for it!

This video is hard to hear, but it talks about the search at 1152 going into the night (10 p.m. newscast) and that LE said they would be there as long as it took

I think the truth should not be that hard for LE either.

If it was Bruce Owens then no matter who tells the story, it should be Bruce Owens.

If it was Joe Jett, then no matter who tells the story, it should be Joe Jett. Same with the FBI agent.

Either the reporting was awful in that regard or they didn't really want the public to know who thought of it, when they thought of it and what the result was ...

Isn't it also standard C.A.R.T. procedure & they all took the course about 3 weeks before Somer disappeared or I maybe I imagined this? Anyway, my point is this someone remembered the "proper procedure".

ETA - Following the individuals trucks I believe was outside of the normal course IIRC, not segregating & checking. Regardless great job!
