I hate to bring this up again, but one night very early into the investigation there had been speculation or a psychic had claimed that the cod was blunt force trauma and they felt a hammer had been used. One night some creep posted the most horrific photo on here of what looked like a child with their face bashed in. The photo was deleted and the user , I assume , was banned , but I really hope this was turned in just in case it was connected. I know it was most likely just a very sick person pulling stuff off the internet just to freak people out but it has been months and I still can't shake that horrible image.

I remember that, kmart, and IIRC, the person who did it was a known harrasser.

JMO and MOO - I think what is making these pervs is our "Anything Goes" society. These kinds of people do not have an illness that makes them want to murder. They KNOW it is wrong and they have control over it - they just do it anyway. If they didn't know better, they would not try to keep from getting caught.

IMO it is not TV, movies, video games, the internet, or any other thing that causes this widespread depravity. It's the person. Unless a person is mentally retarded or insane, they know right from wrong and they choose which way to go. They choose to do the right thing or the wrong thing. There is nothing "wrong" in this day and age. The blame is almost always put on someone other than the one responsible.

It seems that 9 out of 10 kids that I've seen in the last few years are out of control at a very early age. Kids are the boss of their parents, not the other way around. "Time Outs" or "taking away somethings the child loves" is the worst thing that is going to happen to an unruly child these days, because a good old fashioned spanking is considered child abuse and only teaches them to hit, according to the experts.

By the time these unruly kids get to be teenagers, most of them have no respect for anything including human life. They set others on fire, they beat each other into a coma, they post these beatings on YouTube like they are proud of what they did. They think it is funny. Twelve year old girls have 17 year old boyfriends. The list is endless.

We are just now seeing the children/adults that were raised with no consequences (sp?) to their actions since it has been believed that a quick swat on the hind end is child abuse.

I know crime has been around since the beginning of time, but these punk teens and young adults that were never controlled by their parents are reaking havoc on the world today. They have no respect for authority of any kind.

My child respects authority, because my husband and I demand it.
I'm not saying she will never do anything wrong, but she knows if she does, it is on her own accord and we will not be sweeping it under the rug or kissing it and making it all better.
She will have to face it.

We found out something really important about JH - he has a temper. A temper so bad that he became jobless over it. His boss and former co-workers said that he 'lost it' and couldn't handle things. moo

My thinking is that little Somer was abruptly yanked and she fought like h*** triggering impulsive, narcissistic, and temper prone JH into a rage. What was done to beautiful Somer was far beyond 'silencing' her to keep quiet - it was brutal - a complete loss of control on the part of JH. moo

Seems it would take a little girl like Somer to bring this sicko to justice - she was no pushover. She may have loved animals and had a tender side to her, but Somer had boundaries about who was going to touch her - and he wasn't going to be one of them if she could help it. moo

Asphyxiation WITH blunt force injuries, sexual battery penile penetration - I can barely stand to think of what Somer went through. There would almost certainly have been blood evidence at the crime scene. I wonder if he even bothered to try to clean it up while he was living there for 6 more weeks after she was brutally murdered. Maybe Somer got in at least one good kick to his nose and they have his blood mixed with hers.

I thought from the very start when they recommended no viewing of the body that this was a rage killing and I posted about that, but I was wrong about my suspect. I first thought it was a juvenile or a group of juveniles. "With blunt force injuries" likely means she was beaten in the face and/ or head so badly they had to use dental records to make a positive ID, and the injuries could not be fixed so that viewing of the body would be allowed, just as I thought in the beginning. It probably was not to conceal COD from the killer. I just knew it had to have been something horrible when the sheriff said it was a "heinous" crime and ruled it a homicide immediately upon uncovering the body.

I hope they will start releasing the evidence soon now. I want to read the admissions JH made and exactly what they are. I do not understand if he confessed to a murder, why he would plead not guilty to the *advertiser censored* charges. Is the arraignment where he pleads set for April 8th? It cannot be an accidental death committed while trying to commit rape, not with the blunt force injuries. I'm glad they added the kidnapping charge, but they should have also added the charge of improper disposal of the body. Do you think the reason they didn't might be because they think someone else disposed of the body for him?

It is just too sad to even bear mentioning. How could anyone be so cruel to inflict something like this on anyone, let alone a defenseless little child. I have often questioned if there is a God, why and how can these things happen!

God forgive me for saying this, but I cannot understand how these things happen to little kids. How can God let this happen?

The #######s don't show any remorse after they harm kids (remember John Cuoey?), they appear sorry and remorseful only AFTER they get caught... which makes you wonder if they are sorry that they harmed kids, or they are sorry because they got caught.

IF they stopped at the first victim, one may think that they made a mistake. But, for most of them it's a lifetime of child *advertiser censored*, molestation, or more... until they get caught. The saddest part of it all is that some of them don't ever get caught.

I know our laws can do so much, and responsible parents can do so much, to protect our children. But, there's has got to be a way to protect the children, and to keep the potential criminals in check.

I need to know what is making all of these pervs. Then we need to stop it. Whatever it is.

It could be that there are more resources to report child molestation now, by schools, doctors, etc... more cases are found that way.

But, the rash of child *advertiser censored* I think it has to do more with the internet than anything else.

In years past any graphics had to be on paper form, and it was hard for the wackos to get together and form networks of pornographers.

Nowadays one only has to sign in online, and the trash is found by a 10 second search and a click of a button.

I'm glad search engines have cleaned their sites, it used to be bad in the early 2000s, but the problem still persists.

I've been awfully upset, as I know many others here are, finding out more details of how Somer was murdered. The worst part is the thought of the fear and the pain these precious children suffered.

There is one thing in this case that I am grateful to know, and that is from the sheriff when he said that they don't think Somer was there long. That tells me that her suffering at least was not prolonged.

There is one other thing that I am grateful to know in all these cases, and that is, that the human mind, when faced with what it can not deal with, shuts down. The person may be conscious, but have no awareness of what is going on. I hope and pray that Somer's mind shut down for her at some point, ending her terror and pain.

Harrell could face death penalty in Somer's murder

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Twenty-four-year-old Jarred Harrell will be arraigned on Thursday, April 8 on murder, kidnapping, sexual battery and lewd and lascivious battery of a child in the abduction and slaying of 7-year-old Somer Thompson last October.

A Clay County grand jury returned a four-count indictment late Thursday afternoon, April 1.

State Attorney Angela B. Corey has said she will see the death penalty in the case, which drew national attention within hours after the second-grader disappeared on her way home from Grove Park Elementary School in Orange Park on Oct. 19.

Somer disappeared while walking home from Grove Park Elementary School. School district spokeswoman Darlene Mahla said district officials are pleased with the work that led to the charges.

June: Estimated Date. Jarred Harrell is asked to move out of his parents' house. They want him to be on his own, be a man, and take care of himself. They call Rod Buchanan's stepdaughter and ask if he can move in with them and be a roommate; they say sure. Jarred moves in with Buchanan's stepdaughter and her fiancé. (Explanation is that Buchanan states, in response to how long did JH live with your stepdaughter, and says a couple of months, so JustyThoughts estimated at June 2009). August 4: Roommates kick Jarred Harrell out for stealing, specifically their iPod. Source According to Rod Buchanan, he asks if they can keep his computer until he finds somewhere to go. Source (Note: Any idea where he went? Back to mom? Sister's? Thoughts, anyone?)

August 10: They do not hear from him, and the discussion comes up about there having been child *advertiser censored* found on his computer about a year ago by Rod Buchanan's stepson (a minor at the time). They stop a CCSO deputy, explain their concerns and he brings them to the lead detective, who has the deputy go back and run the tags; it is Jarred Harrel's vehicle, and he has been living there. I think it is one charge, but two references. The same is true on the sexual batter and lewd and lascivious charges ...

I hope a legal eagle will explain it.

That is my understanding. I am not sure the official charges have been filed yet that he will be tried on.
